Natalie Portman is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s most successful and bankable A-listers. The Academy Award-winning actress has already presented her acting prowess on the big screen, and now she’s expanding her impressive skills in the television genre as well, with her role in Lady in the Lake. However, in this project, David Corenswet is working alongside her as well.

Chris Hemsworth became a household name with the role of Thor the God of Thunder in the MCU. Since 2011, the Aussie powerhouse has been wowing audiences with his charm, talent, and of course, good looks. But his good looks came into question when the actor had to become fat Thor for Avengers: Endgame.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor | Marvel Studios
After the failure of the Avengers in trying to save the world from Thanos, while all the Og Avengers took it hard having lost some of their closest loved ones along with half the universe’s population, it was Hemsworth’s Thor who underwent the most drastic change. From the chiseled abs, Thor had a beer belly after depression hit him hard and knocked him onto the couch, with seemingly no way to get up (or out) of it. And that almost gave the actor some serious injury.

‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ was released in 2022, and the movie was described as cringy at best. And while everyone praised Taika’s first Thor, ‘Ragnarok’ ‘Love & Thunder’ was heavily criticized for excessive out-of-place humor, especially when you take into account that one of the prominent themes in the movie was Foster’s cancer and one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Comics Universe, Gorr the God Butcher.
The movie was a failure in every imaginable and conveyable way, having little redeeming qualities. Following the release, Chris Hemsworth also took a break from acting due to troubling test results that showed him having more chances to develop Alzeheimer than the average person, although he later cleared up that his break from acting was due to his desire to spend more time with his children and not the result of his genetic results.

‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ is the latest installment in the ‘Thor’ movie series. Despite the movie featuring the grand return of Thor following ‘Endgame’ and a grand cast of characters, including a fairly-known villain from the comics, the movie wasn’t as successful as it was hoped, mostly due to its cringy humor and waste of a potentially magnificent storyline.
Still, one good thing came out of the movie, and that was Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor. As a reminder, Jane is sick with cancer, and in a last-ditch attempt to save her life, she starts wielding Mjolnir but gets more than she bargained for as she goes on on an epic adventure with Thor battling against Gorr the God Butcher, who has beef to settle with pretty much every god in the universe. But, the movie doesn’t have a cheery ending as its overall atmosphere seems to be,...

You can’t please everyone. That’s a hard fact of life that many major franchise film directors are quite familiar with. Though Marvel movies usually have a higher success rate with critics, a quick glance at social media will unearth quite a few detractors for any given pic.
While some of this criticism is earned – here’s looking at you Iron Man 2 – Marvel’s focus on diversifying their future films has led to a lot of unwarranted hate toward movies that haven’t even been released yet. And, like most of the Internet, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has had enough.
After Marvel’s Sdcc panel revealed that the God of Thunder’s fourth solo outing would find Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster becoming the Mighty Thor, most fans were thrilled. However, almost immediately, a handful of angry fanboys took to the web to voice their displeasure with the idea.

The Thor franchise gets a new lease of life thanks to Taika Waititi, who gives the God of Thunder his best McU showcase yet

With Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in full swing, having already introduced a couple of major new characters and raised the stakes for the Earth-bound Avengers (in Captain America: Civil War), it was time for the Mighty Thor's third big-screen outing. It's fair to say, though, that the God of Thunder was in need of a bit of a rethink after his largely soulless second adventure, The Dark World. As Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian hero tells his up-to-his-old-tricks brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), sometimes a change can do you good...
The man tasked by Marvel with leading that change was Taika Waititi. And change things he did.

By now, I’m sure many of you know to stay after the credits whenever seeing the latest Marvel movie and, likewise, wonder where the heck everyone else is going when they begin to roll. I mean, haven’t people learned their lesson on numerous occasions since the first Iron Man flick debuted back in 2008?
Anyway, now that 2018 is underway, the House of Ideas have implemented a similar flourish in their comic books, specifically involving Wolverine. As you may have heard by now, the 616 Logan that we all love is once again among the living, having returned this past fall in the Marvel Legacy one-shot. Still, much mystery surrounds the resurrected icon, particularly why he’s not dead anymore – and how he came into possession of an Infinity Stone.

Before I get into my reviews I want to talk about the recent news regarding Wolverines return from the dead. After his appearance on Legacy #1 it has been confirmed that the original 616 continuity Wolverine will be back with us very soon. The road to his return starts in January 2018. He will appear in a series of ‘post credit scenes’ in key titles Captain America #697, Mighty Thor #703 and Amazing Spider-Man #794. Now I am a Wolverine completest but I can say right now I will not be buying these three issues or any other issues with Wolverine ‘post credit scenes’. Call me old fashioned but one of the premier X-Men should return in an X book or one of the two Wolverine titles. Of course after these ‘post credit’ appearances that could still happen and I hope we get a larger story involving his return in the two Wolverine titles or mini.

