Sam Raimi, the director of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy, returned to the superhero world to direct the Doctor Strange sequel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after the first movie’s director, Scott Derrickson, dropped out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe project over creative disagreements. Ever since the release of that movie, Raimi’s name has come up in rumors for more superhero movies, whether it be Avengers sequels or another Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movie… and while those haven’t panned out, here’s one that might: industry scooper Jeff Sneider reports on his website The InSneider that Raimi is nearing a deal to direct Doctor Strange 3 for Marvel.
Sneider wrote, “I’m told that Raimi is definitely coming back, which is no surprise as he really seemed to enjoy working with Marvel, as opposed to other filmmakers who have struggled to adapt to the studio’s process.

We've been hearing that Marvel Studios was in the process of developing a third Doctor Strange movie for quite some time, and it sounds like the project has now settled on a director.
In the latest edition of his newsletter, Jeff Sneider reports that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi has "all-but closed a deal" to return to helm the threequel.
In the Multiverse of Madness was met with pretty good reviews (73% on Rotten Tomatoes), and while it did prove to be somewhat divisive among MCU fans, it went on to take in over $950 million worldwide, meaning a third film was always a strong possibility.
Previous reports have claimed that Kevin Feige was eager to work with Raimi again, and the Evil Dead filmmaker was rumored to be the studio's top choice to direct Avengers: Secret Wars at one point.
Plot details for Doctor Strange 3 are still a mystery,...

A key Marvel Studios executive admitted that Elizabeth Olsen is off the table right now in the MCU.
For those who do not remember, the last audiences saw Olsen's MCU hero, she pulled an entire mountain (Mount Wundagore) onto herself at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, seemingly dying.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe - An Official Timeline book looked to confirm this back in 2022, even Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige played coy about what audiences saw. Loki and Doctor Strange writer Michael Waldron also added that her so-called death was "up for interpretation."

Few franchises are as unstoppable as the Star Wars one. George Lucas' phenomenon has been enriching the lives of the fans since Star Wars: A New Hope made its presence felt in movie theaters back in 1977. It would then achieve even greater heights a few years later with sequel The Empire Strikes Back, which is widely considered one of the greatest sequels ever made.
Since then, it has completed its original trilogy, launched a divisive prequel trilogy, and finished the story of the Skywalker Saga (for now) with a new trilogy that brought in new and old faces. In between, there have been battles with Darth Vader, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Mace Windu, Darth Maul, and more. There have been the acclaimed special effects, the Empire showdowns, and even the Jar Jar Binks of it all. And through all of those highs and lows, the franchise is still going strong today.

For a time, it looked like Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was putting all his eggs in a Rick & Morty-shaped basket. He tapped a number of writers from that series to work on the Multiverse Saga, including Jeff Loveness and Michael Waldron.
The former penned Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania before being hired for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, while Waldron was Head Writer on Loki before writing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Feige had so much faith in Waldron that he teamed with him for a Star Wars movie that never happened and even got him to replace Loveness on The Kang Dynasty. However, things have since changed and Waldron's time in the MCU appears to be over.
Despite Loki receiving widespread critical acclaim, it's believed season 2 Head Writer Eric Martin played a much bigger role in that first batch of episodes than originally reported.

It seems the majority of fans agree that Marvel Studios made a major blunder by allowing writer Michael Waldron to take charge of the Scarlet Witch's story arc in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
WandaVision saw Wanda Maximoff's powers evolve to the next level following the creation of Westview's Hex; however, Waldron chose to then take the Avenger down a much darker path which saw her cause bloody chaos throughout the Multiverse in a quest to regain her sons, Billy and Tommy.
The Doctor Strange sequel ended with Wanda seemingly taking her own life after destroying every copy of the Darkhold across the Multiverse.
It was a fairly disappointing way to end her story, though we expect Agatha All Along to clarify her status - could Wanda be at the end of the Witches' Road? - and for the character to eventually return in the long-rumoured Scarlet Witch movie.

