Siegfried Fischbacher, who teamed with partner Roy Horn to become Siegfried & Roy, among the most famous magicians in the world and one of Las Vegas’ biggest draws, died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer at his home in Las Vegas. He was 81.
Fischbacher’s death was announced by his sister Dolore, who lives as a nun in Munich, Germany, to the German newspaper Bild. The news subsequently was confirmed by his publicist, Dave Kirvin.
“He fell asleep gently and peacefully,” Dolore told Bild. She said Fischbacher had been in the care of hospice nurses at his home.
Known for their flamboyant, Liberace-style costumes and the use in their act of “big cats” — lions, leopards, jaguars and, most famously, rare white tigers — Siegfried & Roy were partners in life as well as onstage who carved out a 40-year career with elaborate, large-scale illusions. The headlining duo became synonymous with Vegas glitz and over-the-top showbiz glamour.

Roy Horn, who thrilled Las Vegas crowds as part of the big-cats-and-magic act Siegfried & Roy until a tiger attack ended his career in 2003, died today of coronavirus at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas. He was 75.
Horn’s publicist said on April 28 that the magician had tested positive for Covid-19.
“Today, the world lost one of the greats of magic, but I have lost my best friend,” Horn’s longtime performing partner Siegfried Fischbacher said in a statement. “From the moment we met, I knew Roy and I, together, would change the world. There could be no Siegfried without Roy, and no Roy without Sirgfried.”
Horn and Fischbacher already were veteran performers before they became the toast of the Vegas Strip for more than a decade. Launched in 1990 at the Mirage, their show featured Siegfried & Roy performing with spectacular white lions and white tigers as audiences gasped and cheered.

So, thanks to our friends over at IMPAwards, we have three new posters up for Disney's Planes and, they're well...just there. That's as close as I can get to the emotions these images stir up. The film, which is "from above the world of cars," could however turn out to be a blast, I'm just not convinced as the whole affair seems lackluster for the most part. Planes opens August 9th under the direction of Klay Hall (Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Father of the Pride, King of the Hill), with a script by Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue writer Jeffrey M. Howard.

ABC has given the green light to Middle Age Rage, a single-camera comedy pilot from veteran writer-producer Cheryl Holliday, Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV and ABC Studios. Written by Holliday, Middle Age Rage reflects Holliday’s personal frustration about how the average middle-age woman is treated in the world today. It chronicles what happens when a middle-aged wife and mother is fed up with feeling invisible and begins to speak up and demand the respect she feels she’s earned. Holliday executive produces with Amblin/DreamWorks TV co-presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. This marks the third pilot order for Holliday and DreamWorks TV. They also landed two cast-contingent pilot pickups in 2006. King Of the Hill alumna Holliday’s credits also include DreamWorks TV’s NBC animated series Father Of The Pride as well as CBS’ Mike & Molly and Still Standing.

During his decade overseeing NBC (and later parent company NBCUniversal), Jeff Zucker never warmed to Hollywood, and Hollywood most decidedly never warmed to him. It's no shock, then, that yesterday's multiple reports suggesting Zucker is moments away from being named the head of CNN Worldwide were met with a mix of bemusement and borderline contempt from the entertainment types who've dealt extensively with him before: showrunners, actors, and, yes, the reporters who cover television. Time Magazine TV critic James Poniewozik kicked off the inevitable Twitter meme #ZuckerCNNShows with "Emeril 360." That prompted a flood of Zucker mockery from other industry types: Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan ("Super-Sized Wolf Blitzer"), actors Rob Lowe ("The Situation Room with The Situation") and Chad Lowe (!) ("Leno Presents"), CBS program planning chief Kelly Kahl ("Bashir Factor"), and TV Guide's Damian Holbrook (“Anderson Cooper's Father of the Pride Parade”). Have I got some thrilling news for you! Gnomeo & Juliet, Disney’s lawn-set adventure about two star-crossed ceramic gnomes, is getting its sequel. The original film drew its inspiration — and pun-ny title — from William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, but unlike that tragic tale, these warring Montagues and Capulets put aside their difference without any bloodshed… though there were some injuries that required hefty amounts of superglue.
Earlier this year, details about the sequel emerged revealing that its title Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes refers to a new figure in the world of lawn gnomes, sassy frog-nannies and plastic flamingos, who is tasked with solving the mystery of the garden’s missing ornaments/residents.
Elton John is back as producer and set to contribute original music for the production; screenwriters Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil are returning also, but rather than bringing back Gnomeo & Juliet director Kelly Asbury, Kung Fu Panda co-director...

Step right up for your chance to participate in The Hunger Games, because everybody seems to be anxious to take part in this dystopian reality show where losing equals dying.
The latest news from EW.com reveals two more people eager to become Tributes as Jacqueline Emerson and Chris Mark fill the slots for District 5. Emerson has the role of Foxface, a sly and clever girl who never says a word, while Mark steps into a character that doesn’t even get a name in Suzanne Collins’ novel.
Mark has appeared in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emporer and Unnatural History, but Emerson is cut from the same cloth as newbie Willow Shields, having only a voice role in 2004′s Father of the Pride TV series on her resume.
The Hunger Games is coming together at a fairly fast pace, with Katniss, Peete, and Gale getting big screen faces in no time at all.

