The co-creator and star of A League of Their Own is speaking out after Prime Video's decided to cancel the drama series despite previously renewing it.

The series was canceled alongside The Peripheral on Friday night, with many believing both were casualties of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

Abbi Jacobson, who plays Carson Shaw in the series, took to social media over the weekend after Prime Video rescinded the show's four-episode second season.

"What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much," she wrote.

"What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today."

Jacobson addressed the rumors that the series was let go due to the dual strikes.

"To blame this cancellation on the strike is bulls—t and cowardly."

Exclusive: Prime Video is not moving forward with the previously ordered second — and final — season of comedy-drama A League Of Their Own, co-created and starring Abbi Jacobson, Deadline has learned.

It joins fellow Prime Video/Amazon Studios hourlong freshman series The Peripheral, which also had its Season 2 renewal reversed.

As Deadline reported earlier today, both cancellations are believed to stem from the length of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have delayed TV production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.

In a story earlier this week, Deadline reported that there may be more series whose renewals could be rescinded or pending pickups not happen if the work stoppage stretches past Labor Day, with freshman series going into Season 2 the most vulnerable. There was a similar string of unrenewals during the pandemic.

Prime Video has canceled “The Peripheral,” despite the Chloë Grace Moretz-led sci-fi series receiving a renewal for a second season in February.

An individual with knowledge of the matter tells TheWrap that the cancelation stems from delays caused by the ongoing Writers’ Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, and SAG-AFTRA strike, which began on July 14. The individual noted that the series was originally intended to go into production this year for a release in 2024.

Amazon Studios Television head Vernon Sanders suggested that the company would be open to continuing their “A League of Their Own” series, despite its recent decision to renew the show for an abbreviated four-episode second season.

“I’m one of those people that believes that if magic happens and we get a great response, this doesn’t necessarily have to be the end,” Sanders told TheWrap. “It will totally depend on how it performs and how the cast and creators all decide they want to revisit it if they do. Weeks after reports emerged indicating a four-episode wrap-up was on the horizon, Prime Video has made it official.

The second season is being billed as a "four-episode limited series."

The Rockford Peaches are set to return to Amazon Prime Video one last time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, A League of Their Own is returning to the streaming service for a second and final season.

And it will be short.

The outlet alleges that A League of Their Own Season 2 will comprise just four episodes.

Amazon has not confirmed the renewal, but THR notes that deals are still being worked out.

As a result, we should expect a formal pickup when the deals are completed.

The road to renewal was reportedly complicated by renegotiations with Sony to lower the drama's licensing fee.

The cast also had to sign new deals because the season will be comprised of half the episodes of A League of Their Own Season 1.

While Amazon has not announced the pickup, it is set to be billed as a "limited series."

The streamer unveiled the first-look teaser for the highly anticipated series on Tuesday morning, and announced that the series will premiere all eight episodes exclusively on Prime Video on Friday, August 12.

It will launch in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The “A League of Their Own” Amazon series based on Penny Marshall’s popular 1992 comedy film will premiere Aug. 12.

Amazon announced the news via a first look teaser, set to the classic Stevie Nicks song “Edge of Seventeen.” The teaser can be seen below.

Both the show and film version of “A League of Their Own” take place in 1943, the year that the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was formed. The women’s league, a first of its kind in the sport, was created to keep baseball in the public consciousness after World War II saw the majority of male players drafted, essentially shutting down Major League Baseball. The show focuses on a different team than the one featured in the movie, in a completely separate storyline.

Set to the soundtrack of the Stevie Nicks classic “Edge of Seventeen,” Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own” teaser trailer is all things baseball: batting, base stealing and absolutely no crying at all.

Prime Video dropped the clip on Tuesday, featuring a look at “The Good Place” alum D’Arcy Carden up at bat and sliding in for a base run alongside stars Abbi Jacobson, Nick Offerman and more.