“Heels” is now officially streaming both of its seasons on Netflix, giving the former Starz series a chance to capture a much bigger audience than it ever had before.
In an interview with Variety, series creator Michael Waldron joked that he and the show’s team would frequently discuss what it would be like if the show had debuted on Netflix originally.
“We often said, ‘Well, s–t, if we were on Netflix, everybody would be watching this thing!” Waldron said. “And now it’s kind of like, alright, the universe called our bluff.”
“Heels” premiered on Starz in 2021, with the second season dropping in 2023 before it was canceled along with several other Starz shows. The series follows the Duffy Wrestling League (Dwl), a struggling pro wrestling promotion in a small town in Georgia run by Jack Spade (Stephen Amell). It's long been known that "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" underwent some behind-the-scenes changes when original director Scott Derrickson departed in 2020, to be replaced by Sam Raimi. What those changes were, though, and indeed what Derrickson had planned in the first place, remained unclear... until, it seems, now.
"X-Men '97" creator and former showrunner Beau DeMayo has shared details on X/Twitter. Apparently, big changes were made during rewrites to the Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), turning her from supporting hero to villain.
Recap time: Wanda — once an Avenger — went a little mad with grief after Thanos (Josh Brolin) murdered her android lover Vision (Paul Bettany) back in "Avengers: Infinity War." In Disney+ series "WandaVision," she let loose her reality-warping powers to another level, brainwashing the town of Westview, New Jersey to make an idyllic sitcom-life for herself and a magical facsimile of Vision. "Multiverse of Madness" carries on from there,...

We often share leaks and rumours here on ComicBookMovie.com and appreciate that some of you...well, you don't buy them! That's fair enough but there have now been many occasions where they're proven correct. Other times, not so much, of course.
Earlier this week, we shared a breakdown of an early version of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from leaker @MyTimeToShineH. Sharing a link to our post, former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo confirmed it was correct and shared additional context.
How's that for a reliable source?
"Correct. Og drafts did her justice," he said of the Scarlet Witch. "Wanda was with Strange recovering after Westview, feeling bad about what she did. She helps him, Wong and Chavez (who she tutors) beat Nightmare across Multiverse, where she also sees her variants happy with her kids."

Original plans called for Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson to return for the sequel. The 2016 movie boasted visuals unlike anything we'd seen in the MCU before and delivered a clever final act which, while still heavy on VFX, played around with the concept of time in a way that largely bucked the trend of Marvel Studios' expected VFX-dominated third act battles.
Unfortunately, creative differences led to Derrickson parting ways with Marvel Studios. Fans didn't have long to be disappointed, though, as Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi was soon enlisted to replace him. Loki writer Michael Waldron also came on board to rewrite Jade Halley Bartlett's (Miller's Girl) screenplay...and was still writing when cameras were rolling.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was certainly one of the more odd films from Marvel’s recent difficult years. Even though the first film did excellently well, and the sequel featured the beloved Wanda Maximoff, the 2022 film ended up being disappointing in a completely new way for audiences.

Rather than hating on new characters or disliking the concept of a show, fans were upset at the franchise for the way that they dealt with fan-favorite characters like the Scarlet Witch and Steven Stange. One of the most frustrating points in the film was also the fate of Maximoff by the end.
The fact that after everything she went through over the years, Marvel decided to kill off Wanda rather than help her get back on her feet made more than a few angry.

With recent starring roles in disaster movie blockbuster Twisters, cool-as-you-like Richard Linklater joint Hit Man, and Sydney Sweeney rom-com Anyone But You, Glen Powell is one of the most instantly recognisable stars in Hollywood right now. The actor, who was a master of disguise in Richard Linklater’s comic feature “Hit Man” on Netflix, is playing hotheaded quarterback Russ Holliday, who in “Tootsie”-esque twist, is forced to go under cover as the affable Chad Powers to keep playing football.
Powell and Waldron cowrote the pilot. Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, Perry Mattfeld, Wynn Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez and Quentin Plair costar.

