Liam Neeson takes his unique skill of operating a big rig like a champ to hit the open road again for a sequel to 2021’s The Ice Road. The follow-up, titled Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, finds Neeson trading the harsh roads of Northern Canada for the mountains of Nepal. That’s right, thrill-seekers, Ice Road 2 takes us to the Himalayas!
Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky features Neeson’s rugged character, Mike McCann, returning to honor his late brother’s last wish by traveling to Nepal to scatter his ashes at Mt. Everest. While traveling by bus along the inhospitable 12,000 ft. landscape known as the Road to the Sky, Mike and his mountain guide clash with Nepalese mercenaries and must fight to survive. Adding to the tension, Mike must protect a busload of bystanders and the local villagers’ homeland. Does anyone remember when Neeson was going to quit making action movies?...

Composers wear so many hats when composing and depending on what they’re writing for, whether it’s for episodic TV, film, or video games, it can be a juggling act to get the scores and themes just right. These artists painstakingly put care, effort and hours into what music will accompany the visuals on the little or big screen.
Composer Max Aruj is one such musician. Born and raised in Los Angeles, his previous release is Crawl, produced by Sam Raimi, and directed by Alexandre Aja and the video game Assassin’s Creed – Wrath of the Druids. Aruj recently composed the scores for Eytan Rockaway’s Lansky, in theaters, starring Harvey Keitel, and Jonathan Hensleigh’s The Ice Road, on Netflix, starring Liam Neeson, Laurence Fishburne, Amber Midthunder, Benjamin Walker, and Marcus Thomas.
Coincidentally both films were released on the same day, Friday June 25th.

Liam Neeson has fought terrorists, mobsters, aliens, Nazis, the British army (in Ireland and Scotland), Sith Lords, Batman, feral wolves, and the sexual peccadillos of 20th century America. Now, the hulking, 69-year-old Irish actor faces his greatest threat yet: ice. Specifically, those North American roads that form over frozen bodies of water in the continent’s coldest regions, and are less than three feet thick. Truckers maneuver these “ice roads” in vehicles that weigh up to 65,000 pounds. The likelihood of skidding or jackknifing over these slick, makeshift highways and byways is huge,...

Jason Isbell revs up Johnny Cash’s trucker anthem “All I Do Is Drive” for the soundtrack to the new Netflix film The Ice Road. Both film and soundtrack are out now.
For his version, Isbell adopts Cash’s signature rhythm and fills out the arrangement with some extra rock & roll muscle in the form of lightly distorted guitars that match the walking patterns of the original. He also shifts it to a different key to account for the differences in their range. The end result has the feel of...

The idea of marrying the reality-tv staple “Ice Road Truckers” with the suspense classic “The Wages of Fear” — about long-haul drivers trying to get through treacherous mountain roads with a payload of nitroglycerin — isn’t a bad one in theory. In practice, however, “The Ice Road” is so often inept and heavy-handed that not even the reliable presence of Liam Neeson can rescue it.
Neeson has become a genre unto himself in recent years, starring in one movie after another about a regular guy (with a special set of skills) who finds himself in extraordinary circumstances. (This latest is his second in 2021 alone.) But while the Irish actor reliably hits both his marks and the bad guys, he’s doing so in a film that’s leadenly predictable when it’s not unintentionally laugh-out-loud funny.
Some of those laughs come from the screenplay by director Jonathan Hensleigh (“Kill the Irishman”), which trots out chestnuts like,...

As if the Frozen North hadn’t already given him enough grief in “The Grey” and “Cold Pursuit,” Liam Neeson is back for more chilly punishment with “The Ice Road.” Jonathan Hensleigh’s first feature as writer-director since “Kill the Irishman” a decade ago has the star as one of three drivers making a dangerous journey to deliver equipment needed to rescue trapped miners in Northern Manitoba.
Just about every possible peril turns up to thwart their mission en route, making for an increasingly implausible action movie that will entertain most viewers, but also perhaps make them feel a bit played for fools. In the U.S., it’s going straight to Netflix on June 25, while other distributors are handling theatrical and/or online release in numerous other territories over the coming weeks.