For some time now, we’ve been talking about the Marvel Legacy one-shot slated to arrive in comic shops this September and understandably so. Spanning fifty pages, this oversized issue set to be written by Jason Aaron (Mighty Thor) and illustrated by Esad Ribic (Secret Wars) should not only make for a definitive read, but will also set the tone for the next year of story arcs planned by the House of Ideas.
One aspect about this standalone tale that caught our attention is that it’ll reveal the group that essentially served as the first Avengers, whom existed back in 1,000,000 B.C., to be exact. While it’s currently unknown if they’ll come across anyone resembling Raquel Welch, Marvel has released a pretty nifty trailer in the interim in order to get us geeked.

A new Thor has entered the Marvel 616 and he wields Ultimate Thor's Hammer. In the newest issue of The Mighty Thor, Volstagg was announced as the new Ultimate Thor. I have to say, it is not something I would have expected. I mean, I was less surprised to see Jane Foster as The Mighty Thor, than Volstagg. For those who don't know, Volstagg is the more portly of the Warriors Three. A trio of heroes who are comrades with Thor.
It all happened when Volstagg was acting as a representative of Asgard and visiting Nidavellir, home of the dwarves. The dwarves were taking in light elf refugees whose home was attacked. They are starving and the dwarves are having a hard time feeding them. While there, an attack took place claiming many. Volstagg took some light elf children and tried to protect them, but ultimately they died. This enraged Volstagg who then heard the call of the Hammer of Thor and went to it. He calls himself the War Thor. He's definitely not as jovial of a person as he was before.
Also in the issue, there is an interesting ultimatum placed. Jane Foster confides in Unworthy Thor that she is Mighty Thor, but she is so weak that if she becomes Thor one more time, she may never become Jane Foster again. Talk about deep and heavy for a comic. Children die, Jane Foster's cancer might end her forever, old Thor sulks because Jane Foster lied to him. It was a great issue, and I'm excited for the next issue that will feature all three Thor's teaming up!

If anything, September will be an important month for Marvel because, if all goes according to plan, they’ll be just about ready to put their currently in progress crossover event, Secret Empire, behind them and poised to move forward with whatever their next major initiative may be. And while we haven’t been in contact with any flies on the walls over at the House of Ideas, we’re pretty sure the Marvel Legacy one-shot is the vanguard.
First, let’s talk a bit about Secret Empire because that seems like the logical thing to do. Not long ago, it was revealed that a tenth issue would be added to the limited series, something not unheard of when it comes to major events – especially those from Marvel. And although this would seem like a definitive end to the story, there where rumors swirling that an eleventh wasn’t out of the question.
From what we can tell, that’s not going to happen, but an epilogue of sorts in Secret Empire Omega #1 has been announced. Upon examining the solicitation below, it quickly becomes apparent that this will likely be an essential read given that it retains the very same creative team that worked on the mainline series itself.

Secret Empire Aftermath!
• Hydra has fallen, but the world is still not secure! As the heroes of the Marvel Universe stir from the wreckage of the battlefield, the inevitable rebuilding must begin.
• However, one question hangs in the air over the proceedings: What redemption can there be for Captain America?
40 Pgs./Rated T+ …$4.99
Should that meet its targeted September release – which may be a feat, especially when you consider that Secret Empire #6 has been delayed until July 19 – that’ll smoothly transition into the all important Marvel Legacy #1 (solicitation below). So, if the publisher does allow it to ship before Secret Empire concludes, we can only hope that it doesn’t completely spoil the crossover’s ending. But, then again, let’s not forget this is the same lot that released Who Will Wield The Shield? before Captain America: Reborn wrapped.

These days, variant covers have become very serious business, effectively allowing the consumer to have alternate choices as to which pieces of dynamic artwork they can add to their respective collections. Some variants may be as common as standard covers or a few may be made available to each comic shop, thereby driving up the price tag. Heck, we’ve even seen the rise of retailer and con exclusive covers in recent years, causing certain editions of books to be sought after like the Holy Grail.
Not long ago, Marvel rolled out its hip hop variants, paying tribute to some of the great album covers the genre has had to offer over the years. Basically, they take a look at the original piece and give it a bit of a superhero spin. So, having...