The actor, who was a master of disguise in Richard Linklater’s comic feature “Hit Man” on Netflix, is playing hotheaded quarterback Russ Holliday, who in “Tootsie”-esque twist, is forced to go under cover as the affable Chad Powers to keep playing football.

As teased in the full first-look image, below, Powell is unrecognizable with his disguise as the titular character. Disney/Daniel Delgado The Top Gun: Maverick alum isn’t a stranger to transformations though, especially fresh off of his Netflix film Hit Man, which he wrote with director and pal Richard Linklater. Glen Powell is the big man on campus once again.
After starring as a college student in “Everybody Wants Some!!” and later as a college professor in “Hit Man,” both directed by Richard Linklater, Powell is now going quasi-undercover as a college quarterback for Hulu comedy series “Chad Powers.”
Powell, who recently co-wrote “Hit Man” with Linklater, is the co-creator, co-writer, executive producer, and lead star of “Chad Powers,” which is inspired by Eli Manning’s former sketch series. Powell co-created the half-hour Hulu comedy with Michael Waldron, who also executive produces. Powell and Waldron co-wrote the pilot episode.
The logline reads: “When bad behavior nukes hotshot Qb Russ Holliday’s college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.”
And the Chad Powers look includes Powell donning a prosthetic to be eerily similar to his “Top Gun” co-star and public mentor Tom Cruise.

“Heels” has set its Netflix launch date.
The streamer announced Wednesday that the Starz series, which was canceled after two seasons in September 2023, will become available on Netflix on Sept. 15. Both seasons of the series will drop on that date. Netflix had previously announced in April that it had licensed the series. “Heels” aired its first season on Starz in 2021, with the second season following in 2023.
That is good news for fans of the show, which followed the professional wrestlers of the Duffy Wrestling League, a small independent promotion in Georgia. Jack Spade (Stephen Amell) inherited the league from his father and now struggles to keep it afloat while also trying to take it to the next level.
The series also starred Alexander Ludwig, Chris Bauer, Mary McCormack, Kelli Berglund, Allen Maldonado, Trey Tucker, Robby Ramos, Alice Barrett Mitchell, Roxton Garcia, David James Elliott, Joel Murray, and Cm Punk. Mike O’Malley,...

“Netflix is very practical,” EP/Showrunner Mike O’Malley told EW, which first broke the news about the premiere date. “If a lot of people watch the show, then there’s a real chance that we can make more. When Marvel Studios introduced Kang (a.k.a. He Who Remains) in Loki, it felt like the MCU was about to get an even greater big bad than Thanos.
However, the studio made a major misstep by adding his most well-known Variant, Kang the Conqueror, to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. In the movie, the Kang we expected to be the Multiverse Saga's endgame was soundly beaten by the title heroes. Then, to make matters worse, rising star Jonathan Majors was dropped from the role after a well-publicised domestic abuse trial.
Marvel Studios has since decided to move on from Kang and will instead focus on Doctor Doom in the next Avengers movies. Since The Kang Dynasty (now titled Doomsday) was announced two years ago, a lot has been revealed about what it would have looked like and we've rounded up everything you need to know here.

Marvel Studios appears to have scrapped plans for Kang the Conqueror to be the Multiverse Saga's big bad, instead pivoting to Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday (which had been announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2022) and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Variety has spoken to several inside sources and confirmed that Joe and Anthony Russo will earn a whopping $80 million between them for helming both Avengers movies. As for Downey, he'll be making "significantly more" when he suits up as the evil Victor Von Doom.

“Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” has been retitled with a full-tilt pivot. The next Avengers films will be “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” and they will both be directed by the Russo Brothers.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo are uniting with Marvel Studios once again to helm the next superhero team-up feature. On Saturday evening, they made their return official by taking the stage at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H to thunderous applause.
“When we directed ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ we really believed it was the end for us in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Joe Russo to the crowd. “That four-movie run was incredible, and it left us creatively spent.” However, in the time since, the duo found a “very special story” that convinced them to come back. In fact, “it’s the biggest story that Marvel comics ever told. It’s the reason that Anthony and I are standing up here.

