Goonies never say die! But we’re still interested in what else they have to say. And this will all come true for die-hard fans of The Goonies, as a feature-length documentary on the making and legacy of the 1985 adventure favorite is currently in development through a Kickstarter campaign. With less than two months until the campaign ends, none other than Mikey Walsh, Sean Astin, is calling for any remaining support there is and ensuring he’ll take part.
Posting on social media to promote the documentary – currently titled Life After The Goonies – Sean Astin wrote, “I enthusiastically support this Goonies documentary. I hope you all can donate a few bucks so it can get made. I can’t wait to participate. I can’t wait to see the interviews she’s already done…in particular with Richard Donner our Director. 8. Source Code (2011)
Have you ever considered that the most optimal way to prevent terrorist attacks is to lock soldiers into a never-ending hell? A US soldier wakes up stuck in a military simulation: he needs to find a terrorist on a commuter train before the latter succeeds, but he only has eight minutes to do that. So he dies, over and over…
You can watch Source Code on Netflix, Apple TV, and Prime Video.
7. Deja Vu (2006)
Another soldier, another terrorist attack — but this time, everything is real. He needs to prevent a bomb from going off on a ferry and killing countless civilians, and he has little time to do so. The mission becomes personal when the soldier falls in love with one of the passengers, but no matter how hard he tries, she keeps dying every time.
You can watch Deja Vu on Apple TV, Disney Plus, and Prime Video.

Space is great. It’s massive, it’s colorful, and you can have big fights with lasers there. It really does have everything you could want. But it also has problems—mainly, like we said, that it’s massive. In fact it’s so massive that if you want to go anywhere in it (apart from a few nearby planets with hardly anyone to shoot lasers at), by the time you get there, you’re dead. Now you might think that if you can just go fast enough, you’ll get there before you die, but there’s a problem.
That problem, as Albert Einstein tells us, is the speed of light. Light, in a vacuum, travels at just short of 300 million meters per second, fast enough to get from Earth to the moon in a little over a second. The thing is if you’re chasing a light beam,...

Veronica Cartwright in a 2020 documentary "LIfe After The Navigator" exploring one of her 80s films
Happy 4/20, which happens to be the birthday—same day/month/year—of both Jessica Lange and one Veronica Cartwright, the British-born former child star and current character actor extraordinaire.
When did you first clock the extraordinary Veronica Cartwright on screen? Though she mainly does TV guest spots (and the occasional direct-to-vod titles) nowadays, I can say that she made an immediate impression for me in the mid-‘80s, starting with The Right Stuff (1983), Flight of the Navigator (1986), and most notably The Witches of Eastwick (1987)...

Roger Corman's 1960 feature films "House of Usher" was the first film in a long series of Edgar Allan Poe-based movies at American International Pictures. From 1960 to 1964, Corman directed eight Poe films, with all but one of them starring Vincent Price. After "House of Usher," Corman made "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Premature Burial," the anthology film "Tales of Terror," "The Raven," "The Haunted Palace," "The Masque of the Red Death," and "The Tomb of Ligeia." Technically, 1963's "The Haunted Palace" isn't a Poe movie. It was named after Poe's 1893 poem but was in fact based on the 1927 short novel "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" by H.P. Lovecraft. Poe, it seems, was a bigger marquee name than Lovecraft, so the latter author's story was merely folded into Corman's short-lived but well-remembered Poe subgenre.

Life After The Neverending Story is seeking funds now, and will explore 1984’s The Neverending Story.
Those who’ve watched Wolfgang Petersen’s 1984 family movie The Neverending Story will know all about one particularly traumatic sequence contained within it. No spoilers, but those of us who watched the film at a certain age know the moment we’re talking about. It almost makes Return To Oz look approachable.
Still, the aptly-named film – sequels did indeed follow – was an unusual production and a sizeable hit. A German film that found international favour, and a hit single too, it’s a genuine curiosity, and also a film that still stacks up.
Well, certainly the makers behind a new documentary hope so. Lisa Downs, a British filmmaker, is making Life After The Neverending Story, and she’s currently fundraising for the film.

