Where to Watch ‘Daybreak’: Netflix
Part of what made “Daybreak” an enjoyable season of TV is that it mostly put its zombies in the background. The Netflix adaptation of the Brian Ralph graphic novel certainly had other things on its mind: fourth-wall breaks, telestrated maps, and a few other devices noted here. It’s set in a not-too-distant world where a sophisticated explosive bioweapon has targeted adults, leaving kids unaffected (unless you count the destruction of buildings and the layer of washed-out permadust covering nearly everything in sight). In “Daybreak,” the only zombies are the former parents and teachers and authority figures, grown people reduced to muttering “ghoulies” who just amble around muttering unless they’re provoked.
If the high-school characters in “Daybreak” see themselves as the star of their own story, it’s because they’re pretty much right. But for a world without parents,...

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for an insanely wild looking post-apocalyptic comedy adventure series called Daybreak. The series is based on a graphic novel by Brian Ralph and it looks super weird yet incredibly fun.
Daybreak is described as “a genre-bending series and subversive dark comedy” and the story “finds 17-year-old high school outcast Josh searching for his missing girlfriend Sam in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits including a pyromaniac 12 year old Angelica and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs, zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.”
It’s funny because I grew up in Glendale, CA and this setting looks nothing like it. But, it’s all in good fun and obviously a very fictionalized version of Glendale.

Matthew Broderick goes from Hollywood’s favorite high school truant to a positive principal in Netflix’s upcoming dramedy “Daybreak.”
And the “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” references don’t end there, as the official trailer released Monday morning showed.
Star Colin Ford, who plays 17-year-old hero, Josh Wheeler, closes out the action-filled teaser with this drop-the-mic line honoring the 1986 John Hughes classic: “And you thought we weren’t going to have any fun with the apocalypse, shame on you.”

The 1-minute, 1o-second clip opens with a normal school day as Broderick’s Principal Michael Burr makes morning announcements and positive affirmations to the students of Glendale High School.
Then things start to get wild, as we realize that this is actually post-apocalyptic California that is more like “Mad Max” than “Saved by the Bell.

It’s the end of the world as we know it in Netflix’s Daybreak, and 17-year-old Josh Wheeler feels… pretty chill, actually. The post-apocalyptic comedy dropped its first teaser trailer on Monday, giving us our first look at Brian Ralph’s comic book series in action.
Daybreak is described as a “genre-bending series” set in Glendale, Calif., which is now “populated by marauding gangs of jocks, gamers, the 4-h Club, and other fearsome tribes who are kicking ass as they fight to survive in the wake of a nuclear blast. Following an eclectic group of survivors as they navigate this strange and treacherous world,...

High school is tough enough as it is. “Daybreak,” a new Netflix series launching next month, takes a look at what might happen if you added the apocalypse on top of it.
The 10-episode season centers on the students and staff of Glendale High School, who after an ominous and dangerous mushroom cloud, are thrust into a barren wasteland with different warring tribes trying to control life in the aftermath. As the teaser trailer for the series shows, much of the same divisions that haunted these students in a time before nuclear annihilation still stick around as everyone scavenges for dwindling supplies.
Told with a wink and a nod to the tropes of post-apocalyptic stories, “Daybreak” still keeps some of the attitude of a high school-set comedy. Part of the fun of the show seems to be watching which groups can keep the upper hand as things get even more serious.
