There’s been talk of bringing Superior to the big screen for years now, but like Nemesis, so much time has passed that many fans started thinking it would never become a reality. There were rumours about Matthew Vaughn possibly directing at one point, and while we know that the adaptation of Mark Millar and Leinil Yu’s story has been set up at 20th Century Fox, it’s been a long time since anything solid was revealed.
Today, however, it was announced that the writing team of Brandon and Phillip Murphy have been hired to tackle Superior for the studio, while Tarquin Pack and Matthew Vaughn are attached to produce.
For those of you unfamiliar with the property, Superior focuses on a 12 year old boy with multiple sclerosis who is granted one wish by an alien monkey. He chooses to become his favourite comic book movie superhero, Superior, but...

Another Mark Millar’s comic book franchise is being adapted to the big screen.
Twentieth Century Fox hired Brandon and Phillip Murphy to pen “Superior,” a comic series about a boy with multiple sclerosis who was granted superpowers by an evil monkey alien demon.
The seven issue series was published from 2010 to 2102 through Icon Comics. It was written by Millar and illustrated by Leinil Francis Yu.
It will be the fourth big screen adaptation for Millar following “Wanted,” “Kick-Ass” and “Kingsman: The Secret Service.”
Tarquin Pack and Matthew Vaughn will be on board to produce “Superior.” Vaughn produced, directed and wrote “Kick-Ass” and “Kingsman: The Secret Service” movies. He is also writing the sequel to Kingsman.
The Murphy writing team is currently writing scripts for horror movie "Transference" and the adaptation of Robert Greenfield's book "Exile on Main Street: A Season in Hell with Rolling Stones."

We finally have some news on Superior, as 20th Century Fox has hired the writing team of Brandon and Phillip Murphy to bring Mark Millar and Leinil Yu's comic book to the big screen. Tarquin Pack and Matthew Vaughn are attached to produce the movie which focuses on a 12 year old boy with multiple sclerosis who is granted one wish by an alien monkey. He chooses to become his favourite comic book movie superhero Superior, but there's a massive twist along the way, and things play out much differently than expected. The seven issue series was published between 2010 and 2012, and is the latest in a long line of Millarworld adaptations (Wanted, Kick-Ass, and Kingsman: The Secret Service). Brandon and Phillip are also attached to Transferene and Exile on Main Street: A Season in Hell With the Rolling Stones. There's no release date as of yet for Superior.

Here’s a couple of new character posters from Kick-Ass 2 to follow the new UK trailer which landed yesterday. Seems these character posters are all a little standard at the moment following the previous ones we had and it would be nice to see something a little more original. The only difference here of course is that we get a nice look at Jim Carrey all suited up.
Kick- Ass 2 stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Morris Chestnut, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison and Jim Carrey. It’s written and directed by Jeff Wadlow and Produced by Matthew Vaughn, Tarquin Pack, Adam Bohling, David Reid and some bloke called Brad Pitt.

Next Friday, September 9, Fox Home Entertainment will release X-Men: First Class on Blu-ray and DVD and in advance a few clips and featurette snippets have surfaced online, the most interesting of the bunch is this two-and-a-half-minute featurette sneak peek of Jennifer Lawrence getting her Mystique makeup applied to her naked body. To listen to the comments, executive producer Tarquin Pack makes sound like she had to get in for makeup close to eight hours before she needed to be on set where we learn it takes about six girls to apply the makeup and about seven hours for the entire process.
Lawrence is the talk of the town now as she plays the lead role in The Hunger Games, but it should be interesting to hear just what more we can expect from her and her character in the X-Men franchise... that is if Fox ever decides to greenlight a sequel to First Class.

As Matthew Vaughn'S X-Men: First Class edges closer to the start of filming at Pinewood Studios in London, a few noteworthy pieces of news and gossip have surfaced online.
Firstly, Tarquin Pack, a producer on the project and also on Vaughn's previous film Kick-Ass, offered some information about Aaron Johnson's involvement in the film.
At one point Johnson (pictured right) was said to be playing the young version of Scott Summers aka Cyclops (who was portrayed by James Marsden in the previous trilogy and by Tim Pocock in a minor role in Wolverine). But the report was later debunked by another website.
Movieweb asked Tarquin Pack for clarification on whether Aaron was playing Cyclops and he said: "Don't believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron's kind of busy, yeah."
This indicates that, at present, Johnson is not in the cast. Whether another actor will...

Aaron Johnson will not star as Cyclops in the upcoming Matthew Vaugh’s X-Men: First Class.
In fact, he will not be the part of this project at all. Or, at least, that’s what producer Tarquin Pack said in an interview, although we previously had a chance to hear that the “Kick-Ass” star was “100% locked” for the part of a young Scott Summers in the prequel. Check out the most interesting parts of the interview.
“Don’t believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately,” Pack said. “Aaron’s kind of busy” and added:
“This isn’t going to be a Kick-Ass version of X-Men. It is what it is and I think Matthew will bring a freshness to it. He has a way of authoring movies, like you see in Layer Cake, Stardust and Kick-Ass, that nuanced outlook will be in X-Men because that’s just...