(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, we revisit the surprisingly dark, highly emotional, but quintessentially Superman moment of self-sacrifice in the climax of "The Iron Giant.")
Over 20 years after its release, time has been immensely kind to "The Iron Giant." A perfect example of a film creating a lasting legacy far beyond its disappointing box office performance, the groundbreaking animation effort would put filmmaker Brad Bird on the map (along with his notoriously exacting reputation and painstaking filmmaking approach) and go on to establish itself as one of the best superhero movies of all time. Not too shabby for a hand-drawn production featuring an absolute bare minimum of action scenes and a first-time director at the helm. The 1999 classic is also one of the greatest anti-gun pleas ever committed to film, so...

With the sudden passing of actor Paul Reubens after a private battle with cancer, the outpouring across the country and the world has been comforting, to say the least. Reubens will always be most associated with Pee-wee Herman, the character he created and developed when he was a part of the world-famous comedy troupe The Groundlings during the late '70s. As Pee-wee became more entrenched into our own cultural fabric and "Pee-wee's Playhouse" hit the airwaves every Saturday morning, a generation of '80s kids fell in love with him.
With Tim Burton's "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" and its sequel "Big Top Pee-wee," Reubens carved out a franchise of his very own during the same decade where the original "Star Wars" trilogy completely dominated the box office. For fans of George Lucas' space opera, Reubens wasn't just known as the lovable, eccentric children's host from television. He was also the voice of Rex,...

Actor and comedian Paul Reubens, member of the Groundlings comedy troupe, producer, writer, game show host, and creator of the beloved, whimsical cult character Pee-wee Herman, passed away on July 31, 2023. He was 70 years old. This was confirmed by various posts on the actor's official social media pages and Variety. The cause of death was cancer.
Reubens was always a warm, fun, funny, flamboyant performer who threw himself into oddball roles and comedic set pieces with flair and aplomb. He first pioneered his famous Pee-wee Herman character on stage working with the Groundlings theater in Los Angeles, developing his voice and mannerisms for often-bawdy live performances. This grew into an extended run of "The Pee-Wee Herman Show" at the Roxy Theater which ran from 1981 to 1985. By then, the character had gathered a great deal of caché in the comedy world, attracting high-profile fans who were keen to have Reubens appear on television.

Veronica Cartwright is set to guest star in The CW‘s upcoming series Gotham Knights.
Cartwright will play Eunice Harmon. She will make her debut in Episode 4 and recur in Episode 7.
According to her character description, at first glance, Eunice Harmon may seem every bit the sweet old lady living out her twilight years in a nursing home. But that grandmotherly exterior masks a much darker side, one that harbors sinister secrets and has ties to an evil that has plagued Gotham for over a century.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Veronica as a part of Gotham Knights. A veteran of some of the most frightening movies ever made – Alien, 1978’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Hitchcock’s The Birds – Veronica brings to the role of Eunice Harmon a uniquely chilling sense of danger in an otherwise unassuming package. Microsoft has officially stopped supporting its Explorer web browser, a key tool in its rise to tech-industry dominance in the early Internet era but also a key element in the government’s landmark antitrust case against the software firm.
The company signaled a year ago that it would start sending users to its Edge browser, which launched in 2015. Microsoft says Edge has superior technology, and its development came after years of grumbling by Explorer users about what they said were regular glitches as they looked to do much more than just surf the web.
In a blog post, Microsoft Edge Enterprise Gm Sean Lyndersay described his experience as an employee who’d long been familiar with Explorer as a user has been “humbling.” He added, “Our story in many ways is the story of the internet and what it has allowed people and organizations around the world to do.”

“Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth.”
That quip from Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler in 1993’s “Jurassic Park” has been immortalized on T-shirts, bumper stickers and coffee mugs ever since the first film in the mega-billion-dollar dinosaur franchise debuted in theaters. But that piece of sexual politics wasn’t in the original script.
“God bless everyone involved who allowed this to be in a movie,” Dern says, reflecting on the scene. “Because that’s what it felt like at that time. I felt like we got away with something.”
A lot has changed in the ensuing three decades, but that line still roars. And it’s a piece of dialogue that has become a central strand in “Jurassic’s” DNA. Because, after all, it’s not just men who enjoy watching a T. rex feast on parkgoers; women dig dinosaurs too. In a sign of the cross-gender appeal,...

