Photo Credit: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment It’s been 20 years since the unlikely reboot of Battlestar Galactica started airing. Whereas the original series hadn’t garnered much critical acclaim, the reboot was widely hailed as one of the best shows of its time. Emmy Award winner Edward James Olmos was persuaded to going Galactica’s crew as the ship’s commanding officer and remained with the show throughout its four-season run. Ironically, he told a New York Comic Con audience he’d never watched the original incarnation of the show, so when it came to deciding whether to take the role or not, he based his decision solely on the reboot’s script. When we talk about legends of the Star Trek franchise, specifically about those behind the scenes, few names hold as much weight as Ronald D. Moore. Coming up on Star Trek: The Next Generation, he became integral to the show's later success. While not the main driving force behind the creative that so many fans came to love, he was a huge part of it.
So much so that he'd help do the same for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the first two Next Generation-era films (Generations and First Contact). He was as much about Star Trek as anyone was and could be. Eventually, however, the desire for a new challenge arose and he'd get that challenge.
Thanks to the then-named Sci-Fi Channel (now SyFy), Moore would go on to create and develop a remake of the Battlestar Galactica franchise. A sleeper hit in the late 1970s, the show...

Having appeared in titles such as Firefly, Star Trek: Voyager, Battlestar Galactica, and Doom Patrol, Mark Sheppard has cemented himself as a prominent name in the realm of sci-fi on TV. However, amidst all his works, the actor’s stint as the King of Hell in Supernatural remains one of the actor’s most memorable performances.

Although he has continued to excel outside of the realm of Supernatural, from which he was let go in 2017, last year, Sheppard sustained a major health crisis, which could’ve had some serious implications.

Ronald D. Moore is one of the most accomplished "Star Trek" writers of the "Next Generation" era. His subsequent work creating "Battlestar Galactica" (telling stories he couldn't on "Star Trek") and "For All Mankind" cement him as a king of science-fiction television writing.
While he writes in the science-fiction space, Moore prioritizes human drama over high concepts. He writes not with embarrassment towards his chosen genre but conviction that your audience will care most when your characters experience familiar struggles even if they walk around in unfamiliar settings.
So, it makes total sense that Moore has consistently called "The Conscience of the King" one of his favorite "Star Trek" episodes ever. It's a brilliant episode that kickstarts the tradition of intertwining "Star Trek" and Shakespeare. The episode title is a "Hamlet" quote, and the episode's guest players are a Shakespearean theater troupe.

“Murder in a Small Town” is part romance, part crime procedural and all kinds of small-town cozy in between. Starring Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville”) and Rossif Sutherland (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), the new Fox drama transports viewers to the quiet coastal Canadian town of Gibsons and feels like the TV-ification of the “cozy mystery” trend that’s been so popular in online book communities in recent years.
Indeed, the series is inspired by the Karl Alberg book series by L.R. Wright, following the former big-city officer (Sutherland) to his new small-town home where he takes on the role of police chief in the idyllic town. Season 4 was an important moment for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" — we've even named it the best "Tng" season. With the fourth season, the show had officially gone for more years than "The Original Series" had and even reached 100 episodes with its season finale. That season finale was "Redemption, Part 1," scripted by prolific "Star Trek" writer (and future "Battlestar Galactica" re-creator) Ronald D. Moore.
The episode tilted its eye away from the Federation and towards the Klingons, capping off a running subplot about discontent in the empire. In the season 3 episode "Sins of the Father," the Klingon Duras (Patrick Massett) accuses Worf's (Michael Dorn) father M'ogh of having been a traitor to the Romulans. Due to Duras' political power, Worf is forced to accept the dishonor. Season 4 episode "Reunion" was a sequel, following Duras competing with the rival Gowron (Robert O'Reilly) to become the empire's chancellor. Worf kills Duras and Gowron wins the chancellorship.

The Nova Corps were first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, and a new rumor is claiming that two of the most prominent members of the intergalactic peacekeeping force are set to return for the upcoming Nova Disney+ series.
According to Mttsh, both Glenn Close and John C. Reilly will reprise their respective roles as Nova Prime Rael and Rhomann Dey.
These characters - along with the rest of the Corps - were believed to have been destroyed by Thanos shortly before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, but it only makes sense that some of them would have survived the attack. Then again, there's always a chance that they'll only appear in flashbacks.
We first got confirmation that Marvel Studios was planning to introduce Nova to the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2022, and since then, there have been conflicting reports about which medium the project was being developed for.

