Remember the late ’80s and early ’90s when “American Gladiators” ruled the airwaves? That was a great show. The show came back to NBC in 2008, hosted by Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali, but that reboot didn’t hold water. However, “American Gladiators” isn’t giving up–the show is planning on coming back to television once again. According to TV Guide, “American Gladiators” is getting rebooted once again. Arthur Smith, the person behind “American Ninja Warrior” and “Hell’s Kitchen” is over the reboot. Of course, the reboot will attempt to modernize the show, but strangely enough, the series is being pushed into a much darker direction. “It’s a little darker, more intense, [ Read More ]

Though she first made a big pop culture splash as one of the new "American Gladiators" on NBC, mixed martial artist Gina Carano has become an impressive action starlet in films like Haywire and Fast & Furious 6. Suddenly, she finds herself caught up in a conspiracy on a tropical island when her husband vanishes on their honeymoon. And so, Carano is off to bust skulls, find her husband, and figure out just what is going on. It doesn't look very good, but Carano kicks ass. Watch below! Long-running horror franchise The Mummy is to be unwrapped yet again, this time with Len Wiseman reopening the cursed tomb of ancient Egyptian adventure.
Deadline reports that Wiseman is in talks to direct a reboot of The Mummy for Universal Pictures.
The filmmaker is no stranger to supernatural fantasy, having directed the first two Underworld movies and produced the next two instalments. He also directed Die Hard 4 and, most recently, a remake of Total Recall.
Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts is to script The Mummy reboot for a possible release in summer 2014.
Earlier this year it emerged that writer/producer duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Cowboys & Aliens, Fringe) had been hired by Universal to develop new versions of The Mummy and Van Helsing, and this is the first sign of further movement on the plans.

American Gladiators star Gina Carano is set to star in the female version of the macho action blockbuster The Expendables. Director Adi Shankar is putting together a no-punches pulled female cast - including the Haywire star - for the girlie equivalent of the Sly Stallone action ride. “I don’t know how I’m supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of ‘The Expendables’ without Gina Carano in it, " he said.

Gina Carano is the first to take the leap.
Producer Adi Shankar seems serious about making what would be a dream come true for every action fan on the planet, and he's taken the first step toward making the proposed all-female riff on "The Expendables" a reality: He's gotten the former Mma champion to star in it, according to Variety.
Carano (who was known as 'Crush' on "American Gladiators") is the first of hopefully many "action-oriented actresses" to officially sign on to the project. For Shenkar, having the "Haywire" star involved was a no-brainer.

Steven Soderbergh’s exhilarating Haywire begins with a jaw-dropping fight in a café between mixed martial arts star Gina Carano and current “It Boy” Channing Tatum. The scene is so well crafted, so immediate and intense, that it actually hurts to watch. Every punch, every kick, every bone-crack has a weight and a physical relationship to the surroundings. It’s a spectacularly shot and choreographed sequence that sets the bar pretty high for the rest of the film. While Soderbergh is unable to sustain the incredible momentum of this great scene, he does end up delivering a smart, engrossing little action film regardless.

Reality overlord Mark Burnett and Law & Order king Dick Wolf are finally teaming up, but sadly, it's not for Law & Order: Heroes vs. Villains. Instead, Vulture has learned that the two moguls snagged a series order from NBC for a reality show tentatively titled Stars Earn Stripes, with Fear Factor and American Gladiators alum David A. Hurwitz exec producing. Think of it as a less campy, and far more worthwhile take on Celebrity Apprentice: Nine celebs will compete in various military-themed challenges each week in an effort to raise cash for charities that serve our men and women in uniform. On each episode, the stars will assemble at a military training facility and be trained in preparation for combat-related tasks, such as a (staged) hostage rescue. They'll then square off against each other in the competition, with one celeb booted each week. "When I see someone in a...

