It’ll be a game-filled summer for NBC, but a busy Olympics schedule won’t leave room for two of the Peacock’s reality series: LA Fire and Rescue and Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge have both been cancelled, our sister site Deadline reported Monday.
LA Fire and Rescue gave viewers unprecedented access to the inner workings of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Premiering in May of last year, “the series documents real calls and real drama while giving faces to the passionate firefighters who risk their lives in the name of service,” reads its official description. “These real-life heroes...

Two weeks ago, it was announced that Wyrmwood Road of the Dead and Wyrmwood: Apocalypse director Kiah Roache-Turner is gearing up to make a World War II-set shark thriller called Beast of War. Roache-Turner is reuniting with Cornerstone, the company that’s handling worldwide sales and distribution for his spider-themed horror film Sting, on this new project, and Cornerstone is currently presenting Beast of War to potential buyers at the upcoming American Film Market. While the market is going on, Roache-Turner took a moment to talk to The Hollywood Reporter about the “unashamedly fun” shark film he’s gearing up to make.

Exclusive: Fox is set to adapt Dutch physical quiz show The Floor.
The network has acquired the U.S. rights to the show, which comes from The Voice and Big Brother creator John De Mol and Eureka Productions, the company behind ABC’s Holey Moley.
The deal is a rare bright spot for the unscripted TV community, which has seen a lack of major purchases during the past six months. Fox, along with CBS, whose CEO George Cheeks told Deadline that it is working on four or five unscripted series as part of its writers strike contingencies, now are bucking this trend, a boon for reality producers.

It’s all fun and games until the Emmys start handing out awards. Then the real competition begins.
This year, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards will present its first statue for outstanding game show. Previously, game shows were honored during the Daytime Emmys, where “Jeopardy” has claimed 11 of the last 20 years of awards.
But in 2021, the New York-based National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which handles the Daytime Emmys, and the L.A.-based Television Academy, which handles the Primetime Emmys, decided to bring game shows into the primetime heat.
It’s not a shock considering a slew of rebooted classic games and wild new competitions have led to a resurgence in the genre. Coupled with the seemingly endless search for a new “Jeopardy” host that consumed the nation, game shows are all the rage again.

It's an age-old question; what happens to all of the cool props and production pieces made during a movie? In some instances, the pieces are preserved in museums or in safekeeping by the studios, but in special cases, the items go home with the cast and crew. Henry Winkler famously kept some of his Fonzie jackets from "Happy Days," to later auction them off to support charity. "Some Kind of Wonderful" director Howard Deutch later married Lea Thompson, who starred in the film, and the couple kept one of the portraits made of her character to hang in their home. And now, "Infinity Pool" star Alexander Skarsgård is the proud owner of his own cloned head.
Directed by Brandon Cronenberg, "Infinity Pool" is a sci-fi horror film about a couple on vacation in a remote land with a zero-tolerance policy on crime who find themselves involved in a tragic accident.

Given the records Stranger Things has already set since the premiere of its fourth season, one more isn’t that much of a surprise. But the new mark the Netflix series hit is a big one.
Stranger Things amassed 7.2 billion minutes of viewing time for the week of May 30-June 5, according to Nielsen — the highest weekly total for any streaming title since the advent of weekly rankings almost two years ago. It also has the biggest two-week tally for any streaming show: In the week of May 23-29, when season four of Stranger Things premiered, it had 5.14 billion minutes of viewing for a two-week total of 12.34 billion minutes.
Previously, no streaming show measured by Nielsen had ever reached 6 billion minutes in a single week, let alone 7 billion. Only Tiger King (twice) and Ozark in the spring of 2020 — amid pandemic lockdowns — had topped 5 billion minutes prior to Stranger Things.

It’s crazy to think that this time last year we were going through one of the toughest periods of time in human history! We spent just under two years being forced to stay at home and being told that it was actually illegal to see more than one other household. Nightclubs, cinemas, restaurants etc., were closed down which meant that, as a society, we turned to the TV to provide the required entertainment to see people through this very difficult time. We saw an obsession with Netflix that was unlike anything we have ever seen before. People were looking for a sense of escapism from the terrible events that were occurring around the world and so turned to fictional worlds to help them cope. The almost cult-like following of shows such as Tiger King brought with it a chaotic and eccentric world that was a fantastic distraction from everything...

