Update: Five defendants have been charged concerning the ketamine-related death of Matthew Perry. The five individuals include a live-in assistant, two doctors, and a woman known as the “Ketamine Queen.” According to U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, the five are associated with a “broad underground criminal network” that provided Perry and others with ketamine. Estrada says the group “took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves.”
The individuals charged include Jasveen Sangha, 41, a.k.a. “The Ketamine Queen,” of North Hollywood; Dr. Salvador Plasencia, 42, a.k.a. “Dr. P,” of Santa Monica; and Eric Fleming, 54, of Hawthorne. On August 8, Fleming pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine and one count of distribution of ketamine, resulting in death, admitting to distributing the ketamine that killed Perry.
Other defendants arrested include Kenneth Iwamasa, 59, of Toluca Lake, Perry’s live-in assistant, who allegedly conspired with Sangha, Fleming,...

Tommy Wirkola’s shark film has a flashy new title and a release date. More on Beneath The Storm below.
We first heard of Tommy Wirkola’s shark film last May when we reported that Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor was in talks to join the then-untitled film.
That film now has a title: Beneath The Storm. Deadline also reports that the film is heading to US cinemas on 1st August next year, courtesy of Sony Pictures. There’s no word on a UK release but we’re sure it’ll show up on a release schedule eventually.
In May, the plot details were kept under wraps and unfortunately that hasn’t changed. All we know is that the film is directed by Wirkola, stars Dynevor and it’ll have sharks. It’s not much to go on, but fans of films like Deep Blue Sea and The Shallows have plenty to get excited about here.

In February, ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods pointed a finger at the public for failing to solve the climate crisis — suggesting that consumers were to blame for the toxic carbon emissions produced by the oil giant.
“The dirty secret nobody talks about is how much all this is going to cost and who’s willing to pay for it,” he declared during an interview with Fortune. “The people who are generating those emissions need to be aware of and pay the price for generating those emissions. That is ultimately how you solve the problem.

Most space-related films tend to be serious dramas. There are very few films that present a story set in the stars in the world beyond our planet in a satirical and humorous manner. Don’t Look Up was an apocalyptic comedy-drama, while Netflix’s Space Force tried to produce another satirical comedy, but the show fell flat. Space Cadet is the story of a young woman who had yearned to head to space since childhood but could not do so because of unforeseen circumstances she faced growing up.

[This story contains spoilers for the Netflix movie Under Paris.]
Slicing Paris in half, the river Seine flows through the heart of French identity, past the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Académie Française, the centuries-old institution of letters that guards against the bastardization of the French language, leading a valiant resistance to American cultural expansion. In these sacrosanct waters and adjoining catacombs, Under Paris director and co-writer Xavier Gens has let loose a monster shark, a mutated, self-replicating, mostly CGI descendant of Jaws, that ultimate symbol of the statesidesummer blockbuster. Quelle horreur! But to hear the Gallic helmer tell it, the Netflix film is far from a capitulation to Hollywood but in fact a sly act of cinematic subversion.
A veteran of U.S. films like 2007’s Hitman, Gens appropriated genre conventions only to undercut them with a twist of French nihilism. As the predator turns a swimming event into an...

While Hollywood movies like Don’t Look Up and The Day After Tomorrow have used climate change as the inspiration for some high-stakes storytelling, Hillary Clinton would like the entertainment industry to start thinking smaller. A lot smaller. Like, infant or preschooler small. Through the Clinton Foundation’s Too Small to Fail program, an early childhood initiative founded in 2014, the former secretary of state is now encouraging Hollywood writers and producers to embed ideas about young children and climate change in their films and TV shows.
“There’s now research on this topic, but most people are not aware at all,” Clinton says, of the idea that young children are especially vulnerable to extreme heat, stronger storms and wildfires. “Our hope is that we can help people make the connections between children’s mental and physical health and the impact of climate change.” Too Small to Fail already has some experience...