One of three Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) movies that arrived in theaters in 2011, Haywire is the first starring role of Gina Carano, also known as mixed martial arts fighter Crush on American Gladiators.
The action thriller film tells the story of Mallory Kane (Carano), a black-ops agent for a government security contractor (Ewan McGregor, The Island). After going on a mission to rescue a Chinese journalist who was being held hostage, Kane is double-crossed and left for dead. So she goes on the run, revealing everything she has been doing to a hostage (Michael Angarano, The Art of Getting By) she picked up at a diner, while she tries to trap the people who set her up.

Carano To Receive First Chick Norris Award
Mixed martial arts star-turned-actress Gina Carano is to be honoured with ActionFest's inaugural Chick (sic) Norris Award for her high-octane performance in Haywire.
The prize, named after the event's 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Chuck Norris, honours the Best Female Action Star of the year.
Carano, who made her movie debut as a leading lady playing a betrayed black ops soldier in the Steven Soderbergh film, will accept the honour at the festival in Asheville, North Carolina in April.
The former American Gladiators star says, "It is an incredible honour to be included in this event. Chuck Norris has always been someone I respect and look up to. Being able to represent martial arts as a woman has been a blessing in my life and I am so intensely grateful to the people who have supported and shared this passion with me."
And Norris tells WENN, "I am honoured to have Gina Carano receive this award... I cannot think of a better person than Gina for this honour, and I am proud that she is the first to receive this award. I highly respect her martial arts ability and she deserves all her accolades for Haywire. Watch out world, a star is born. A proven fighter and very tough action star is here to stay."...

Matt talks to Mma star Gina Carano about Haywire, The Expendables 3, and whether she wanted to punch Ewan McGregor in the face...
I nervously anticipated my interview with Gina Carano. I love action films and getting the chance to talk to a rising star from this genre would have been exciting enough, but I’ve been a fan of Carano as an Mma fighter for years now.
My nerves, then, were primarily due to excitement, but there were a couple of other things that were putting me on edge.
Someone whose day job is to punch people in the face might not make the friendliest interview subject, I considered. Not to mention that I’m an idiot who likes to ask silly questions, questions which someone who is well versed in throat-choking might not appreciate being asked. Some of us are just getting to know Gina Carano, as she makes her movie debut in Steven Soderberg’s Haywire, in theaters today. In the movie, she plays Mallory Kane, a private security contractor whose boss/lover turns on her. And naturally, to survive and exact revenge, she winds up kicking the ass of some rather delicious foes: Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas and Channing Tatum. She also happens to have done all of her own stunts. (At post-screening Q&A for the movie we attended back in December, she said she loves bruises and had to talk the stunt guys into hitting her for real.) Because before becoming an actress, she was a professional badass.

The action-packed spy film “Haywire” hits theaters on Friday, and it marks the film debut for its gorgeous leading lady Gina Carano! You may have already heard that Gina is a professional fighter, but here are 10 things you didn’t know about the newly minted film star.1. She’s the daughter of a quarterback – Gina’s dad is Glenn Carano, a backup Qb for the Dallas Cowboys from 1977-1983.2. She’s a baller – The 5’8” star helped lead her Trinity High School basketball team to claim the Nevada State Championship!3. She’s a Gladiator – Gina was known as “Crush” on the competition show “American Gladiators.” That’s pretty much what she did to competitors.4. She can’t sleep – The Texas native is a self-proclaimed insomniac. And when she does finally fall asleep? She dreams about the end of the world. Yikes, that would make us insomniacs too!5. She masters all areas...

In his follow-up to Contagion, auteur Steven Soderbergh makes over the espionage thriller and puts an ass-kicking woman in the lead. That Haywire features a female action star isn’t in itself particularly innovative (see: Salt, Wanted). That the female action star isn’t Angelina Jolie, and that Soderbergh built the film around a mixed martial arts fighter in her first theatrically released film—well, that’s something one doesn’t see every day. In addition to her EliteXC and Strikeforce bouts, Gina Carano has appeared in TV’s American Gladiators and direct-to-dvd actioner Blood and Bone, but here she headlines a cast that includes A-listers...

