After 10 years as a professional screenwriter, D.J. McPherson’s career has reached a sweet spot, with a hot-shot Hollywood producer attached to her first feature and a streaming platform backing her 10-part drama.
Mark Williams, the co-creator/producer of Netflix’s Ozark, will produce His Name Is Jeremiah, the saga of a teenage girl who struggles to reconnect with her estranged mother, with McPherson’s partner Jack Christian.
Filming of the TV series Did You Miss Me? was set to start in Queenstown New Zealand before the lock down as a New Zealand co-production. She’s not ready yet to identify the streamer or the co-producer.
Last November His Name Is Jeremiah won Truant Pictures’ inaugural screenplay competition.
The La-based McPherson, who is now back in Melbourne, sent the script to Williams because she loved the dark, comedic tone of Ozark, now in its third season.

“Ozark” isn’t your typical summer binge. The dark Netflix series (literally and figuratively) is the antithesis of a relaxing beach read, an invigorating vacation, or light fun in the sun. Frankly, at times, it’s hard to watch.
But it’s also addictive. As much as viewers might want to look away from some of the more challenging scenes, Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams’ drama pushes audiences to keep going, even when “Ozark” very nearly goes too far.

Gerard Butler has done it all. He’s saved Aaron Eckhart’s President of the United States not once, but twice thanks to Olympus Has Fallen and its bombastic follow-up, London Has Fallen – turns out he won’t be completing the hat-trick, though, as Eckhart has passed up the planned action threequel – battled Persians, and will soon go up against a storm straight out of the Old Testament in this year’s Geostorm.
But with A Family Man, Mark Williams’ (The Accountant) directorial debut revolving around one man’s struggle to reconnect with his nearest and dearest, Gerard Butler is set to trade action for heartfelt drama. "We're your family, Dane! You're going to wish you had this time back." Voltage Pictures has released an official trailer for the indie drama A Family Man, starring Gerard Butler as a career headhunter who must struggle with the work-family balance when his 10-year-old son is diagnosed with cancer. This was originally titled The Headhunter's Calling, and it first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. In addition to Gerard Butler, the full ensemble cast features Alison Brie, Gretchen Mol, Willem Dafoe, Kathleen Munroe, Dustin Milligan, Alfred Molina, Julia Butters, and Anupam Kher. I hate to say it, but this looks so sappy and emotionally manipulative, that it's hard to take it seriously. I'm much more interested in seeing Gerard Butler in Geostorm than I am this movie. The Accountant is one of the most anticipated upcoming movies, but it isn’t revealing a lot of details, even in the trailer. Butler plays a workaholic whose son’s cancer forces him to become a better man in this treacly drama
“Reach deep inside and feel that small part of you that’s predatory, or there’s the door,” says Dane Jensen, played with bluster by Gerard Butler early in The Headhunter’s Calling. He’ll be joined by Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina.Butler is starring as a ruthless, hard-charging corporate headhunter called Dane Jensen, who has been surging at the company he works for and is primed to snatch the top job. But then his 10-year-old son falls gravely ill and Jensen’s priorities take a major shift. Dafoe is playing Butler’s boss, the CEO who is planning to retire and hand the reigns to his driven employee. Molina, on the other hand, will be a family-focused engineer who is struggling through unemployment. Mark Williams, a producer on the likes of Flawless and Malice In Wonderland, is making his directorial debut with the film, written by The Judge’s Bill Dubuque and it’ll all start shooting later this month in Toronto.

Taking a break from his run of guns and gung-ho action thrillers and dramas, Gerard Butler is tackling something a little more low-key. He’s signed on to star in The Headhunter’s Calling. Warner Bros. has shuffled release dates for two Ben Affleck films, including the thriller “The Accountant” and his next directorial effort “Live By Night.” Audiences will exclusively see him in the Batman suit until “The Accountant,” costarring Anna Kendrick, opens October 7, 2016. After working together on last year’s The Judge, which scored Robert Duvall an Oscar nomination, Team Downey’s Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey are reteaming with screenwriter Bill Dubuque to develop a currently untitled dramedy set in the high-stakes environment of televised presidential debates.
The pic will take place during three presidential debates, where (as per Variety) “millions of dollars and months of campaigning come down to 270 minutes of highly scrutinized political theatre.”
Dubuque is scribing, while the Downeys and Michael Gambino will produce for Team Downey alongside Mark Williams.
No actors or director are yet attached, though it’s not hard to imagine Downey Jr. taking on the role of a hungry political operator, either in front of the cameras as a candidate or behind it as a figure pulling the strings. Team Downey and Dubuque jointly hatched the idea, so they’ll likely be intimately involved...