A defining scene in Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s startling movie Evil Does Not Exist shows an adversarial meeting between the residents of an idyllic Japanese village and the representatives of an opportunistic Tokyo-based company. The two groups have gathered to discuss plans for the construction of a luxury camping site. To build goodwill for the project, the representatives, a pair of meek city dwellers, deploy banal commercialese to make their case. They use phrases like “optimize” and “invigorate” to describe what the site might bring to the area. They insist it will be “mutually beneficial.”
But these benefits, if they are even to be taken seriously, are one-sided. Life in this pastoral community depends on finely tuned interactions between humans and the environment. Throughout Evil Does Not Exist, Hamaguchi offers elegant glimpses of daily routines as evidence of this carefully navigated relationship. We see Takumi, a central character played with haunting ambiguity by Hitoshi Omika,...

Rolling Stone has published an interesting piece on how The Boys was brought to the screen, revealing that it wasn't always going to be a Prime Video TV series.
As the report explains, when Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg picked up the first issue of the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson in 2006, they were immediately taken by it. "We were like, 'Holy shit, this is f*cking crazy,'" Rogen recalled. "And that week we went to Sony and we’re like, 'You guys should make this.'"
"And they were like, 'We should...with someone else,'" adds Goldberg.
While Sony did acquire the rights, a possible adaptation went through several iterations before coming back around to Rogen, Goldberg, and The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke. Anchorman and Don't Look Up helmer Adam McKay reportedly set out to make a movie trilogy, with the first instalment getting far...

It’s a whodunit with a whole lot of drama. Jennifer Lawrence will get to feud, day-drink and access oodles of disposable income, at least until a body turns up, in “The Wives,” a murder mystery that is in the vein of “The Real Housewives.”

French shark movie “Under Paris” made a sneak underwater attack on worldwide streaming last week, scoring the best launch for a non-English language film on Netflix with 41 million views in its five first days on the service.
Dropping a month before the start of the summer Olympics in Paris, the movie about triathlon athletes who get devoured during a swimming race in the Seine river ranked first on Netflix’s top 10 for non-English language films across 93 countries. “Under Paris” was even praised by horror master Stephen King, who admitted he initially thought it “would be a jokey movie, like ‘Sharknado'” and found it it “really quite good.” “The last 25 minutes were amazing,” King said on X.

Plot details are being kept in the cage but it is said to revolve around a community that has to deal with shark attacks during a hurricane.
Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, who count Don’t Look Up and The Big Short, amongst their output, are producing the project via their HyperObject Industries.
On the Gossip Girl reboots, the Ugandan-born, Canadian-raised Peak played Zoya Lott, the newcomer to the machinations of the chi-chi Manhattan school at where a lot of the stories were set. She also starred opposite Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimi in Hocus Pocus 2,...

It’s been almost ten years since The Hunger Games’ last installment hit the cinemas, but nobody from the main cast has been left in the shadows ever since.
Though Suzanne Collins’ widely famous franchise is expanding its universe and has recently got a brand new ramification titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the original movies are still a frequent binge-watch choice for many fans craving some nostalgia from the past years.
Back in the day, The Hunger Games was a huge success garnering more than $3 billion in total, and it definitely came as a big moment of fame for the franchise’s leading actors whose careers later on skyrocketed for good.
Years after the movie trilogy came to its end, all of them are still doing pretty good.

Henry Kissinger may have only died in November, but the controversial politician is already set to get the satirical comedy treatment.
Tim Roth, Robin Wright, Mary-Louise Parker, Lucy Hale, David Cross, Jimmy O. Yang, Rob Corddry and Dylan Penn are in talks to star in the feature film “Kissinger Takes Paris,” set during Kissinger’s younger, pre-Vietnam War years.
Roth (“The Hateful Eight,” “Sundown”) will star as Kissinger, while Jeff Stanzler will direct from his screenplay, and Claude Dal Farra and Brian Keady of Bcdf Pictures (“To Leslie”) are producing along with Stanzler. CAA Media Finance and Concourse Media are co-representing domestic rights, and Concourse is handling international rights, with sales launching at Cannes.
The film — likened to political satires such as “Don’t Look Up” and “Wag the Dog” — is set to tell the (mostly) true story of when Kissinger, described as “a middle-aged, politically washed-up Harvard professor,” traveled to...