It’s been almost 20 years since a show with some major twists premiered—the first episode of Battlestar Galactica Season 1 aired in October 2004 in the UK and January 2005 in the U.S.—and there has even been some talk of a reboot. But would James Callis, who starred as Gaius Baltar, want to revisit the show and his character? “No, I don’t think so,” he tells TV Insider. “We did our piece. We had the most incredible time.” But he does look back on the show—and his castmates—very fondly. “The show was incredible. It’s still incredible. It is fascinating because of where it comes from in the sense of, ours was a reboot anyway. I watched the original show in the ’70s, and Richard Hatch was one of my heroes. So to end up in the show afterwards… In old texts, I think, they have a...

Hollywood has been chasing the blockbuster high of "Star Wars" since 1977 — and often falling short. One of the first and most transparent copies, though, was on television. In 1978, Glen A. Larson created a space opera for serialization on ABC: "Battlestar Galactica." Set in far-away space, the series kicked off with the TV movie "Saga of a Star World." Humans, living on 12 planets named for the astrological signs, are at war with a robot race called the Cylons. A surprise attack sees the Cylons laying waste to their enemies — the remaining humans flee in a "ragtag fugitive fleet" led by the eponymous starship.
The "Star Wars" similarities are obvious, both in narrative and aesthetic. Lieutenant Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) in "Battlestar Galactica" is a cocky starship pilot, clearly modeled on Han Solo (Harrison Ford). Like the X-Wings in "Star Wars," the heroes fly one-man, fighter jet style ships ("Vipers") into battle. A...

"Star Trek: Enterprise" doesn't have the best reputation. A prequel set in the 22nd century, "Enterprise" took place before the Federation was founded and when humanity was just beginning to travel where no (hu)man had gone before. General consensus is that it didn't do enough to stand apart from past "Star Trek" shows, despite its supposedly different setting, and made the franchise look like it was out of steam.
"Enterprise" wound up being the first "Star Trek" series since the original to not get seven seasons; the fourth season, which aired from 2004 to 2005, was its last produced. The show improved as it went on; season 4 (showrun by the late Manny Cato) is often downright great. Unfortunately, it was too little too late for a season 5 that could've kept this stride going.
Scott Bakula, who starred as Captain Jonathan Archer, has some theories about why the show got off on...

Leonard Nimoy wrote his first autobiography in 1975, titling it "I Am Not Spock." It wasn't born out of hatred for his beloved "Star Trek" role, it was simply inspired by people conflating him with his character. Notably, Nimoy wrote a follow-up titled "I Am Spock" 20 years later.
Spock was Nimoy's breakout part and his most remembered role, but lest we forget that aforementioned memoir, he'd been acting for more than a decade before "Star Trek" came along. One of his more minor parts was in an episode of "The Twilight Zone" season 3 — "A Quality of Mercy." The episode is set in the Philippines on August 6, 1945 (the day the U.S. bombed Hiroshima). Nimoy plays Hansen, one of the American G.I.'s fighting the last days of an already-won war.
The idea of the episode came from writer Sam Rolfe, but the actual teleplay was written by "Twilight Zone" creator/narrator Rod Serling.

Mike Flanagan’s home invasion horror movie Hush (2016) made its debut on Digital courtesy of Shout! Studios just last week, the film finally available to watch again after disappearing from streaming for the past couple years. The film has also never received a physical media release, but we’ve learned that’s all changing thanks to Scream Factory later this year.
Hush comes to physical media for the very first time in a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Collector’s Edition release from Scream Factory on November 26, 2024, the company announced today!
Scream Factory previews, “This highly anticipated Collector’s Edition includes a newly restored 4K version of the film, supervised and approved by Director Mike Flanagan.
“Additionally, a new black-and-white version of the film, nicknamed the “Shush Cut,” with a new audio mix will be featured. This mix removes nearly all of the score, providing a different effect that is just as terrifying as the original.