Tyrants!
So last night, I had the pleasure of going to an advanced screening of Steven Soderbergh’s action thriller Haywire followed by a Q&A with its lovely star Gina Carano.
For those who’ve never heard of Carano, it's because this is her first starring role in a feature film. She is primarily an Mma fighter for Strike Force and had a brief stint on NBC’s revival of American Gladiators. Soderbergh handpicked Carano for this project and built Haywire around her, along with an impressive cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, and Bill Paxton.

Relativity Media has provided ComingSoon.net with an exclusive sneak peek at the new TV spot for Steven Soderbergh's action-thriller Haywire , starring "American Gladiators" and Mixed Martial Arts star Gina Carano as Mallory, a special ops agent who finds a target on her back once she's outlived her use to the agency. The film co-stars Ewan McGregor as Mallory's direct superior and Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas as higher ups at the agency, while Channing Tatum and Michael Fassbender play fellow field agents. Michael Angarano plays Scott, a young man Mallory picks up while on the run. As you can tell from the spot, it's a fairly action-packed film, but it also reunites Soderbergh with Lem Dobbs, screenwriter of The Limey , and David Holmes, who did the music for...

It pains me to say this, but watch Michael Fassbender get the crap kicked out of him in this trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire. Mixed martial arts (Mma) superstar Gina Carano (American Gladiators) makes her feature film debut, starring and performing her own high-adrenaline stunts.
At Friday’s Haywire Comic Con panel, Soderbergh said he discovered Carano when he saw her fight on TV for the 1st time and wondered why no one built a movie around her. There wasn’t even a story in mind when the two first met. Soderbergh said, “I felt it would be fun to watch it be created around her.”

The onslaught of new trailers continues from Comic-Con this week as we finally have our first look at Steven Soderbergh's much anticipated action flick Haywire. Last week we saw the debut trailer [1] for his upcoming virus thriller Contagion, and now this one finds him dipping into the modern spy genre. Mma star Gina Carano (aka Crush from American Gladiators) plays Mallory Kane, a black ops agent who is double crossed by the government and seeks revenge. It was a little bit worrisome to see the trailer open with Carano sitting across from Channing Tatum, but fortunately the acting talent gradually increases throughout as we also see Michael Douglas, Michael Angarano, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender and Bill Paxton (among others). Make no mistake, Soderbergh is indulging in pure genre here, as there doesn't seem to be much depth to the film... but I'm okay with that. The action looks exciting...

After Relativity released all those new images and poster for Steven Soderbergh’s “Haywire” in the last few days, it was inevitable that we would get the film’s first official trailer sooner or later. As it turns out, it’s sooner, because here it is, Soderbergh’s first foray into action movie making “Haywire”, which stars Mma fighter and former American Gladiators girl Gina Carano. Don’t let that fool you, though; Soderbergh has wisely surrounded Carano with a bunch of excellent actors, including but not limited to Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor. Go ahead, take “Haywire” for a spin. You might like it. Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency.

Sdcc is in full swing and continues to feed us hot, fresh information direct from the source--the filmmakers. Steven Soderbergh (Ocean.s 11, The Informant) arrived to show off this flashy new trailer for his upcoming action thriller Haywire. The film stars Mma powerhouse Gina Carano, or Crush from the latest iteration of American Gladiators, who is a government killing machine, betrayed by her handlers and left for dead. Shockingly (read: obviously), she.s not dead and is out for blood against those who have wronged her. Scope out the trailer below. The flick also stars Channing Tatum, Ewan MacGregor, Michael Fassbender, Michale Douglas, and a host of others. Soderbergh is no stranger to ensemble casts though, so expect this to be a well managed cast of characters. Earlier this year, the Ocean.s 11 director announced on Rich Eisen.s podcast that he.d be retiring from filmmaking. At 48 years old...

TV.com has obtained "leaked" clips from NBC and David E. Kelley's failed "Wonder Woman" pilot, starring former "Friday Night Lights" alum, and future former G.I.
