• This must be one of the most underrated US movies of all time. The long funeral sequence is one of the most moving ever filmed.

Of course, it could never be made now, but in one hundred years time, when all this nonsense has disappeared, it will be held up as a truly great film. Winninger's sermon at the church is a wonderful acting lesson. Arleen Whelan is perfectly cast as the innocent gradually realising who she really is. And there's some very good cameos from Ludwig Stossel (he played Mr. Leuchtag, who is leaving Europe for America with his wife in Casablanca) and of course Stepin Fetchit. Watch and enjoy.
