Kolkata, Jan 5: Noted Bengali screen and stage actor Haradhan Bandopadhyay, who had starred in many celluloid classics of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, passed away Saturday after a brief illness. He was 86 and is survived by his wife and two sons.
Bandopadhyay died in a city hospital where he was being treated for pneumonia.
Bandopadhyay had featured in celebrated films like "Mahanagar", "Sakh a Prasakha", "Sonar Kella" and "Jai Baba Felunath", directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ray.
Bandopadhyay, who was active till very recently, also acted in Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer 'Barfi!', directed.

Bandyopadhyay acted in sixty-six films in his acting career spanning six decades. He worked with Satyajit Ray in films like Mahanagar (1964), Kapurush (1965), Sonar Kella (1974) and Joi Baba Felunath (1979).

Mumbai, March 22: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has sent out a congratulatory note to actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who has been selected for India's highest film honour - the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2012.
"Soumitra Chatterjee gets the Dada Saheb Phalke Award... congratulations Soumitra da... such a magnificent journey in cinema," Amitabh tweeted.
The Bengali actor made made his debut in 1959 with Satyajit Ray's "Apur Sansar". He went on to feature in Ray's classics like "Sonar Kella", "Charulata", and "Ghare Baire".
