Exclusive: Paramount+ With Showtime’s Yellowjackets has added Hilary Swank to its Season 3 cast. The two-time Oscar winner will be a recurring guest star on the upcoming season, which is currently filming in Vancouver. I hear there is an option for her to become a series regular should the hit series get a fourth season.
Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets is the saga of a team of talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.

On Sept. 1, Netflix shared some good news with its subscriber base. It announced that the first season of the popular Showtime horror-thriller series Yellowjackets would be coming to the streaming platform in October. We definitely didn't see this coming, but we couldn't be more excited. Yellowjackets season 1 is slated to land on Netflix on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024.
Recently, we've seen the release of several Showtime series on Netflix. For example, the streamer added the anthology drama series Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, the drama miniseries Patrick Melrose and the legal drama series Your Honor to its platform in May 2024. Then, in June, we saw the addition of all eight seasons of the hit crime drama series Dexter on Netflix. So, it's not totally surprising that the streaming giant decided to acquire the streaming rights to yet another Showtime series.

There’s an old rule in TV that when a show becomes a hit, you’re going to see copycats. So when Lost exploded onto TV screens as a monster success in 2004, it’s no shock that networks were quick to copy it. Sadly, too many of these would-be clones couldn’t come close to Lost’s success, failing to make their mythology or storytelling compelling enough for viewers and the majority didn’t last one season.
Yet there are a number of shows that can appeal to Lost fans. Most are pretty blatant in the setup of folks traveling and somehow trapped in a strange place. Others utilize some great mythology and are backed by a terrific cast to work well. With Lost on Netflix again, it’s time to enjoy the best of shows inspired by it, and these 15 shows definitely appeal to anyone who loves Lost’s unique storytelling style.

[This story contains spoilers from Fallout and Yellowjackets.]
As Ella Purnell was in the middle of shooting her future hit series Fallout, she found herself pining away for the circle of friends she had formed by way of her previous hit series, Yellowjackets. The English actor had joined the Showtime series knowing full well that her starring role as Jackie Taylor, the captain of the Yellowjackets soccer team, would conclude with her dramatic death in the season one finale. But as Purnell bonded more and more with her fellow Yellowjackets actors, her one-season role, initially a selling point, became less appealing. So she tried to reverse course and prolong her stay in the inhospitable wilderness where the desperate teenage characters have to resort to cannibalism as a means of survival.
“I was like, ‘It’s only a one-year deal. I’m not locked into a seven-year contract.’ So, at the time, that seemed really appealing.

Canadian director Louise Archambault’s latest work, Irena’s Vow has a fascinating real-life story at the center of it. It is about a young Polish woman going out of her way to save the lives of as many as twelve Jews during the Second World War. But the execution of it is extremely basic. Naturally, the result is another war-drama movie that is decent at best and completely rests on the shoulders of its lead performer, Sophie Nelisse. Well, I have to say Nelisse makes it work by being truly fantastic in the role of Irena. While Irena’s Vow fails to be anything other than a biopic filled with tropes, it does throw you a surprise by casting Dougray Scott as a Nazi officer. I have an affinity for the actor thanks to his villainous turn in Mission: Impossible 2, which was released almost a quarter century ago; since then,...

Actress Sophie Nelisse opened up her experience portraying Irena Gut in the drama Irena’s Vow in her new uInterview.
Irena’s Vow chronicles the real-life experience of Irene Gut Opdyke, a Polish nurse who gained international recognition for helping Polish Jews during World War II when she risked her life to save a dozen Jews in a German army major’s own home.
Nelisse, a star of the hit TV series Yellowjackets, remembered the preparation that went into perfecting her portrayal of the heroine. “There was a lot of research that came into play because obviously, Irena was a real-life woman,” she told uInterview founder Erik Meers. “I, first of all, had to do a lot of Polish accent work – I worked with a dialect coach to lock down the accent, and then worked to find a lot of archives about Irena – some photos, videos online of her in her 60s,...

Quebec’s recent domestic box office charmers “One Summer” and “Ru” lead Canada’s diverse acquisition slate of 17 features — many coming off strong, award-speckled festival runs — screening for buyers at the Berlinale’s European Film Market.
More than half the 20 Canadian titles screening across the EFM and festival are Quebec productions, a ratio that reflects the resilience of the province’s film industry, not to mention the next wave of filmmaking talent and the return of Quebec audiences to cinemas.
“Ru,” an adaptation of Vietnamese-born Canadian novelist Kim Thúy’s prize-winning, widely translated 2009 novel, is nearing the $2 million mark in Canada and is the latest in a string of Quebec films to earn more than $1 million at the domestic box office in 2023.

Fans of supernatural cannibal drama Yellowjackets are facing a long wait for season 3 which won’t grace our screens until 2025 now.
In 2023, Hollywood came to a standstill for several months while writers and actors went on strike for better terms and conditions. The effects of those strikes are still being felt.
Yellowjackets is one of the many shows that faces a long delay in getting a new season out. Showtime’s drama aired its second season earlier in 2023, which ended on a pretty shocking note – you’ll have to watch the series to find out exactly what that note was.
Deadline now reports that Yellowjackets season 3 is looking at a 2025 release. The pre-production of the new season was interrupted by the writers’ strike just one day in, and writing only got back underway in September 2023.
The series follows a girls football team that find themselves stranded in the woods after a plane crash.