Phoebe Dynevor, star of TV’s Bridgerton, is in talks to star in Violent Night director Tommy Wirkola’s mysterious, untitled shark thriller.
Tommy Wirkola, director of festive action film Violent Night, is currently working on a thriller that involves sharks in some form, and said thriller could end up starring Phoebe Dynevor, previously of Bridgerton and Fair Play fame.
Dynevor is ‘in talks’ to star in Wirkola’s shark-based project according to Deadline, while further details are thinner on the ground than actual sharks. There’s no title to speak of and its plot is said to be “under wraps”; the concrete bit of information is that it’ll be produced by Hyperobject Industries, the production company founded by Adam McKay. It’s previously brought us such entertainments as Succession, The Menu and Don’t Look Up, the latter directed by McKay himself.

This interview contains major spoilers for Don’t Look Up.
What would the end of the world actually look like? This question has weighed on Dr. Amy Mainzer for more than two years now, ever since she was first approached by writer and director Adam McKay to act as science consultant on his new film, .
The dark comedy stars Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as two scientists who discover a comet on a collision-course with Earth, kickstarting a countdown to the apocalypse. Seems like something we should all take seriously, no? But as astronomy Ph.D. candidate Kate Dibiasky (Lawrence) and her advisor Dr. Randall Mindy (DiCaprio) soon find out, reconciling facts with public perception in a culture wracked with divisions isn’t quite as simple as looking up toward the sky.

Few would argue against the idea that Cate Blanchett is one of the great actresses of her generation. The sheer versatility she has displayed in her performances on film has especially made her one of the world’s most sought-after screen stars over the past three decades. For 2022, she received her eighth career Oscar nomination for “Tar.”
In 2021, in the span of just a few weeks, she displayed her signature multi-talent: For Adam McKay’s “Don’t Look Up,” Blanchett turned herself into a cable news host in the vein of Megyn Kelly or Mika Brzezinski to score major laughs in the biting comedy; for Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley,” Blanchett transformed into a 1940s femme fatale who gets one over on an overconfident con man (Bradley Cooper).
Blanchett has two Academy Awards wins for “The Aviator” (2004) and “Blue Jasmine” (2013), prevailing as a supporting actress the first time and then as a lead.

Paul Schrader has spoken with Kevin Spacey about the actor starring in a Frank Sinatra biopic, despite multiple allegations still flanking the actor. Spacey is facing a civil trial in the U.K. in 2025 over allegations for which he was acquitted there in a criminal court last year. A new U.K. docuseries airing on Channel 4 also features claims of sexual offenses by the actor from 10 men.
Writer/director Schrader told Variety that he has been in contact with Spacey about him portraying an elderly Sinatra for a film.
“Cancel culture won’t let him go,” Schrader said of Spacey, citing that the actor was acquitted of sexually assaulting four men in 2023. “He’s reading a book on how Charlie Chaplin was canceled.”
Schrader added of the potential biopic, “I would not use Kevin if he had been convicted. But he was not convicted.”

Leonardo DiCaprio’s career credits proved a long time ago that the actor is always down for challenging acting roles, however physically difficult they may be.
Starting from Titanic’s freezing waters and ending with an almost authentic survival period during filming The Revenant, also complemented by the actor’s real-life accidents like the exploded wing of his plane to Russia or a miraculous escape from a shark in South Africa — it seems like Leonardo DiCaprio is prepared for any unexpected twist of his life or career.
Though at some point the actor indeed felt like life had been training him for one particular situation when it came to rescuing his beloved dogs.
In one of his interviews while promoting his 2021’s black comedy film Don’t Look Up DiCaprio alongside colleagues Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill and director Adam McKay revealed that the skills that he had acquired during years and...

Last month, non-profit group Good Energy launched what it called a Bechdel Test for Climate Change, a simple set of criteria designed to determine if it was clear climate change was present in a film. The real Allison Bechdel even endorsed it.
As part of the “Climate Reality Check,” just three movies nominated for Oscars this year passed the test’s two simple rules: “Climate change exists” and “a character knows it.” Now a more extensive study published by Good Energy and Colby College’s Buck Lab for Climate and Environment has analyzed 250 of the top grossing movies between 2013 and 2022 under the same criteria.
Global warming has been with us for a while now, but only 12.8 percent — 32 of the 250 films studied in that time span — even passed the first criteria saying that climate change exists. Only 24 films, or 9.6 percent, passed both criteria of the test.