Apple TV+’s Slow Horses Season 4 premiere, “Identity Theft,” wasted no time ramping up its stakes. Rather, it slammed us with explosions, murder and emotionally fraught espionage, all while building to a major new threat that will rattle Slough House’s very foundations…

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' Head of Marvel Streaming, Television and Animation, to discuss the launch of Agatha All Along on Disney+ later this month.
Addressing how the MCU continues to experiment with genre and tone, the executive promised fans that Daredevil: Born Again doesn't hold back when it comes to violence.
"I'll tell you, some of the most brutal action we've ever brought to the screen is coming in Daredevil: Born Again," Winderbaum said, "which isn't a horror show, but really it packs a lot of power and there's a lot of visceral action, to say the least."
He'd later elaborate on horror's place in the MCU and mentioned Blade, confirming that the movie is still happening.
"I think that it goes back to the filmmaker's intent," Winderbaum pointed out. "The horror on screen in Agatha is going to be different than the horror on screen in Marvel Zombies,...

Despite announcing a scaled-back creative slate, Marvel Studios still has several projects in active development, including a live-action “Nova” series. The show has been in the works for a while, but only recently did Marvel executives confirm it as a legitimate project.
In July, Kevin Feige revealed that “Nova” is officially in development, with a focus on Richard Rider as the central character. However, the series is still 3-4 years away from its release.
Given Nova’s storylines, we can anticipate plenty of cosmic adventures—a detail recently confirmed by Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum during an interview with the Phase Zero Podcast.
He mentioned that the show draws inspiration from “Star Trek” and “Battlestar Galactica.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has consistently delivered groundbreaking narratives and unforgettable characters that have stayed with the audience. With each new project, MCU has captured otherworldly imaginations and pushed the boundaries of what superhero storytelling can achieve. It seems like they plan to continue the tradition by introducing Nova’s series.

“Nova” is a series that has been reportedly in development for quite some time. And it’s also a series that has a lot of fan expectations, as the “Nova” comic books are some of the most beloved in Marvel, even though Richard Ryder might be more of a B-list character. However, according to one of Marvel’s executives, don’t put the cosmic cart before the horse, as just because “Nova” is in development it doesn’t necessarily mean the show is a guarantee.

We first got confirmation that Marvel Studios was planning to introduce Nova to the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2022, and since then, there have been conflicting reports about which medium the project was being developed for.
Now, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, has confirmed that Nova is indeed heading to the small screen, and shared some intriguing updates on the studio's plans for the space-faring hero... or should that be heroes?
While speaking to the Phase Zero podcast, Winderbaum describes the Nova series as an "amazing ensemble piece with a great cast of characters" possibly indicating that both Richard Rider and Sam Alexander will feature. He also says that the show will have "shades of" both Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica.
Winderbaum also confirmed that more Special Presentations are on the way, though he didn't reveal any more details.

I know it doesn’t feel like 2004 was 20 years ago, but it was, which means many great TV shows just turned 20 years old.
Seriously, 2004 is a sneaky good year for new TV premieres. Most of the titles on this list of good TV shows turning 20 years old in 2024 were broadcast hits. The cable networks had a decent market share in the early 2000s, but we’re still a decade before the streaming industry changed the TV game.
At this point in TV history, we’re still seven years before the Game of Thrones premiere. Remember that, please!
Let’s get the list started with the best show of 2004!

Created by Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams, and Damon Lindelof, Lost premiered on ABC in the fall of 2004. The series told the story of a group of survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island.

One of the most aggravating aspects of becoming invested in a TV show is when networks cancel it too soon. There are many shows that haven’t made it past one season, as they struggle to establish a strong fanbase. For the most part, these cancelled series plummet into the TV wasteland of forgotten shows. But a few live on as cult series, or in the memory of fans still bitter over an early cancellation.
There are several reasons a network cancels a show, but the main one is ratings – especially in the days when the Neilsen ratings determined the fate of a series. Before cable and streaming, the “Big Three” networks of ABC, CBS and NBC fought for viewership, and wouldn’t hesitate to axe a show that didn’t perform well. Unfortunately, some shows like “The Tick” didn’t receive the support they deserved from network executives, either...

