Ever since its predecessor in 2003, the Luther franchise has been a popular and well-respected storyline. In 2023, Idris Elba made his second appearance as John Luther, the incredible detective who has been locked behind bars, partly continuing the storyline of the television series titled ‘Luther’. In ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’, John Luther must make his escape from prison to continue the pursuit of his nemesis - a diabolical serial killer - and prove himself worthy of being called a detective. Idris Elba stars alongside Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, Dermot Crowley, Thomas Coombes, Hattie Morgan, Lauryn Ajufo, and Vincent Regan. Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer finds stand-up comedian Donny (Gadd) living with his ex-girlfriend’s mother (Nina Sosanya) and working at a Camden pub to supplement his failing career. When, one day, Martha (Jessica Gunning), an overweight middle-aged woman who claims to be a successful lawyer but can’t afford a cup of tea, sits down at the bar, Donny offers it to her on the house. That cup of tea will initiate a years-long “relationship” that will initially flatter Donny’s ego but later prove to be both degrading and petrifying.
The series was adapted from Gadd’s autobiographical one-man stage show of the same name, and the actor-writer lends Donny such a piercingly unique voice. Gadd narrates his own horror story with a snappy matter-of-factness, like he’s reluctant to ruminate on one stomach-churning detail for too long before moving on to the next, and a self-awareness that’s never navel-gazing.

Luther’s back. Being banged up at the end of Series 5 didn’t stop that growly genius from taking on a new case and a new villain in Bond-inspired Netflix movie The Fallen Sun. And, since most of his former colleagues were spectacularly killed in the line of duty, the man’s being joined by a fresh cast.
Dermot Crowley returns as John Luther’s former boss Dsu Martin Schenk, who’s joined by Cynthia Erivo as Luther’s replacement on the team, and far from his biggest fan. Going toe-to-toe with Idris Elba’s John will be Andy Serkis as surveillance tech billionaire David Robey, possibly the detective’s darkest foe yet.
And what of Ruth Wilson’s Alice, last seen taking a short drop off a tall tower? She’s not listed among the cast this time, but there’s no saying that wily brainbox won’t find...

Luther: The Fallen Sun is an action movie directed by Jamie Payne starring Idris Elba. With Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley.
Idris Elba is the main attraction in this thriller that mixes James Bond with serial killers and gruesome crimes: without being a great movie, it has a little bit of everything to entertain you on a Friday night and delight horror thriller lovers.
Movie Review
It doesn’t always work, but it knows how to correctly apply the rules of the genre and borrow ideas from other referential films. The ideas worked before, they work now, even if everything is blatantly “familiar” and the bad guy is not exactly Hannibal Lecter.
It has its charm, its BBC-like “British” photography and perhaps precisely because of that, it sometimes tends to drift over to the made-for-tv film side of the road, with some “easy” and not very elaborated sequences.

"He wants the world to think that his bad dream has come true." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for their new movie version of the "Luther" British crime series. It's titled Luther: The Fallen Sun and it will be getting an official theatrical release in late February before it's out for streaming on Netflix in March. Big news for fans of this show! Brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther breaks out of prison to hunt down a sadistic serial killer who is terrorising London. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther will finish the job by any means necessary. Idris Elba returns as John Luther, co-starring along with Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk. The supporting cast also includes Thomas Coombes, Hattie Morahan, Lauryn Ajufo, and Vincent Regan. This looks legit!! The trailer is worth a watch.

Warning: contains major spoilers for Save Me series one.
Save Me Too, the new six-episode series from writer-actor Lennie James, takes place 17 months after the conclusion of the first run, when Nelly Rowe’s search for his kidnapped 13-year-old daughter led him to the discovery of another underage girl he rescued from child abusers.
In the year and a half Jody has been missing, the trial of Gideon Charles and investigation into her disappearance is ongoing. Jody’s mother Claire (Suranne Jones) is struggling to come to terms with her daughter’s absence, while Nelly (James) is determined to continue the search despite friends at the South-East London Towers Estate telling him it might be time to move on.
As the new episodes arrive on Sky Atlantic and Now TV, here’s a reminder of what happened in series one.

Fans of Sky Atlantic’s Save Me have waited two years to see more of the acclaimed London-set thriller created by and starring Lennie James. Six new episodes are almost upon us, with series two due to launch as a Sky boxset on Wednesday the 1st of April.
And according to James, that might not the the last of it.
“I don’t feel quite than I’m finished with these characters,” James told assembled press at an online Q&a held for the second series press launch. (The planned London screening event was moved online due to the global spread of Covid-19).
When asked if a third series, or more stories from the Save Me characters was a possibility, James answered “yes and yes.”
“I’m putting it all together, well trying to, in my head. In all honesty, I’m not quite there yet but yes, I do...

One of the finest British dramas of recent years, Save Me was created and written by actor-screenwriter Lennie James, best known around here for playing Morgan Jones in The Walking Dead universe.
The six-episode thriller about a deadbeat dad searching for his estranged kidnapped daughter aired on Sky Atlantic in early 2018, where it became the broadcaster’s most rapidly binged series, for good reason. The writing, cast, and offbeat picture of life on a South London housing estate combined with its abduction thriller plot made for compelling viewing.
Now returning for a second series, Save Me Too will pick up the story of Nelly (James), his missing daughter Jody, her mother Claire (Suranne Jones) and the cast of friends and foes embroiled in the ongoing saga. Sky Atlantic has released the first look trailer (see below), picking up the action 17 months after the conclusion of series one.

5.3 Passenger
The disappearance of Frances Porter (Lydea Perkins) seems at first to be a run-of-the-mill missing persons case; as Morse reassures her concerned husband, Noel (Edwin Thomas) and sister, Jilly (Rosalie Craig), most such incidents are resolved quickly. Mrs Porter proves elusive, however, and Morse’s visit to the rather fabulous boutique she works at – Alice’s Marmalade Cat, which is the sort of thing Granny might have seen on her famous trip – turns up no clues apart from the identity of the vanished woman’s lover, a man named Don. Fellow sales assistant Anouska (Celeste Dodwell) also reveals that Frances borrowed some clothes from the shop to dress up for an assignation with the mystery man, a clue that will prove vital to solving this increasingly odd case.

On the 3rd and 4th of May the Empire cinema in Leicester Square will play host to the British Independent Film Festival and the Film Festival Guild have today announced the list of nominations for their annual awards.
With a keen understanding of the often London-centric nature of celebrations of UK Independent film both the feature films and the series of shorts are playing in eleven cinemas across the country over the month of May. This is a welcome state of affairs, one which the London Film Festival embraced last year with a similar nationwide programme, and it should enable the films and the filmmakers to reach a far wider audience.

Day four of watching nothing but horror films, and I still wish it could never end. Especially the shorts. Segment after segment, so many budding talents have been treating audiences to bite-sized genre treats through a large variety of stories.
That’s what I love about a properly executed short – you get all the enjoyment of a feature film, compressed down into a quicker and simpler format which saves time, offering the opportunity for multiple high points in one night. Well, let’s keep it rolling, and showcase the last batch of shorts from the New York City Horror Film Festival!
