Exclusive: UK indie feature Worry Time, written by and starring Emma Paetz (Pennyworth) and produced by and co-starring Ben Aldridge (Fleabag) has wrapped shoot in London.

The micro-budget absurdist feminist thriller is a co-production between Penny4 and Paetz’s company Thaddeus. Producers are Cambria Bailey-Jones, Heloise Lowenthal, Emma Paetz and Aldridge who is making his producing debut.

The film marks the filmmaking debut of British theatre director Tom Brennan (The Last of the Pelican Daughters). The team is submitting the movie for 2025 festivals.

The official synopsis reads: “Something terrible has happened to Annette’s (Paetz) friend, Vivian, and everyone’s decided to move on from it. Everyone except Annette. She will not ‘process’. She will not forgive. She’s going to make an allegorical sci-fi film – a reflection on women’s accommodation of male dominance – whether or not Vivian wants her to. Batman: Caped Crusader is an animated pulp-noir superhero action-adventure series created by Bruce Timm, JJ Abrams, and Matt Reeves. Based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, the Prime Video series is set in the 1940s and it follows the story of Bruce Wayne newly working as Batman as he goes against several masked weirdos, criminals, and corruption in Gotham City. With DC Studios announcing its slate of new movies and series this week, it was inevitable bad news was to follow for Pennyworth.

Deadline broke the sad news on Wednesday that the Batman prequel is over after three seasons.

HBO Max released a statement about the decision.

"While HBO Max is not moving forward with another season of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler, we are very thankful to creator Bruno Heller and executive producers Matthew Patnick, Danny Cannon and John Stephens, along with Warner Bros. The third season, officially titled “Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler,” was the first season of the show to originate on HBO Max. The series originally debuted on Epix in 2019, with Season 2 airing on that channel in two chunks in 2020 and 2021. Season 3 launched on HBO Max in October 2022.

HBO Max has decided against a fourth season of Pennyworth, otherwise known as Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman’s Butler.

The streamer picked up the show for its third season, after two seasons aired on Epix. The DC origin series premiered its 10-episode third season on the streamer in October, and it ran through end of November.

“Pennyworth” isn’t exactly the same show in Season 3 that it was during the opening two years of its run on the soon-to-be-rebranded Epix. What began as a well-executed thought experiment — “What if Batman’s kindly caretaker was a Bond-style government contractor when he was in his twenties?” — has gradually morphed into something different. Pennyworth is coming back for a third season!

HBO Max announced over the weekend that the series would be moving from Epix to its streaming service with a pickup for Season 3.

It will debut in 2022 as a Max Original. The first two seasons will also be available on the platform in early 2022.

The DC origin series Pennyworthj follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon), a former British Sas soldier who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) before he becomes Bruce Wayne's father.

Season three of the psychological thriller also stars Emma Paetz, Paloma Faith, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater and Simon Manyonda.

HBO Max has closed a deal to bring DC origin series Pennyworth to its platform for a third season.

The series, which aired for two seasons on Epix, has been renewed for a third season and will make the move to the WarnerMedia digital platform in 2022.

It comes after Deadline revealed that Pennyworth producer Warner Bros. TV was in talks to bring the show over to its sibling streamer. The deal also includes the first two seasons of the Batman butler prequel launching on the service early next year.

Deadline understands that Epix will get a second window, per the deal.

The move, announced at the DC Fandome event, is not a huge as the MGM-owned cable network has been trimming its slate of scripted originals and the show premiered before the studio launched its own streaming service. It will join other DC titles such as Titans, Doom Patrol and Peacemaker on HBO Max.

“Pennyworth,” the DC Comics drama revolving around the early years of Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred, is moving to HBO Max for its third season.

It’s pretty impressive that Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, who twisted Gotham into a funhouse mirror image of the comic book source material, got invited to do it a second time with their Epix series Pennyworth, purportedly the origins of Alfred. But which Alfred? And for which version of Batman?

Pennyworth: The Complete Second Season, with Covid-19 interruptions, finally arrived at the end of 2020 and is now available on a two-disc Blu-ray set from Warner Archive. That rockblock arrived on top of the couple’s argument about Thomas’ CIA staying neutral when it comes to the civil war led by Lord Harwood’s neo-fascist Raven Union. So all told, tough times ahead for those who one day (soon) shall conceive a future Batman.

Pennyworth Season 2 is coming soon to Epix, continuing to fulfill the show’s touted remit as a prequel to the Batman mythos, notably with Alfred’s eventual arrival in Gotham City.

Having debuted on July 28, 2019, Pennyworth is the product of creator/executive producer/writer Bruno Heller and executive producer/director Danny Cannon (CSI franchise), and served as a quick reunion of key personnel from another Batman prequel series, Fox’s Gotham, which had just ended its five-season run that April. However, any associations end there, since Pennyworth is set in London in the 1960s, therefore—after doing some quick math—eliminating the notion of any continuity connection with the contemporary-set Gotham. Indeed, Pennyworth turned out to be a colorful crime series with swinging ‘60s aesthetics and a slightly over-the-top charm that’s not bound by its nevertheless-looming pre-Batman status.