Following the writers and actors strikes that delayed production for most scripted series, the writers room for the Showtime psychological thriller reopened in September. Pre-production for the series was shut down just one day after the WGA strike began last May.

“Yellowjackets” showrunners Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco gave an update on the status of Season 3 during a Q&a for SAG-AFTRA nomination committee members on Wednesday night.

The Yellowjackets will probably be literally hungry for quite some time, but the people who play them may not be for much longer, figuratively. Dan Gordon, a 56-year member of the Writers Guild of America and reserve captain for the Israeli Defense Forces, published an open letter on Tuesday resigning from the union over its failure to condemn the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7.

Hollywood stars can’t be very chatty amid the SAG-AFTRA strike. But the actors at TIFF — those whose projects have received waivers from the union to publicize their projects — have never looked better. At least that’s what you take away from TIFF’s own portrait studio, powered by Canon, where actors joined with directors to strike some stunning poses.
IndieWire partnered with TIFF to capture exclusive photos of 20 of the directors and performers who stopped by the studio, located at the Fairmont Royal York. Photographer Norman Wong adopted for a striking black-and-white aesthetic.
There’s certainly no denying TIFF managed an A-list guest list. Leading Black voices in film, including Ava DuVernay and Spike Lee, stopped by alongside some of the foremost faces in television, from “Yellowjackets” star Sophie Nélisse to “Succession” icon Hiam Abbass. First-time director Finn Wolfhard appeared to promote his next-generation slasher, “Hell of a Summer.

When Canadian director Louise Archambault shot her Holocaust drama Irena’s Vow — about a young woman’s heroism in hiding Polish Jews from Nazi occupiers – she faced present-day obstacles during production in Poland.
Archambault witnessed a makeshift refugee camp filled with Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion of their country next to her hotel in Warsaw, and had to navigate a security cordon as U.S. President Joe Biden stayed in that same hotel in March 2022.
“I just wanted to go into my hotel room and I couldn’t get through because of so much security,” Archambault recalled after returning to her hotel after a morning of scouting new locations for Irena’s Vow, only to encounter vigilant Secret Service agents as she waved her room key card.
And visiting Warsaw’s main train station, which at the time was a major pit stop for millions of Ukrainian refugees, brought home the horrors of the Russian invasion.

By winning the TV academy’s favor last year as the star of “Euphoria,” 26-year-old Zendaya, who had previously been lauded for the same drama series in 2020, set a new record as the all-time youngest recipient of multiple lead acting Emmys. Her historic turn in the episode “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird” added up to a whopping 41 minutes of screen time, which accounted for 76% of the mid-season installment. Now that she is once again out of the running, six other actresses with comparatively lower screen time totals are gunning for the gold.
Those who make up the current Best Drama Actress lineup (which includes one 2022 nominee and a former winner) have submitted episodes in which they appear for an average of 21 minutes and 56 seconds, or 39.44%. This data was compiled using a simple definition of stand-alone screen time, which applies to any time a particular actor can be seen on screen or heard off screen.

There’s a reason that there are so many films about the Holocaust. The attempted conquest of Europe and the whole world by the Nazis resulted in millions of innocent lives lost and countless others irreversibly altered. Fortunately, there were more than a few people who made the brave decision to stand up for those who couldn’t advocate or fight for themselves. These stories typically make for poignant cinematic tales. The latest is Irena’s Vow, which stars Sophie Nélisse as a Polish nurse who risked her life to safeguard a group of Jews…
Like La Rafle, The Zookeeper’s Wife, and A Hidden Life, this film centers on someone who was not Jewish but who found herself significantly disenfranchised when the Nazis invaded her country...

In Eastern Poland in 1939, Irena Gut (Sophie Nélisse) works as a nurse. She's just found out that Poland has been invaded by Germany, and her whole life is about to change. Before she knows it, Irena is ushered away to a munitions factory where she does intensive labor all hours of the day. She's been separated from her mother and sisters and is told her only chance of survival is to assist the German war effort.
Impressed by her "German" heritage (Irena is not aware of any actual German background), Major Rugmer (Dougray Scott) reassigns Irena to a new placement, doing domestic housework. There, she works under Herr Schulz (Andrzej Seweryn), who tells her she's to supervise the work of 11 Jewish tailors -- their work has been unsatisfactory, and it's suspected they've been lying about their abilities. Shulz gives Irena valuable advice on how to survive her miserable circumstances: "Look at your own two feet,...

Karyn Kusama is one of many executive producers on Showtime’s blockbuster dual-timeline drama about the survivors of a plane crash, but she also has a very singular connection to the series: She directed both the pilot and the most recent season finale. Two years ago, she was tasked with introducing the world to the group of teenagers and their present-day adult counterparts, laying the groundwork for a show full of pathos, mystery and needle drops; this year, she shepherded the death of a beloved character (played by Juliette Lewis). She called THR fresh from a much-needed summer vacation to discuss some select season two moments and what she’d like to see for the future of Yellowjackets.
