It's 1939 Singapore. Frank Buck (Bruce Boxleitner) is a big game trapper. He brings them back alive for zoos, circuses, and other collectors. Ali (Clyde Kusatsu) is his No1 boy. Gloria Marlowe (Cindy Morgan) is the new US Consul. His friend H. H. (Ron O'Neal) is the Sultan of Johore. They often gather at the Raffles Hotel Bar. There is a missing agent with Japanese secret invasion plans. Gloria enlists Frank's help. The Japanese recruit the underworld kingpin G. B. Von Turgo.
After the success of Indiana Jones a year earlier, the networks brought in a couple of this type of adventure shows. I remember more with Tales of the Gold Monkey which ran over the same time. Neither would last more than a year. This one is more serial and is quite frankly a historical drama. Frank Buck was apparently a real guy although his stories are questionable. This also has 80's heartthrob Boxleitner doing his humorous cad character. I would have placed the pilot closer to early 30's in order to give the show more distance to WWII. The 1939 time is putting a limit before the show has to expand into the war. This is a cult TV show. It never gathered much in terms of an audience since it faced stiff competition.
