This is a silly movie that is so big you are amazed it's an indie film.
This is a movie for people that love the macho aspects of life and cinema: cars, romance, gambling and snappy jokes.
The movie has about fifty characters and lots of plot-lines so it feels long and short at the same time, I would much rather have seen it as a miniseries or some other kind of structure because each of the characters have their own potential.
By the end of the movie I was so immersed in the world and used to the pace I was ready for more. It has a binge-able feel of the first few episodes of a TV show on netflix.
There's really just a lot going on in the movie and I appreciate that especially vs some other ponderous indie films with their inverted gaze, pretentious use of fancy lenses and melodrama. This movie hits hard and fast and it looks fine, it's well shot but it has a totally different pace and tone than some self important indie film.
79 Parts is a fun movie made in a spirit that hearkens back to movies from the 80's. It has some real laughs and there's nothing about the movie that is lazy or cheap. I gave it an extra star because it was made for basically zero dollars.