Even the most popular and successful science fiction television series see changes to their main cast over the years. From the grueling schedule of long filming hours to trying to seek new opportunities in one's career, there are numerous reasons actors leave fan-favorite roles behind. Of course, there are also more dramatic reasons that actors quit shows, spilling tea on creative differences and behind-the-scenes struggles years after their departure. Even legacy sci-fi properties like "Star Trek" and "Battlestar Galactica" have their own stories of high-profile cast departures, even at the height of their run.
Below, we've assembled some of the biggest instances of actors quitting beloved sci-fi shows and explained why each chose to step away from their respective television projects. While some instances were more cordial and professional, some resignations reveal intense drama and tension behind the scenes. After 2022 saw Slow Horses drop not only two complete seasons, but enough protagonist bodies to pack out a Ford Cortina, the third outing successfully lulled us into a false sense of security. Save for a kidnapping, some light torture, and a near-miss with a double-decker bus, Season 3 left our heroes largely undented. Strap in for round four, however, as showrunner Will Smith (Veep) and author Mick Herron are back on sadistic form from the get-go, not only blowing up a shopping centre in the opening scene, but placing all our heroes in the kind of mortal peril that regularly ends with a truncated cast list.
The set-up not only sees the MI5 off-cuts at Slough House trying to unravel the ongoing bomb threat, but also brings tragedy closer to home. River Cartwright’s (Jack Lowden) grandfather, former spymaster David (Jonathan Pryce), is showing early signs of dementia.

"Pacific Rim" is one of the best American blockbuster movies of the 2010s ... or one of the best kaiju movies ever ... or even one of the best live-action anime movies not based on a specific anime (but still clearly inspired by "Patlabor" and "Tetsujin-28"). It's also a hugely important movie for filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and an essential part of the Oscar-winner's filmography. After all, "Pacific Rim" was both his first original English-language script and his first original film in seven years -- not to mention the film that marked his transition into a full-time Hollywood director.
Still, as successful as the movie was, and as much as it depended on del Toro's unique visual style and imagination, a sequel (titled "Pacific Rim Uprising") was made without his involvement, meaning his original ideas for "Pacific Rim 2" were all scrapped. And though it seems unlikely that a third "Pacific Rim" will ever get made,...

Since the launch of CBS All Access -- which is now called Paramount+ -- in 2017, Paramount has debuted a massive spate of new "Star Trek" shows. This began with "Star Trek: Discovery," followed quickly by "Star Trek: Short Treks," the "Next Generation" throwback "Star Trek: Picard," the two animated shows "Star Trek: Lower Decks" and "Star Trek: Prodigy," and the Enterprise-set "Discovery" spinoff "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds." There was also a collection of animated shorts called "Very Short Treks."
As of this writing, only "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" and "Star Trek: Lower Decks" have new episodes forthcoming. This is in addition to a TV movie called "Star Trek: Section 31," set for release in 2025, and a series called "Starfleet Academy," which is currently in development.

I don’t often consider myself a fan of racing movies as they can feel a bit samey. Every now and then something comes along that shows a little uniqueness, but they feel few and far between. While One Fast Move certainly isn’t breaking any new story ground, I was surprised at how much its focus is on the people and their relationships with each other versus simply racing. Don’t get me wrong, the racing is great when they actually show it. But the primary focus being the relationships formed versus simply the race itself helps to make the stakes feel more grounded. A lot easier to relate to estranged family members reconnecting than someone just being really competitive and wanting to win.
I was able to talk to stars Kj Apa, Eric Dane, Edward James Olmos and Maia Reficco about the film and all of the stuntwork it entailed.

“Cuffs won’t be necessary,” Jackson Lamb tells the new Head ‘Dog’ in the first trailer for Slow Horses season four. She slaps a pair on him anyway with the retort that she’d rather not take any chances with a man “who looks like he gropes people on buses.” Affecting sensitivity, Lamb drily jokes that after such a personal insult, he might have to call Hr.
Slow Horses is back, baby.
Well, almost back. The fourth season starts streaming on Apple TV+ with a double-bill on Wednesday September 4, followed by a new episode weekly until the finale arrives on October 2.
Lamb’s season four sparring partner is Emma Flyte, the new head of MI5 internal affairs, replacing former tactical unit boss Duffy. He went the way of so many of this show’s characters after the events of last season, and now Ruth Bradley’s unflappable Flyte is on...

In 2019, Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail announced that he was working on a reboot of Battlestar Galactica, the sci-fi series from the late 1970s about humanity struggling to survive after losing a brutal war with robots. Or maybe he was rebooting the early 2000s reboot of Battlestar Galactica, which revamped the story for modern audiences. Is it time to give the series yet another facelift, perhaps for the age of giant, big-budget genre series like Game of Thrones and Foundation?
Apparently not, because Variety reports that Peacock has turned down the chance to go forward with the rebooted reboot, which is now being shopped around to other studios. Might I suggest they hit up Apple TV+? Between Foundation, Silo, Severance, For All Mankind, Invasion and Time Bandits, they have an apparently bottomless appetite for all things sci-fi. Lots of nerds over there at Apple TV+.