If you grew up in the '80s, you'll want to watch "The Adam Project," Netflix's new family sci-fi flick starring Ryan Reynolds. It's a love letter to the films I watched as a kid, with "Flight of the Navigator" vibes and a plot that's reminiscent of "The Last Starfighter."
Reynolds stars as Adam Reed, a time-traveling pilot who goes rogue to save the woman he loves, then ends up trapped in his own past. It's an intriguing setup with a familiar feel, calling on family sci-fi tropes and pop culture references to conjure up the sort of retro-futuristic vibe that was commonplace in family films of the...

Slate film critic and author Dana Stevens and I share something in common. We adore Buster Keaton. I discovered him as a teenager at New York’s Olympia Theater when silent film maven Raymond Rohauer released his “Rohauer Collection,” including eight Keaton classic 20s features, from “The General” and “The Navigator” to “Sherlock, Jr.,” that had been out of theatrical release for decades. All at once, a generation of film critics wrote about the Keaton oeuvre, as if discovering him for the first time.
And I fell in love, both as a cinephile admiring Keaton’s transformation of the language of cinema, and a girl with a crush on a handsome movie star. But it wasn’t just Keaton’s balletic fearless athleticism; something sad behind his eyes drew me in. I read the Rudi Blesh biography, and learned about Keaton’s rough and tumble youth on the Vaudeville circuit,...

Here’s some exciting news for you, folks—Disney has made the bold, completely surprising decision to raid its past library with the hopes of remaking a beloved classic. How the studio came up with this idea is anyone’s guess, but we’ll just have to see how it plays out because this is truly uncharted territory for the studio. Hopefully, you can see the sarcasm in those words, as Disney is no stranger to remakes, revivals, and reboots.

Look, what little kid doesn't love the idea of unwittingly stumbling upon an advanced alien spaceship, falling unconscious and missing eight entire years without aging a day, and finally boarding the vessel to be whisked away on an adventure of a lifetime? That was my experience with the original "Flight of the Navigator," a movie that I wore out on VHS growing up and is now ready to be introduced to a whole new generation of kids with a remake from actor/director Bryce Dallas...

Bryce Dallas Howard is set to direct and produce Walt Disney Studios’ reboot of “Flight of the Navigator,” which reimagines the original 1986 film with a female lead. The new movie, which marks Howard’s feature directorial debut, is slated to premiere exclusively on Disney Plus.
The original “Flight of the Navigator” was directed by Randal Kleiser and written by Mark H. Baker, Michael Burton and Matt MacManus. The family sci-fi adventure film followed 12-year-old David Freeman (Joey Cramer), who goes unconscious after falling down in the woods, only to get abducted by an alien spaceship that transports him from 1978 to 1986. David spends the film trying to reunite with his family, but gets entangled with the police and NASA along the way.

Bryce Dallas Howard is set to direct and produce a reboot of “Flight of the Navigator” for Disney+, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
The film will reimagine the story with a female lead. The 1986 original told the story of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by a UFO and reappears eight years later at the same age, with no recollection of what happened. Randal Kleiser (“Grease”) directed, and it was written by Mark H. Baker, Michael Burton and Matt MacManus.
The film, although distributed by Disney, was produced and financed by now defunct company Producers Sales Organization. Disney tried to remake the film in 2009 with Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly attached to pen the script, but Disney lost the rights to Lionsgate in the 2010s. However, the studio couldn’t get the project off the ground, so it reverted back to Disney.
John Swartz and Justin Springer are also producing.

Disney Studios is developing a reimagining of its 1986 sci-fi live action feature Flight of the Navigator with a female lead, a project that Bryce Dallas Howard is attached to direct and produce for Disney+.
The original movie, starring Joey Cramer, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Veronica Cartwright, follows a boy who travels eight years into the future from 1978 and has an adventure with an intelligent, wisecracking alien ship, named Max. Paul Reubens provided the voice of Max in the film which was released in late July 1986 grossing an uninflated $18.6M at the domestic B.O. Randal Kleiser, who had directed Paramount’s big hit Grease, and The Blue Lagoon, directed the original Flight of the Navigator off a screenplay by Michael Burton and Phil Joanou.

