Etienne was born in Colombia. In 1985, he arrived in Paris where he studied cinema with a specialization in editing at the Conservatoire Libre du Cinema Francais and worked in the Cinarchives 35mm restoration laboratory. In 1991, Etienne moved to Berlin, Germany where he started at the Babelsberg Film Studios as a sound editor and then was the first assistant editor of films such as The Ogre by Volker Schlöndorff (1996), Enemy at the Gates by Jean Jacques Annaud (2000), The Ghost Writer by Roman Polanski (2009) and Inglorious Bastards by Quentin Tarantino (2009), among others. Editor of films such as Embrace of the Serpent by Ciro Guerra (2015), Nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film 2016 and Winner of the CICAE Award Quinzaine des Realisateurs at Cannes Film Festival 2015, The Animal's Wife by Victor Gaviria (2016) and Silence of the Guns Documentary by Natalia Orozco (2017), the first ever documentary that opened the Cartagena International Film Festival 2017. He has been Lead Editor of TV series for Fox, Netflix and Amazon. Winner of several editing awards.