Seeing as how DC had amazed us with its recent Injustice 2 prequel comic, it pleases us to learn that Marvel is also dipping its toe into the video game tie-in pool. Sure, they aren’t doing a full-blown tie-in series of their own – something we’re hoping they consider for the future – but their announcement of a generous helping of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite variant covers is most definitely a step in the right direction.
So, before you pick up the next installment in the popular fighting game franchise this September, be sure to stop by your local comic shop all throughout August in order to get your hands on the various participating titles. Unfortunately, we don’t know which artists will be lending their talents to this endeavor as of now, but Marvel Games executive creative director Bill Rosemann did have this to say:

One of Marvel’s most beloved heroes takes center stage next month and you’re not going to want to miss it… Fans have already gotten a glimpse of Mary Jane Watson in the Free Comic Book Day issue of Marvel’s upcoming series, Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1, and Marvel has enlisted some of comics’ most acclaimed artists to reimagine the fan-favorite in the shoes of iconic heroes such as Doctor Strange, Hulk, Iron Man, Wolverine and more. Says Marvel Svp Sales & Marketing David Gabriel:
Both the Gwen Stacy Variant Program and this month’s Venomized Variant Program were such runaway successes, we couldn’t help but try to top ourselves. And with Chip Zdarsky and Adam Kubert’s new Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man book on the horizon, the timing couldn’t have been better to put the spotlight on fan-favorite Mary Jane Watson.

Had this been a meme circulating on social media – and, thankfully, it isn’t – this would be about the time we’d say, “if you remember this, your childhood was awesome.” But, in all seriousness, if you were a kid in the 1990’s, you no doubt remember that the X-Men were absolutely huge at that time, despite the fact that they were yet to have any representation on the silver screen.
Lately, Marvel has found a variety of ways to appeal to our nostalgic sides, be it with a trailer featuring the theme song from the classic animated series or some “remastered” Jim Lee variant covers. So, it comes as no surprise that they’ve readied another round of greatness from yesteryear by rolling out X-Men trading card variant covers.

You've seen it. I've seen it. Everyone's seen it! (If not, see below). Yesterday, the mighty teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok dropped and stopped everyone in their tracks. With superheroes dominating the box office and ruling the airwaves these days, it comes as no surprise that a fair percentage of people being exposed to such characters via live action offerings will become curious and check out the source material. What may intimidate them, however, is where to start reading due to years of comic book continuity having been piled up.
Something I’ve often done is recommend that people check out their local libraries, where they can sample a multitude of definitive graphic novels for free. And, should you elect to do so, you’ll likely find one of several Marvel series to be recently recognized by the Young Adult Library Services Association (Yalsa) such as Star Wars, All-New Wolverine or The Vision.

Face front, true believers! Class is in session! Let’s call this “Doctor Strange 101”, an introduction to the newest member of the “Marvel movie-verse”, although, as you’ll soon learn, the sorcerer supreme is one of the oldest heroes. So, to get you up to speed before heading to the multiplex, we’re giving you a top ten list of facts about the “master of mystic arts”. First, a look at his lineage….
1. Doctor Strange Has Lots Of “Magic Hero” Predecessors Let’s go back over a 100 years, when magicians where a popular part of live entertainment. Many real-life stage performers like Houdini and Blackstone branched out into the printed page, starring in fictional exploits via booklets called “penny dreadfuls” which became the lurid pulp novels. In 1931 a radio show presented the adventures of the mysterious “Chandu the Magician” (one big fan was young Stan Lee). Edmund Lowe battled master...

Whenever an actor or writer/director takes on a comic book movie job, it's pretty much become tradition that that person take to social media to prove to the fans that they're taking their latest gig seriously. Comic book fans are among some of the most passionate out there, and while there's something to be said about an actor, writer, or director bringing their own personal influences to a property, fans want to know that there's a certain amount of respect going into it.
Some time ago, Jeff Goldblum was announced to be taking on the role of the Grandmaster in the upcoming Marvel film Thor: Ragnarok, and while Goldblum has more than enough respect to go around, he recently took to Instagram to show himself off getting into the thick of the Thor mythology with Mighty Thor #374.

On top of all the new releases this week in Marvel Unlimited, including the final issue of Secret Wars, I wanted to re-read a few issues of one of my favorite comics “Ms. Marvel”. Set in New Jersey, it details the rise of one Kamala Khan, bringing her from your average teenager dealing with all the pressures of being a young woman to, thanks to a cloud of Terrigan Mist, taking over the mantle of Ms. Marvel from Carol Danvers.
I fell in love with this comic from page one. Much like how Stan Lee presented Peter Parker in Amazing Fantasy #15 all those years ago, G. Willow Wilson and company present a character that anyone can relate to. She’s awkward, dealing with the feelings young kids get when they first realize others can be attractive. She has family that she feels is overbearing but she loves them nonetheless. She...

Totally Awesome Hulk #6
Story: Greg Pak Art: Mike Choi Colors: Andrew Crossley
Review: Greg Pak turns in another fun chapter in the “Chulks” life, as Amadeus experiences the fun “misunderstanding/fight/team up against villain” encounter with Thor. Last issue Hulk was brainwashed into doing something pretty bad for Enchantress and now he must make things right. The story loosely ties into the struggles Thor is going through in her own book at the moment with Malekith nicely, and I enjoyed the continuity there. Mike Choi continues to deliver some absolutely spectacular art and really is a stand out to keep an eye on, along with the beautiful colors by Andrew Crossley. The series continues to be entertaining and nice departure from the old “Hulk Smash” story lines.