Fresh off the first-ever Netflix is a Joke comedy festival, the streamer confirmed which performances will be available to view in the coming weeks, including tributes to late comedians such as Bob Saget and Robin Williams and the yet-to-be-announced date for Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias’s groundbreaking set at Dodger Stadium.
Featuring a wide range of events and stars, the festival also made headlines for some of its comedians’ jokes, such as Pete Davidson’s digs at Kanye West. But the biggest news of the fest was when Dave Chappelle was tackled on stage during his set at the Hollywood Bowl, with the attacker being charged with four misdemeanor counts. For its part, Netflix responded by saying, “We care deeply about the safety of creators and we strongly defend the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence.” Chappelle’s four sold-out shows are not included in...

Are you ready for more Floor Is Lava? Netflix dropped the first Floor Is Lava Season 2 trailer on Monday, May 9 ahead of the competition series’ return on June 3. In Floor Is Lava Season 2, teams will traverse various obstacle courses trying their best to avoid the “lava” below. And Netflix promises there are “bigger obstacles, higher stakes, and even hotter lava,” in the new episodes, plus an all-new feature — a huge and very slippery volcano. That volcano will have to be conquered in order to win, and by the looks of the trailer, that’s going to be a pretty impossible task. Floor Is Lava Season 2 will consist of five 30-minute episodes, all of which will be available for streaming on Netflix on Friday, June 3. Check out the Floor Is Lava Season 2 trailer, below. Some highlights from the trailer: One confident player says the only thing hitting that lava will be her sweat.

The stakes promise to be “hotter than ever” in Season 2 of Floor Is Lava, Netflix’s competition series that marries Wipeout with… well, bubbling hot, skin-melting lava (or a gooey, relatively harmless facsimile thereof).
Netflix has released a first trailer for Floor Is Lava‘s sophomore run (embedded above), and it teases “bigger obstacles, higher stakes, and even hotter lava” — as well as the brand-new element of a slippery Af volcano that players must ascend (or not, as the trailer suggests happens more often).

Exclusive: American Gladiators, the classic competition series that originally premiered in 1989, is taking another shot at the obstacle course.
Deadline understands that MGM has teamed with WWE for a reimagined version of the non-scripted series that will feature a slew of WWE wrestling superstars.
Mark Burnett and his team are currently pitching the rebooted series, which is based on the format created by Johnny Ferraro and Dan Carr, to broadcasters and platforms.
It seems like good timing for the Hollywood studio and Vince McMahon’s wrestling federation given the success of physical competition series in the non-scripted space from American Ninja Warrior to Floor Is Lava and Holey Moley, as well as the growing focus on WWE with Netflix’s interactive film Escape the Undertaker and a documentary series about McMahon from Bill Simmons as well as Blumhouse TV scripted series The United States of America Vs. Netflix has picked up a second season of the game show “Floor Is Lava,” TheWrap has confirmed.
The 10-episode game show debuted in June 2020 and challenged teams to navigate rooms “flooded with lava by leaping from chairs, hanging from curtains and swinging from chandeliers,” according to Netflix’s description. “Yes, really.”

Floor Is Lava is returning to Netflix for a second season.
As expected, the streamer has renewed the non-scripted series, which debuted in June 2020.
The series, which is hosted by Rutledge Wood, sees teams compete to navigate rooms flooded with lava by leaping from chairs, hanging from curtains and swinging from chandeliers.
It is produced by American Ninja Warrior producer A. Smith & Co and Haymaker Media. Irad Eyal and Megan McGrath exec produce alongside showrunner Anthony Carbone, Arthur Smith, Frank Sinton, Caroline Baumgard, and Anthony Storm.
As with other non-scripted series, Netflix has gone to unusual lengths to keep its renewals secret with A. Smith & Co. putting out a casting call under the title Get Across The Room to find new contestants.
It did the same thing for Too Hot To Handle, which Deadline revealed had received a two season pick up. Variety broke the renewal news.

On tonight's episode of The Bachelorette, Tayshia invited Ivan on a one-on-one that turned into the best, most real date we have ever seen on this entire franchise. As Variety reported late last year before it was officially announced, the show was filmed at the Pinewood studio complex near London. “Sing On!” is the English-language version of a format created by the U.K. company Hello Dolly — versions of the show from Spain and Germany are already on Netflix.
