Amazon first step in KBS Internet sales plan
SEOUL -- South Korea's top broadcaster, KBS, has started selling its programs on Amazon.com, in the first step of a plan to expand the country's Internet offerings. The first program, Immortal Admiral, Yi Soon Shin, first hit Amazon's Unbox Download service Sept. 20, with all 103 episodes available for $1.99 each. Soon to follow will be other past hits including Full House and Emperor of the Seas. "We want to start with classics and popular shows, then expand," said Sung Tae-ho, manager of the global strategy team at KBS. All revenues raised from Amazon.com sales will go to KBS America, which is responsible for the distribution of KBS contents to the U.S. KBS' programs are only available in the U.S. at this time, although a spokesman for the channel said they are considering expanding to other countries.