To celebrate the release of Life After The Navigator, the new documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Lisa Downs, we sat down with the star and director of Disney’s classic sci-fi adventure, Flight of the Navigator.
First released in 1986, the film was directed by Randal Kleiser (Grease) and starred Joey Cramer as David Scott Freeman, a young man who awakens after falling into a ravine to discover that eight years have passed. In their investigations, NASA and the government find an alien spaceship crashed landed and that, somehow, is intertwined with David and his disappearance.
While the film wasn’t a huge box office success on its initial release, it has endured to become one the most beloved films of its kind of the 1980s. We spoke to Kleiser and Cramer about the film, its legacy and continued impact through DVD, Blu-ray, and now Disney+, and their lives after the film.

Paramount’s plan to tell you more, tell you more about the crucial amorous 1950s-set teen backstory to its iconic 1978 musical, Grease, appears to be coming to fruition. The project, a prequel movie titled Summer Lovin’, went into development last year and has just procured a director in Brett Haley.
Summer Lovin’ is officially moving forward with Haley in the director’s chair, reports Deadline. A surging indie talent for whom the film will serve as a potential mainstream breakthrough, Haley will work off a script by Leah McKendrick, a surging talent poised to break out in her own right. They will be joined here by producers in Temple Hill and Picturestart. Interestingly, the report points to studio enthusiasm strong enough for the project to serve as a potential franchise-launcher.

For many reasons, the idea of being alien or feeling like one is certainly attractive for a storyteller. Given a person’s biography, we have all been through times, especially when we were young, which have not only made us aware of the changes in the world around us, but also how we have changed. Transitioning from one state into the other, the idea of change as a constant in our lives is both encouraging and fearful, raising questions about how much influence we have on these processes and resulting in the realization that nothing – even our own bodies – will stay the same. Keiko Tsuruoka tells a story of such a period in a young boy’s life, whose feeling of a world which has become alien to him is reflected in him meeting an actual alien.

I grew up with Flight of the Navigator. It’s always been one of my favourite movies. A family sci-fi adventure film that kinda fell under the radar to some degree and has since become a cult classic. It’s charming, it’s funny, it’s nostalgic as hell and it’s incredibly entertaining, so I was completely and utterly on board when Second Sight announced their upcoming Blu-ray release. A limited edition release with special features, extra goodies and a new transfer? Fans are very happy. I had a chance to take a look at the blu-ray release and here are my thoughts on it, as well as my opinions, all these years later, on the film itself.

We are only one week away from Phoenix Fan Fusion, formerly known as Phoenix Comic Con, and the guests and schedules are really coming together to make it an awesome year! There are pages and pages of special guests listed on the Phoenix Fan Fusion website, but I have highlighted my favorite guests below that I’ll be hoping to see!
First off, we’ve got Paul Reubens, that’s right, Pee-wee Herman himself will be in attendance. The guy who has played Pee-wee for over the last 30 years, as well as voiced major characters like Max in Flight of the Navigator, and Rx-24 in the old Star Tours ride at Disney parks has been in so many things we never even knew besides the things we love him for. I’m partial to Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, but he was also in all the other Pee-wee projects, as well as Batman Returns,...

This has been an exciting week for Ghostbusters fans! We learned that Jason Reitman was set to direct to direct a new sequel that will connect to the first two original films. Then we got an awesome teaser trailer that got us even more pumped up!
Well, now things have seemed to take a turn that maybe some fans aren’t going to initially like to hear. It was previously reported that the director has already started testing teenagers to fill four mystery roles in the movie. Now a new rumor tells us how old these teenagers will be.
I initially thought the ages would range from 16 to 19, but according to this report, the age range is from 12 to 13. The characters will consist of two boys and two girls. This news comes from two separate sources… Birth.Movies.Death. and We Got This Covered. So, there might actually be some truth to this.