Before that, we recap the biggest names that were rumored or confirmed at some point to lead Marvel Studios’ two-part finale for The Multiverse Saga.
Joe and Anthony Russo
Last week, it was reported that Joe and Anthony Russo are in early talks to suit up again for Marvel directorial duties. Fans saw this as a positive development since the duo was the driving force behind (arguably) peak MCU: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame.
However, Marvel exec Kevin Feige quickly clarified the news: “I can’t comment on it except...

When Marvel Studios announced the next Avengers movies at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, the plan was for them to both be released in the same year, with the first instalment titled The Kang Dynasty and the Multiverse Saga's finale dubbed Secret Wars.
A lot has changed since then, including a major mishandling of Kang in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Jonathan Majors' legal issues which resulted in him being fired from the role.
As a result, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty has lost its title and original writer Jeff Loveness and, while Michael Waldron was then thought to be penning both movies, we've since learned he may no longer be involved either.
Now, as rumours swirl about the Russo Brothers returning to Marvel Studios to helm both instalments, The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez has dropped some pretty strong hints on social media that Avengers vs. X-Men will be announced...

Charlize Theron starred as the immortal mercenary Andy in Netflix’s The Old Guard in 2020. The critical acclaim and popularity of the film resulted in the streamer greenlighting a sequel, The Old Guard 2. The sequel film completed filming in 2022, but a delay in post-production work halted the film’s progress. Theron is confident in the project and shared that it would soon hit the screens.

The Old Guard 2 is one film that the actress looks forward to in her future filmography. It is also possible that the films could be made into a trilogy, with the second film leaving scope for a third potential film. Interestingly, she has less hope for her Marvel return as she revealed that she hadn’t gotten a call from the studio.

Yesterday evening, the news broke that the Russo Brothers are in talks with Marvel Studios to direct Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Now, Jeff Sneider has shared what he's heard about the situation on The Hot Mic podcast. It sounds like Joe and Anthony approached Marvel Studios first, only to be turned down because the studio was already in talks with other filmmakers.
We know Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy was being eyed to helm Avengers 5 at one point but is thought to have passed so he can focus on other projects, including a Star Wars movie.
Believe it or not, it seems no one wanted the job of helming the next Avengers movies. Why? Well, because getting them wrong would be akin to career suicide! Marvel Studios, unable to find anyone, then returned to the Russos with an offer (it's likely an official announcement will be made...

Anthony and Joe Russo, the directorial team responsible for Marvel’s biggest box office hits, are reportedly in talks to return to helm the upcoming Avengers films.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. The BBC brought Russell T Davies back to steer the Doctor Who ship, and now it seems Marvel has a similar game plan.
According to Deadline, Marvel is in talks with Anthony and Joe Russo to return to helm the upcoming Avengers sequels. The directorial duo are responsible for the one of the best Marvel films, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the biggest box office success in film history, Avengers: Endgame. So it makes sense Marvel might want a safe pair of hands to guide them through an increasingly tumultuous time (there were rumours earlier this month that Marvel initially turned down the Russos’ previous offer to direct an Avengers sequel).

Joe and Anthony Russo, who propelled “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame” to stratospheric box office heights, may return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The filmmaking brothers are in early talks to direct 2026’s “Avengers” movie (formerly titled “The Kang Dynasty”) and 2027’s “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which will conclude the Multiverse Saga of the MCU. The films will presumably be connected, à la the two-part story of 2018’s “Infinity War” and 2019’s “Endgame.”
A spokesperson for Agbo, the Russos’ production company, declined to comment.
Marvel Studios had been looking for filmmakers to tackle the ambitious back-to-back tentpoles after Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) departed “Kang Dynasty” in 2023. “Deadpool & Wolverine” director Shawn Levy was offered the gig but apparently passed on the projects. “Loki” creator Michael Waldron was recently hired to write the screenplay for “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” while “Secret Wars” doesn’t...
