Beacon 23 is a sci-fi psychological thriller series created by Zak Penn. The MGM+ series has finally returned for its second season, filmed simultaneously with its first season. Based on a short story series of the same name by Hugh Lowey, the sci-fi series is set in the 23rd century and it tells us the story of two strangers stranded together at the end of the known universe at a lighthouse in space.
Season 2 picks up the story right where the first ended and we see Halan trying to figure out Aster’s fate and handle a military attack. Glen Mazzara and Joy Blake take the helm as co-showrunners for Season 2 replacing Zak Penn. So, if you loved the first season of Beacon 23 and are excited about what’s coming, we are here to keep you informed.

Why do horror villains scare us so much? Why do characters like Freddy Krueger and Leatherface haunt our nightmares in addition to our movie screens? Experts have several different ideas about the answer, with the general consensus being that horror villains function as metaphors, specifically as ways for us to externalize all our fears about society. "The body that scares and appalls changes over time, as do the individual characteristics that add up to monstrosity, as do the preferred interpretations of that monstrosity," Jack Halberstam writes in "Skin Shows: Gothic Horror and the Technology of Monsters." He continues, "Within the traits that make a body monstrous ... we may read the difference between an other and a self, a pervert and a normal person, a foreigner and a native."
In other words, horror villains come in all shapes and sizes, and on some metaphorical level their effectiveness depends on their ability...

Shortly after The Witch hit theaters, I revealed exclusively that the terrifying goat known as Black Phillip was voiced by Daniel Wahab Chaudhry, a bewitching male model who originally hails from Toronto. You're welcome, America! But I wondered: what lies behind the sensuous voice and smoldering good looks of this dark-haired newcomers? In an effort to get to know him better -- and with The Witch's theatrical re-release in theaters this past weekend -- Chaudhry submitted himself to my intense questioning about his role in the film, how he personally interprets that controversial ending and what he has planned for the future. Note: the below interview has been lightly edited for clarity. 1. How did you hear about the Black Phillip role? At the time I only had a modeling agent who thankfully knew I was studying and had a knack for acting. She lined up an audition for me...

Warning: There are minor plot spoilers below. At the screening I attended for Robert Eggers' haunting new horror film The Witch, a number of audience members giggled when Black Phillip -- the eerie Trojan Goat who houses the spirit of the Devil -- speaks to Thomasin of butter and other worldly temptations in the deep, smooth tones of a sociopathic soul singer. I can understand the reaction; the moment is jarring and wholly unexpected. But Phillip's Barry White tones are exactly right; had Eggers opted for a more overtly sinister voice, it would have felt in direct contradiction to the idea that Devil woos his converts through the powers of seduction, not threats. So who's the man behind the goat? That would be Toronto-born actor/model Wahab Chaudhry, whose only other credit is the 2013 short film The Education of Junaid Qadri. Here's what he looks like: Photo Credit: WahabChaudry.

“Dost thou remember that I love thee?”
The Witch is a searing emotional calamity of a film. Its scope is at once frighteningly vast and achingly intimate, its themes of societal violence and perversion borne out in miniature through the collapse of a desperate Calvinist family struggling to survive their self-imposed exile on the American frontier. While religious hysteria drives the sense of inevitable doom and insecurity on which the film trades, it feeds in turn on a surprising source. Love, the genuine love that exists between members of a close-knit family, and a sense of flawed but deep-seated goodness in the film’s driving personality, give The Witch its particular heartbreaking strength. Horror thrives on violations of the status quo, and this...
