Screenwriter Rhet Edward Topham was born on November 22, 1961 in California. Rhet grew up in San Jose, California, graduated from Carmel High School in Carmel, California in 1979, and attended the University of California in Los Angeles. Topham was an avid fan of horror movies and hard rock music as a kid. Both of these passions are prominently featured in Rhet's script for the heavy metal horror cult classic Trick or Treat (1986). In the wake of Trick or Treat (1986), Topham went on to write the screenplay for 976-EVIL (1988) as well as wrote the teleplays for two episodes of the horror anthology series Freddy's Nightmares (1988).
