A unique find
This documentary offers an incredible insight into one of the most successful and charismatic actors of the Jidaigeki era. With over 20 excerpts from his notable works and several interviews with actors and directors, the DVD engaged me on all levels. It has never been easy to come across a Japanese documentary on the silent film era with English subtitles and as an ardent fan of Japanese cinema, I was delighted to discover that the DVD was not only bilingual but was also historically informative. This DVD is truly unique in its intimate portrayal of Bantsuma as well as providing a wonderful overview of the silent film era.
