"You pick your facades, yet?" This isn't so much science fiction, more science reality, because we're closer than ever to this technology actually existing. But it's still fun to see them play with this technology concept in a short film anyway. Face Swap is a fun short film made by filmmakers David Gidali & Einat Tubi, inspired by (and utilizing) the "deepfakes" AI technology from the internet. It's the same tech that Jordan Peele use to create his infamous Obama speech. A couple decides to try out the Face Swap service, choosing Rachel McAdams and George Clooney as their temporary "fantasy" personas. The short (actually) stars Troy Caylak, Megan Gray, and Noelle Urbano. This is another cautionary tale, of course, but it's also a mesmerizing and clever look at where technology is taking us - and some of the worrisome implications of it. First premiered by Directors Notes. Original description from...

San Diego’s Comic-Con International is the biggest event in the world devoted to genre pop culture. While the big Hollywood movies get the most mainstream press, there’s also a large, lesser known and promoted Independent Film Festival devoted to genre short films tucked away within the overall convention.
The Cci-iff, as it’s acronymed, runs completely concurrently with the convention with programming running from morning to night that includes films devoted to comic book-inspired movies, horror movies, sci-fi flicks, comedies and documentaries. There are also several panels on filmmaking sandwiched in between the on-screen entertainment.
The fest also gives out awards. This year’s juror panel includes filmmakers Steven-Charles Jaffee and Kyle Newman, plus entertainment journalist Borys Kit.
Programming blocks are broken up by genre and the full film lineup below gives the exact starting time of each short film. There’s also one feature film screening this year,...

Here's a pretty interesting short film that will satisfy your daily dose of sci-fi. After all, sci-fi is part of a well balanced breakfast. This short film by David Gidali shows some great promise. It's set 100 years in the future in a segregated Israel. The CG is a little rough, but you can really see that that there's a story to tell here. At first I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't more background. But the fact that this short made me want to see where this goes was probably the effect they were going for.
Check it out and let us know if you'd watch this movie if this was only a teaser trailer.

Why Watch? With ominous, sweeping shots of a city caged, David Gidali‘s short shares a bleak look at an Israel of the future where different cultures are kept apart. In the middle of the night, a mysterious event brings two silent figures face to face (without a wall in between them). This is the definition of simple-yet-effective filmmaking. It’s beautifully epic and conveys an idea with laser focus – stunning science fiction with a cultural compass. What will it cost? Only 2 minutes. Skip Work. You’ve Got Time For More Short Films...