Sometimes a writer can sit in front of the computer screen for hours, fingers poised on the keyboard, and – nothing happens. Not a word, not a syllable. Not a random thought, not a brainstorm. There’s not one single idea that can be expanded upon, not a hint of anything that seems at least remotely interesting.
Hmm, here’s something.
Did you read Denny’s column last week, the one about the Mighty Marvel Method? This writer came late to that particular game; in fact, I didn’t even know it existed, and the first time I heard the words “Marvel style” – another way to describe the “method” – I didn’t have a clue, though I was familiar with what a “script” was, having read numerous plays, including a whole lotta Shakespeare, in high school and college. "I've had the great pleasure of working with one of the most creative men in comics—the great Jack Kirby,” said Stan Lee, “whose magnificent artwork and wonderful story sense have rightly earned him the nickname ‘King Kirby.’ He had the ability to take any theme and make it look spectacular due to the power and the brilliance of his artwork. If ever a writer had the perfect collaborator, I was lucky to have had the brilliant and inimitable Jack Kirby."
Jack Kirby was the most important and influential artist in comic’s history.

Yet another Marvel movie deleted scene from the collector’s edition Phase 2 Box Set has been released, and this time we get to see the full version of the Vision’s (Paul Bettany) “birth” and subsequent battle with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes from Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
The original theatrical version of this scene played out much the same, but the combatants only exchanged a few blows before the fighting subsided and things were sorted out amicably. Here though, the team really goes for it, with the Mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in particular stepping up to give the android all he can handle.
More News From The Web
You could argue that the scene doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, given Thor obviously got word from those water spirits (ugh) that bringing life to Vision using the power of Mjölnir was the right thing to do – before proceeding...

Obviously the core characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe share the screen in the Avengers movies, but they also pop up from time time in each other’s solo big screen outings – all except for a certain band of intergalactic a-holes, that is.
The Guardians of the Galaxy exist within the main McU, but because their adventures are set in space, it’s a bit more difficult to have, say, Captain America drop in to borrow a cup of sugar. Then again, there are a couple of big Marvel players that could believably venture out into the cosmos; one of whom is the Mighty Thor.
While interviewing him about his new movie, In The Heart of the Sea, MTV asked Hemsworth which franchise he’d most like to see Thor cross-over to, and he replied with the following:

At New York Comic Con, I had the opportunity to chat with prolific colorist Matthew Wilson about his colors and process on The Wicked + the Divine and Phonogram, his relationships with various artists as well as get a sneak peek of the upcoming Black Widow series he is working on with writer Mark Waid (Archie) and artist Chris Samnee (Daredevil). Wilson first came to prominence with his colors on Phonogram: Singles Club with frequent collaborators Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie and has colored a variety of Marvel books, like Thor: The Mighty Avenger, Wolverine, and Secret Avengers. He recently finished a run on Daredevil with Waid and Samnee and is currently taking a break from the Eisner nominated WicDiv as guest artists draw and color this arc. Matthew Wilson is also the colorist on Phonogram: The Immaterial Girl and Paper Girls from Image Comics and Deadpool vs. Thanos from Marvel...

Number One: Bitch Planet
Bitch Planet ran only five issues. I know it’s coming back in a new mini-series story arc thingy, but nobody – not even Valentina De Landro and Kelly Sue DeConnick – have any business producing such a compelling series and not publish it every damn month for the rest of their lives. And I’m counting string theory afterlife dimensions.
I mean, look folks, characters like Batman, the X-Men and My Little Pony are being published weekly under a variety of titles. Marvel’s pumping out so much Deadpool that even Emily S. Whitten has a hard time following them all. So is it so much to ask that we get Bitch Planet at least once each month? These are two incredibly talented cartoonists. I’m sure they have lives and loved ones and such, but I don’t care. October will come and go without an issue of Bitch Planet,...

Marvel Comics
Marvel had been teasing all week that a big announcement was about to go down, and in an unusual venue – not the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con, through their website or at the end of one of their movies. Nope, this exclusive was going straight to The View, the daytime talk show hosted by Whoopi Goldberg. Speculation was therefore that the House Of Ideas would be announcing a solo title for a black character like The Falcon, but nope. Marvel totally caught us all unawares by making a totally surprising proclamation:
Thor is a woman now.
Or, the new Thor will be a woman, as the square-jawed Norse god we’ve all come to know from Chris Hemsworth’s on screen portrayal is found “unworthy” of the title (and presumably of his notoriously finicky magic hammer, Mjolnir) in light of the big Original Sin crossover event that’s happening right now.