Ben Affleck is currently playing The Batman, but his next gig sees him in a role that's potentially far more prone to paper cuts - he's up for the lead in "The Accountant" at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Affleck is in talks to star in the action thriller which Gavin O'Connor is the favorite to direct (no official offer has yet been made). Bill Dubuque ("The Judge") penned the script about a mild-mannered accountant who moonlights as an assassin.
Stuck for several years in development, the project was at one time considered for a directorial vehicle for Mel Gibson. At another time Will Smith was attached to star.
Affleck is expected to take on the role before he directs and stars in "Live by Night" which begins filming in July next year. Kevin Scott Frakes, Lynette Howell, Raj Brinder Singh and Mark Williams are producing.

Rumors are not only a Fleetwood Mac album, but it’s also what has over taken Doctor Who for the last few years. With the revived series never more popular outside its native UK and rogue PBS stations, fans are eager for any news about the upcoming 7th season.
Production has begun, with work on episode 2 and 3 proceeding at a good pace, even though Matt Smith has said they’ll film through December. Little is known about the structure of this season, though anyone can probably infer a few things that have become public information. What is known is that there will be 14 episodes, but they’re probably going to be split over 2012-13 TV season. Speculation is the show will return in mid-November and air the final 4 episodes that involve Amy and Rory, and then air the fifth episode, the traditional Christmas Special on, well Christmas. The folks over at IFC have unveiled a new poster for the upcoming film 'Victim' and it's certainly turning some heads. We think it's very cool and edgy, though probably not appropriate for the office, though, what horror related product really is?
Check out the poster below and decide for yourselves. We're sure it won't be seen outside any movie theater or anything, but it's quite a unique marketing piece we thought we'd share it.
Victim is written by Mark Williams & Michael Pierce and directed by both Matt Eskandari & Michael Pierce. The film stars Stephen Weigan, Bob Bancroft, Brendan Kelly, Jennifer Howie and Stacy Haiduk.
Vague Synopsis:
What's the ultimate form of revenge? One Young man (Stephen Weigand) is about to find out. After being mysteriously kidnapped by a Doctor (Bob Bancroft) and his violent henchman, he's held captive in the converted cellar of an old mansion. For reasons unknown,...

I’ve been waiting for “Push” director Paul McGuigan to do something since “Push”, and looks like I’ve gotten my wish. Check out the press release below for his new movie “Tomorrow”, which like “Push” sounds like it’s got one nifty (albeit somewhat familiar) premise. Worldview Entertainment has teamed up with producer Mark Williams and Zero Gravity Management to finance the sci-fi thriller, “Tomorrow”, which will be directed by Paul McGuigan and star Josh Hartnett. McGuigan is a renowned UK filmmaker who has directed several fan favorites, most recently the sci-fi action movie, “Push”. Hartnett has starred in several blockbuster hits over the last decade including “Pearl Harbor” with Ben Affleck and Ridley Scott’s intense war film, “Black Hawk Down”. “Tomorrow” is a sci-fi thriller in the vein of “Memento” about a man who travels back and forth through time and space, trying to prevent the murder of his family.

We like news about Samuel L. Jackson. Though lately, most of that news also means chatter about Iron Man 2 or The Avengers. Either way, we like to see when the man picks up new work, especially when the project sounds pretty cool.
Jackson is now in talks to work on a new indie action flick titled Deathgames, alongside the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Kellan Lutz. The premise sounds a bit like something we’ve seen before, though. From Heat Vision:

Would humanity revert to the days of the wild west if the world was suddenly thrust into a post-apocalyptic future? It's certainly an intriguing possibility, and one that could make for a great movie. Post-apocalyptic films have often borrowed elements of westerns in the past, and now director Chris Nahon (Blood: The Last Vampire) will again be fusing the two genres with a film called Gunslinger (no relation to the 1956 Roger Corman film of the same name, as far as I know). Described as a "revenge-driven tale set in the near future in the snowy wasteland of a post-apocalyptic America", the story centers on two brothers who try to track down the gang responsible for the death of their parents. Josh Hartnett has signed on to star, while Mark Williams (Running Scared, The Cooler) will produce. There's no word on who is writing the script or where the story came from,...

No, that is not the face of Roland Deschain you see above, and, no, J.J Abrams has not finally decided to put his ‘Dark Tower’ rights to good use. According to Variety, Josh Hartnett will, however, be starring in a film called ‘Gunslinger,’ billed as a Western in a post-apocalyptic world. Well, that sure sounds like the ‘Gunslinger’ we’ve all been waiting for. It’s not.
Hartnett will play a man in the near future, a snowy wasteland of a world, who, along with his brother, sets out to seek revenge against the gang who killed their parents. Chris Nahon (’Kiss of the Dragon’ and ‘Blood: The Last Vampire’) will be directing with Mark Williams (’Running Scared’) and Albert Martinez Martin (’Shuttle’) producing.
