“Good Omens” has halted production on its third and final season, according to media reports.

The pause on the Prime Video fantasy series, which had been filming in Scotland, comes amid sexual assault allegations against author Neil Gaiman, which he has vehemently denied.

As filming takes a beat, “Good Omens” might undergo some production changes, per Deadline, who first reported the news. Representatives for Prime Video declined TheWrap’s request for comment.

Last week, Disney similarly put an adaptation of Gaiman’s “The Graveyard Book” — which had Marc Forster attached to direct — on pause amid news of the allegations, according to a report from IndieWire. In August, Netflix announced that it didn’t opt to renew “Dead Boy Detectives,” which is based off of Gaiman’s comics, for a second season.

The series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s book, Good Omens, became a big hit when the show hit Prime Video. This summer saw the release of Good Omens 2, the follow-up to the successful first run. Michael Sheen has become the face of the character of Aziraphale, but Gaiman has recently revealed in a Tumblr post that he originally had another actor in mind as the angel. Long ago in a time before the pandemic (2019) Amazon released a show based on Neil Gaiman’s book Good Omens. Intended to be a limited series, the show was a hit so they opted for even more. However, talking to stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen, multiple seasons were always in the cards. Despite Gaiman’s material taking up the first season, the writers plotted along much further. So while I had very limited time to be able to talk with the two gentlemen, they were a wealth of knowledge. Make sure you check out my conversation with Michael Sheen and David Tennant above. There's a lot of overlap between the "Good Omens" and "Doctor Who" fanbases. After all, Crowley is played by David Tennant, the same guy who played (and is now playing again) the time-traveling alien Doctor. Prime Video will be treating Good Omens fans to behind-the-scenes videos in support of the series’ second season, with plans to drop more than a dozen before the show returns for the new season. The first featurette is packed with tidbits about season two and features Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and director/co-showrunner Douglas MacKinnon.

“The kind of world that Neil (Gaiman) and Terry Pratchett created here, it seems to be expanding out into the world in all kinds of unexpected and truly joyful ways,” offered Sheen. MacKinnon added, “If season one was a comedy about the end of the world, season two is a comedy about the beginning of everything else.”

Season 1 of the fantasy comedy ended in the same manner as Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 book of the same name. Expectations were high for the Good Omens panel at New York Comic Con today, with fans keeping fingers crossed for any signs of a series two release date, some new imagery, and maybe even a teaser clip or trailer. To our delight, we got everything we wanted and more.

The panel guests consisted of Showrunner Neil Gaiman, Executive Producers Douglas Mackinnon and Rob Wilkins, and Good Omens cast members Maggie Service, Nina Sosanya and newcomer Quelin Sepulveda.

Good Omens series two release date

Neil Gaiman relished telling the crowd that we can expect series two of Good Omens in ‘summer 2023’. This news was later posted on Twitter, along with an exclusive new poster for the series:

It’s been nearly 3½ years since Good Omens debuted on Prime Video, and finally we a premiere date for Season 2 — sort of. Amazon Studios said at New York Comic Con today that the show’s long-delayed sophomore season will arrive in the summer.

Michael Sheen and David Tennant are back as Aziraphale and Crowley, respectively. After helping to save the world from the Apocalypse, they’ll return to solve a mystery that takes in all of heaven and hell.

Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith, Niamh Walsh and Derek Jacobi also are back for Season 2, along with series newcomers including Maggie Service, Nina Sosanya, Quelin Sepulveda, Miranda Richardson and Shelley Conn.

Derek Jacobi will reprise his role as Metatron in “Good Omens” season 2.

The “Gladiator” star plays the voice of God in the Amazon Prime Video original series, which is based on the book by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

Also returning to the series are Mark Gatiss (“Sherlock”), Steve Pemberton (“The League of Gentlemen”), Reece Shearsmith (“Inside No. 9”) and Niamh Walsh (“The English Game”).

The show, which is directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Mackinnon and Gaiman act as co-showrunners), has also added “Dune’s” Siân Phillips, Tim Downie (“Outlander”), Pete Firman (“The Magicians”), Andi Osho (“I May Destroy You”), and Alex Norton (“Taggart”).

Exclusive: Cast has been set for season two of Amazon and BBC’s Neil Gaiman fantasy series Good Omens, which remains in production in Scotland.

Reprising his role as Metatron is Derek Jacobi (Gladiator) and joining the cast for season two is his I, Claudius co-star Dame Siân Phillips (Dune).

Also returning this season in roles that span heaven, hell, and earth are the trio from The League of Gentlemen Mark Gatiss (Sherlock), Steve Pemberton (Killing Eve), and Reece Shearsmith (Inside No. 9).

The television landscape has changed a lot since Red Dwarf made its debut back in 1988. One of the more interesting developments of the 21st century has been that, thanks in no small part to shows like Lost, non-linear storytelling is now as much a part of the language of television as the cliff-hanger or the third-act twist.