“Pennyworth” may have set in motion the birth of baby Bruce Wayne — but not before his dad gets engaged to a woman that’s not Bruce’s mother.

Ben Aldridge, who plays a young Thomas Wayne in Epix’s “Batman” prequel series, just dropped a major hint about the state of his and Martha Kane’s (Emma Paetz) relationship at the beginning of Season 2 when it premieres this December… and it’s certainly not what we expected.

“I think I can say this — he comes back into Episode 1 engaged to someone else, so that’s a massive curveball,” Aldridge revealed during a New York Comic-Con virtual panel on Sunday. “It’s kind of a curveball for both of them. He didn’t expect that either. That’s where they start off, and then it all unfolds from there.”

Pennyworth now has its premiere date set for season two. Danny John Cannon, an executive producer and a director on the series, revealed the premiere date on his Instagram account -- December 2, 2020. *Update below.

As revealed last month, the second season will bring a big change to the lives of Thomas and Martha Wayne. In addition, Lucius Fox, another character from Batman comics, will be joining the series in season two.

Pennyworth focuses on the caped crusader's future butler, Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon). Ben Aldridge, Paloma Faith, Jason Flemyng, Ryan Fletcher, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett, Emma Paetz, Jessica Ellerby, and Polly Walker also star in this Batman prequel series.

Pennyworth is getting ready for its season two, and fans were given some intel on what is coming next on the Epix series at DC Fan Dome over the weekend. Fans will see the entry of a big name in the DC universe. Martha Kane will find out she is pregnant, and that child will be Bruce Wayne, the future Batman. It was previously revealed that Lucius Fox, another character from Batman comics, would be joining the series in season two.

On DC Fandome part two Saturday, "Pennyworth" executive producer Bruno Heller announced Martha Kane (Emma Paetz) has a bun in the oven in the second season. Bruce and Martha are not married yet, so it'll be interesting to see if the baby is Bruce Wayne and whether there's a shotgun wedding. Epix’s Batman prequel has revealed that in its second season, Martha Kane will be pregnant with Thomas Wayne’s child. Any DC Comics fan will immediately know just who that child grows up to become.

The announcement was made Saturday during the second part of DC FanDome.

As previously revealed, Lucius Fox will be appearing in the second season. Fox most memorably portrayed by Morgan Freeman in Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight” Trilogy (he was also played by Chris Chalk in Fox’s “Gotham”). Pennyworth will take a big (and kinda critical) step toward spawning Batman’s very beginnings, it was revealed during the Epix drama’s DC FanDome panel streaming Saturday.

Delivering the “big Easter egg” for Season 2, executive producer Danny Cannon sprung on cast members Ben Aldridge and Emma Paetz, who play Thomas Wayne and Martha Kane, the news that “Martha gets pregnant” with the baby who will one day don a cape and cowl to fight crime as a vigilante.

Speed and star-power: Those are the two clear goals for the DC Fandome virtual event on Aug. 22, which released its full schedule Friday.

Over 100 hours of content stretching across the film, TV and comic book properties from DC Entertainment will unfold over a 24-hour period on the Saturday event, including panels featuring the filmmakers and casts of “The Batman,” “Wonder Woman 1984,” “The Suicide Squad” and the Snyder Cut of “Justice League,” and the casts of TV series including “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Batwoman,” “Black Lightning” and “The Flash.”

Most of those panels, however, will run just 15 to 30 minutes in length. Announced in June, the inaugural installment of WB’s online fan festival — which runs for 24 straight hours starting at 10:00 Am Pacific on Saturday Aug. 22. — celebrates all of the upcoming film, television, comics and other projects based on the iconic publisher’s characters and concepts.

Along with The CW’s “The Flash” and “Black Lightning,” and Epix’s “Pennyworth,” the day’s TV-centric panels also include offerings from fellow CW shows “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Superman &Lois,” “Stargirl” and “Batwoman,” plus the DC Universe series “Titans,” Netflix’s “Lucifer” and more.

Production has begun on Season 2 of Epix’s “Pennyworth” series, and the origin story for Batman’s butler Alfred has added five new series regulars to its cast.

The new cast members are James Purefoy, Edward Hogg, Jessye Romeo, and Harriet Slater (“Faunutland” and the Lost Magic”). Ramon Tikaram returns from season one in a more regular role.

The 10-episode season has been shooting since January at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., where it shot Season 1. Season 2 is expected to premiere this summer.

Production is underway on Season 2 of Epix’s Pennyworth, and with that comes the announcement of several cast additions to the Batman prequel series.

English actor James Purefoy, whose many TV credits include Rome, The Following and Hap and Leonard, has joined the Season 2 cast in the role of Captain Gulliver Troy, Alfie’s former Sas Captain. Gulliver Troy is described as a “charismatic, cultured brute and a powerful man of appetites – whether that be drink, women or danger.”