Because it’s a day that ends in “y” there’s another Hunger Games cast update to announce – well several. First off, EW’s revealed that the roles of the tributes of District 5 have been cast. As with much of the tribute casting, the roles have been filled by unknowns: Chris Mark, who fittingly has a lengthy background in stunts, and Jacqueline Emerson, who voiced Donkey on the short-lived animated series Father of the Pride. Both are sure to be little more than featured extra roles, as the District 5 tributes were never named, though the wily red-headed girl was nicknamed Foxface by Katniss (whose to be played by Jennifer Lawrence.)
In other news, Vulture has claimed that Woody Harrelson has been offered the role of Seneca Crane, the Head Gamemaker of the 74th Hunger Games. However, it’s worth noting that Vulture had previously claimed John C. Reilly was in...

CBS tops Tuesday with 'NCIS' repeat
CBS eked out the nightly win Tuesday on what was a low-rated night all around for the Big Four broadcast networks. Fueled by a rerun of NCIS and a fresh installment of The Amazing Race 6, CBS led the night in total viewers, with an average of 10.3 million, and narrowly topped ABC and NBC for the nightly glory in adults 18-49 (3.2 rating/9 share), according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. NCIS (12.9 million, 3.5/10) ranked as the night's most-watched program in viewers while NBC's 10 p.m. repeat of Law & Order: SVU (11.6 million, 4.3/12) delivered the highest adults 18-49 score of the night. The network didn't have much traction from 8-10 p.m. with three fresh episodes of its long-shelved animated series Father of the Pride and a 9:30 p.m. Scrubs repeat. CBS won the 9 p.m. hour with Amazing Race (10.4 million, 3.9/10).

Fox's 'Champs' stumbles out of gate Tuesday
Fox was KO'd Tuesday with its debut of the boxing-reality series The Next Great Champ, while NBC took a hit in the competitive 9 p.m. hour with the second outing of the animated comedy Father of the Pride. CBS won the night on the strength of Big Brother 5 and The Amazing Race as the summer editions of the unscripted elimination-competition shows wind down to their Sept. 21 finales. Big Brother led at 9 p.m. with an average of 10.7 million viewers and a 4.5 rating/12 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. (Final national ratings for Tuesday were delayed until today because of the Labor Day holiday and disruptions at Nielsen's Florida facilities caused by Hurricane Frances.) Race followed at 10 p.m. with a healthy 10.7 million viewers and a 4.9/13 in 18-49.

NBC's 'Pride' bow pounces; FNC bounces
The widespread power outages in Florida caused by Hurricane Frances didn't spare Nielsen Media Research's facilities in the Sunshine State, leading to a delay in the national weekly rating data for the week of Aug. 30. The final weekly numbers, initially scheduled for release Wednesday, are now expected today. The week, which was disjointed by the Big Three's coverage of the Republican National Convention, marked the debut of two NBC series, Father of the Pride and Hawaii, and the season premieres of several returning NBC shows as part of the network's post-Olympics fall rollout.

No shame for NBC's solid 'Pride' debut Tues.

Pride bought in an average of 12.3 million viewers and 5.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic in its commercial-free debut from 9-9:24 p.m., according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research (because of the odd running time, 18-49 demo share data for Pride was not immediately available). The good news for Pride was that it won the time period and spiked from its weak 8 p.m. lead-in, Last Comic Standing (6.5 million, 2.6/8).

TV trio gets Family Friendly funding
ABC's sitcom Savages, CBS' coming-of-age drama Clubhouse and NBC's animated comedy Father of the Pride are the new primetime series set to debut in the fall that were funded in part by the Family Friendly Programming Forum, the Association of National Advertisers said Tuesday. Launched in 1999, the Family Friendly initiative is a coalition of 40 big-ticket advertisers, including IBM, General Motors, FedEx Corp., General Mills and Ford Motor Corp., that provide seed money to the major broadcast networks to develop family-oriented programs. WGA drawn to 'Pride'
An interguild squabble has erupted between the WGA West and IATSE's animation local over which guild should have jurisdiction over writers on primetime animation shows. The rub concerns contractual coverage of the NBC/DreamWorks animated half-hour primetime show Father of the Pride. Over the past several years, the WGA has made no secret of its intention to organize any and all nonunion animation writers. However, in its ongoing push into animation, the WGA West has now targeted Father of the Pride, which was created and produced by DreamWorks Animation. The show as well as the animation house has a binding agreement with IATSE Local 839. The move by the WGA has sparked the ire of Local 839, which accused the WGA of "unfair labor practices." In an "urgent message" to members issued Thursday, newly re-elected WGA president Victoria Riskin charged that DreamWorks has repeatedly refused to grant the 12 writers on the show WGA contracts and has instead tried to "circumvent" the WGA by offering to cover the writers with IATSE's Local 839 agreement.