Martin Scorsese’s long-suffering biopic about Frank Sinatra has yet to go through some more circles of hell for the definite approval by the legendary singer’s family, but the chances that the movie is happening after all are quite high — at least the director is determined to bring the project to life.
The film already has an impressive duo of Hollywood’ favorites in the leading roles, but this is exactly the reason why Scorsese’s epic movie has all risks to give some really weird vibe after the 2021’s box office hit.
The production is still far from being started, but Scorsese was quick to find his seemingly perfect duo — Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are already confirmed to portray Frank Sinatra and his wife Ava Gardner respectively.

When A Drunk Jennifer lawrence Puked At Madonna’s Party & Got A reaction From Miley Cyrus. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Jennifer Lawrence has quite a few fun stories in her collection, and in one of them, she did something gross at the Oscars after the party of the legendary music artist Madonna. But the cherry on the cake was that it allegedly happened in front of Miley Cyrus. Needless to say, there is a controversy between Miley and Jennifer surrounding the former’s ex Liam Hemsworth.
Lawrence once implied that she and Hemsworth had locked lips with behind the scenes. People soon started speculating that their kiss coincided with Liam’s on-again-off-again relationship with Miley, making them believe he might have cheated on the Flowers songstress. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have worked on different projects a staggering six times and the director reportedly hopes to extend that number.
And not just with Leonardo DiCaprio, he means to also bring back Jennifer Lawrence for another round of adventures, but this time, there’ll be a lot of singing.

Martin Scorsese fans might have experienced a bit of deja vu after Variety exclusively reported that a Frank Sinatra biopic is one of two films the Oscar-winning director is planning to shoot back to back. The other is a movie about Jesus, the director’s second after 1988’s “The Last Temptation of Christ.” But it’s the Sinatra biopic that has long been a white whale of sorts for Scorsese.
Per Variety’s report, Scorsese’s Sinatra movie is eyeing his longtime muse Leonardo DiCaprio to star as the crooner — and the actor’s “Don’t Look Up” co-star Jennifer Lawrence to play his second wife, the famous Hollywood actress Ava Gardner (who factored into Scorsese’s “The Aviator” and was played by Kate Beckinsale). Sony is reportedly the frontrunner to nab the project, which Scorsese once tried and failed to get off the ground several years ago.

Martin Scorsese is ol’ blue-eyeing a big new project.
Variety reports that Scorsese is developing a Frank Sinatra biopic that will star Leonardo DiCaprio as the legendary crooner and Jennifer Lawrence as movie star Ava Gardner, Sinatra’s second wife. It would be the Oscar-winning director’s seventh film with DiCaprio and a reunion for DiCaprio and Lawrence, who worked together on the Best Picture-nominated dark comedy “Don’t Look Up.”
The 81-year-old filmmaker plans to tackle the Sinatra biopic after “Life of Jesus,” his independently financed religious film that is expected to go into production this year. (Variety notes that “Silence” star Andrew Garfield and “Top Gun: Maverick” actor Miles Teller are up for potential roles in that project.)

Martin Scorsese is taking on biopics of both Jesus and a music god: Frank Sinatra.
The Oscar-winning auteur is rumored to be once more developing a biopic based on the legendary crooner — a project Scorsese’s been associated with before — with longtime collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio in talks to portray Ol’ Blue Eyes himself. Variety reported the news. DiCaprio recently starred in Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and also led other Scorsese-helmed biopics like “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “The Aviator.”
Variety noted that Frank Sinatra’s daughter Tina Sinatra controls her father’s estate and hasn’t yet approved a film adaptation of his life story. However, Scorsese is already looking to cast both DiCaprio and fellow Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence in the film, with Lawrence portraying screen star Ava Gardner, who was Sinatra’s second wife after Nancy Barbato. Lawrence and DiCaprio co-starred in “Don’t Look Up.