The series stars Jacobson as Carson, Chanté Adams as Max, Carden as Greta, Gbemisola Ikumelo as Clance, Roberta Colindrez as Lupe, Offerman as Dove, Saidah Arrika Ekulona as Toni, Kate Berlant as Shirley, Kendall Johnson as Gary, Kelly McCormack as Jess, Alex Désert as Edgar, Priscilla Delgado as Esti, Aaron Jennings as Guy, Molly Ephraim as Maybelle, Melanie Field as Jo and Dale Dickey as Beverly.

Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television are behind the re-imagining of Penny Marshall’s hit 1992 film “A League of Their Own.” The eight-episode series adaptation, co-created and executive produced by “Broad City” alum Abbi Jacobson and “Mozart in the Jungle” helmer Will Graham, will premiere at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival before debuting on Prime Video August 12.

Centered on the real-life all-female traveling baseball league formed in 1943, “A League of Their Own” introduces entirely new characters separate from the film. Jacobson stars as Carson, a catcher who joins a team during WWII and seems to spark a romance with slugger Greta (D’Arcy Carden).

Decades after plastering the city in mysterious billboards bearing her name and Barbie-esque silhouette, the self-made urban legend can still be found zipping through the streets in her signature Corvette, a flash of bubblegum pink on the desert horizon. While less ubiquitous than she once was, Angelyne remains a hyper-local symbol of a Hollywood dream come to plasticene life. She was famous, as the often derisive saying goes, for being famous and not much more — which is, as the new Peacock series about her argues, exactly how she wanted it.

It takes a lot to be a bombshell. Emmy Rossum transformed into busty billboard queen Angelyne for the eponymous Peacock series, premiering May 19, but the physical embodiment of the performance artist took a toll on the “Shameless” alum.

Rossum, who also executive produces the series alongside husband and “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail, revealed that she spent an average of four to five hours in makeup every day and bleached her eyebrows for the role. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Rossum also got blisters from the fake breasts and suffered tear duct issues from wearing two pairs of contact lenses.

“The physicality of the character was challenging,” Rossum told the outlet. “The body is heavy, yet it has to feel light and effervescent…I found it to be completely liberating to look in the mirror and not see myself at all. At first, it’s unnerving. But feeling lost gives way...

Fame is her destiny and Angelyne is her name: Meet the blonde bombshell behind the billboards in the new Peacock Original series, “Angelyne.” Watch the trailer for the series below.

The five-episode limited series premieres May 19 after four years in the making. Emmy Rossum stars as the titular pop culture icon Angelyne, famous before the days of Paris Hilton and social media. Based on The Hollywood Reporter’s 2017 investigative article about the origins of Angelyne (née Renee Goldberg), “Angelyne” is executive produced by “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail, who is also lead star and executive producer Rossum’s real-life husband. Chad Hamilton via Anonymous Content and The Hollywood Reporter also executive produce.

Per an official synopsis, “Angelyne” is about L.A.’s original billboard icon from the ’80s, who infiltrated pop culture and rose to fame when a series of billboards began to appear around L.A. featuring her signature curvy figure.

Peacock on Tuesday gave viewers their most extensive look at Angelyne.

The series is described as a limited series "about fame, identity, survival, billboards, Corvettes, lingerie, men, women, women teasing men, men obsessed with women, West Hollywood, crystals, UFOs, and most importantly of all, the self-proclaimed Rorschach test in pink, glow-in-the-dark queen of the universe, Angelyne."

It is set to launch on Peacock May 19, 2022, with Shameless grad Emmy Rossum in the title role.

Martin Freeman, Alex Karpovsky, Hamish Linklater, Charlie Rowe, Lukas Gage, Michael Angarano, Molly Ephraim, Philip Ettinger, Antjuan Tobias, Tonatiuh, and David Krumholtz also star.

The trailer is bonkers, delivering several twists that highlight the fun of it all.

That may sound like the mantra of a present-day social media influencer, but it’s actually a line from the trailer of Peacock’s Angelyne, a limited series inspired by a real-life icon who rose to fame in the 1980s when her candy coated image suddenly began appearing on billboards all over Los Angeles.

“Angelyne,” the series about the local LA icon of the same name, has a premiere date on Peacock.