I've got a long list of updates and rumors for you today and perhaps the most interesting of which comes courtesy of Pajiba, which has it from a source that Quentin Tarantino is either "being discussed or already attached as the future director of The Shadow." Should this rumor prove true it would also mean Tarantino would serve as co-writer.
Sam Raimi and David Slade (30 Days of Night, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) had previously been attached to direct the movie, based on a crime fighting vigilante who began popping up in serial radio programs and magazines in the 1930s. Alec Baldwin starred in the most recent film adaptation, a 1994 release directed by Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction).
It should be noted that an official Tarantino representative has told MTV News there is no truth to the story, but this type of pulp crime story sounds like it would be right down his alley.

Ever since a photo surfaced online showing Matthew Vaughn — who had at the time been recently hired to direct X-Men: First Class — canoodling with James McAvoy and Aaron Johnson, rumors began spreading that Johnson would be joining McAvoy on the cast of Fox's X-Men franchise prequel, possibly as Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. The rumor has popped up time and again in the intervening months, but now the truth has finally been revealed. In a recent interview with MovieWeb, First Class producer Tarquin Pack said that Johnson will not be an X-Man.
Don't believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron's kind of busy, yeah.

Aaron Johnson – whose screen credits include one-time Perfect Snogger, a young John Lennon and wannabe superhero Kick-Ass – looked set to return to cinemas as Cyclops in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. That is, until Tarquin Pack debunked the rumour in an interview with Movieweb. When quizzed about Johnson’s involvement, Pack replied:
“Don’t believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron’s kind of busy, yeah.”
Doubt was first cast over this piece of casting by EW early last month, yet rumours persisted that Johnson was attatched to star as Scott Summers, fuelled by the actor’s meetings with producer Bryan Singer, and his being photographed with Vaughn and cast member James McAvoy.
A first time father, the 20 year old inevitably has a lot on his plate. Next up in Chatroom, Johnson is also expected to reprise his role as Dave Lizewski if Kick-Ass 2 is ever greenlit.

Kick-Ass is out on Blu-ray and DVD now, so get it. The star (at least the titular star), Aaron Johnson, had been all but guaranteed for X-Men: First Class, playing the young Cyclops. But MovieWeb just found out something different.
Interviewing producer Tarquin Pack, who was promoting Kick-Ass and is working with director Matthew Vaughn on First Class, MovieWeb asked about other casting news. "Nothing you don't know about, yeah. Don't believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron's kind of busy, yeah."
Oh. Ok then.

Ok just because Matthew Vaughn is directing X-Men: First Class doesn't mean he's bringng is pal Aaron Johnson along. It was rumored that Johnson was going to be playing Cyclops but today the rumor has been debunked, he won't be playing Cyclops or any other character in the X-Men reboot.

When Matthew Vaughn signed on to direct "X-Men: First Class," many assumed that he would cast his "Kick-ass" star Aaron Johnson in the new movie. Then we saw photos of Johnson on the set of "First Class" with rumors quickly spreading that he has joined the film as young Cyclops. Movieweb has now caught up with "First Class" producer Tarquin Pack, and asked him if Johnson is in or out. "Don't believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately," he said. "Aaron's kind of busy." Looking at Johnson's upcoming projects on IMDb, there's not much there except for "Kick-Ass 2." So is the actor really busy, or is the production hiding something? Pack claims that there are no big casting surprises being planned. "Nothing you don't know about," he said.

For months now there have been rumors that Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson would be in Fox's upcoming X-Men: First Class. Matthew Vaughn is the director of both films, adding apparent credit to the rumor, and the popular belief has been that Johnson would play Cyclops. But Tarquin Pack, a producer on both films, says that Johnson is "kind of busy," which seems to indicate he won't be in the film. MovieWeb had a conversation with Pack largely about the new Kick-Ass DVD, but also talked about First Class. When asked about Johnson, the producer said specifically: Don't believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron's kind of busy, yeah. Which isn't quite "Johnson is not in the film," but is the most concrete statement we've had so far. For example, when asked recently by MTV about the relationship of Cyclops and Jean Grey, Vaughn had said, "I...

I've never been to South by Southwest. That, Fantastic Fest and Bnat are three festivals I have yet to attend. I don't go to SXSW because it happens the same time as ShoWest and Vegas is much much closer to me than Austin, Texas. I mean, how can I pass up the combination of movies, poker, overpriced clubs, fountain shows and the possibility of being arrested? Can Texas offer me that? No. Ok, maybe the poker and getting arrested part. I hear you cowboys can get mighty rowdy at the country bars.Still, it looks like it'll be a lot of fun, especially if they're going to be showing movies like Kick-Ass. Those of you attending this year's South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin this March (we'll be covering it, if you're not) have this to look forward to: Matthew Vaughn's (Layer Cake, Stardust) Kick-Ass will open up the schedule. With three studios fighting for the the comic book-adaptation movie Kick-Ass, Lionsgate ended up winning the distribution rights, much to writer/director Matthew Vaughn's delight:
Making and financing Kick-Ass has been an amazing experience, and we've had two important goals from the start: make a singularly entertaining film and find the right studio to release it. With Lionsgate, I know that I've got a supportive and fearless team behind me. It's going to be fun working together to bring the film to audiences and those who are already fans of the comic book. Kick-Ass was independently financed before Lionsgate picked up the rights. A release date is still unspecified, though Kick-Ass will open some time in 2010.