Liam Neeson has a simple test he does to see if a script is working for him when he first reads it. “It’s a cup of tea test I do,” says the 69-year-old Irish actor. “If I get to page five and I think, oh, I must put the kettle on for a cup of tea, that’s not a good sign. But occasionally I’ll get a script, like The Ice Road, where I was able to finish it. It felt that good.”
The Ice Road is Neeson’s latest film, arriving this week on Netflix, and it continues his career’s somewhat improbable second act as an action hero. Neeson stars here as Mike McCann, a trucker who is one of several drivers recruited to transport three large, heavy drills to a remote northern Canada mine in order to free miners trapped in a collapse.

"This is personal... Now I'm angry!" Yeehaw, here we go! Strap in! Netflix has debuted an official trailer for one of their summer action movie offerings, a snow rescue thriller titled The Ice Road, made by filmmaker Jonathan Hensleigh (who was a screenwriter on Armageddon). After a remote diamond mine collapses in the far northern regions of Canada, an ice driver leads an impossible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the lives of trapped miners despite thawing waters and a threat they never see coming. Liam Neeson stars as the heroic, badass "big rig" ice truck driver, because of course he does. The cast includes Benjamin Walker, Amber Midthunder, Marcus Thomas, and Laurence Fishburne. All the marketing for this reminds me of Liam Neeson's other snowy movie, Cold Pursuit, though that one is a remake and this movie, apparently, is not. This essentially looks like Armageddon but on ice roads which,...

Stars: John Travolta, Abigail Spencer, Christopher Plummer, Jennifer Ehle, Tye Sheridan, Anson Mount, Marcus Thomas, Travis Aaron Wade | Written by Richard D’Ovidio | Directed by Philip Martin
The Forger is the latest star vehicle for John Travolta, a man whose career has had more ups and downs than a yoyo and – judging by this flick – looks set to be forever destined for the direct to DVD market alongside his Face/Off co-star Nicolas Cage (oh the irony). Of course this Isn’T the worst film Travolta has in his ouevre, that’s left to the likes of Battlefield Earth and Chains of Gold, but it’s certainly nothing to shout about.
Travolta stars as the worlds best art forger, banged up in jail with only 10 months to serve, who makes a deal with crime boss Keegan (Anson Mount), to get an early release from prison but in return he must pull of an impossible heist.

The first trailer for Philip Martin’s The Forger arrives today, along with a brand new poster showcasing the film’s leading trio: John Travolta, Christopher Plummer and Tye Sheridan.
In the movie, Travolta stars as master art forger Raymond Cutter, who makes a deal with a crime syndicate to initiate his early release from prison. As a trade, he must embark on an impossible heist; forge a painting by Claude Monet, steal the original from a museum and replace it with a replica so perfect that no one will notice. Along to assist him in this risky mission are his father (Plummer) and son (Sheridan).
From the outset, the trailer promises a gritty, thrilling actioner – in similar vein to last year’s The Art Of The Steal. As it progresses and more of the story and character begin to unravel, it crosses into unexpected territory. Character-wise, there are touches...

The Toronto International Film Festival announced more selections Tuesday for the upcoming 2014 edition of the annual awards season kick-off. The majority of the festival's program was announced last month, but this group includes intriguing world premieres from notable directors such as Todd McCarthy ("The Cobbler") and Gina Prince-Bythewood ("Beyond the Lights"). A number of the titles revealed have screened at other festivals including the underrated "Infinitely Polar Bear" and "Laggies" from Sundance as well as Cannes players "Two Days, One Night," "The Search" and "Clouds of Sils Maria." As you'd expect for Toronto, the world premieres feature some big names including Josh Hutcherson and Benicio Del Toro in "Escobar: Paradise Lost," Jean Dujardin in "The Connection (La French)," Dustin Hoffman in "Boychoir,...

When I heard about the film Kill the Irishman, I thought Jonathan Hensleigh had it out for me. I liked plenty of Hensleigh’s previous penned films, such as Criterion alumni Armageddon, along with Die Hard With a Vengeance, The Saint (even though this was rewritten to a very bare bones version), Jumanji (I was young once) and even his adaptation of The Punisher with Thomas Jane was a fun present day western, about one man’s loss and getting the revenge he believe he deserves. But after that film failed to make any money at the box office, Hensleigh fell back a bit and made Welcome to the Jungle, a very forgettable film, so much so that it was designated to Dimension Extreme’s home video line. Whoa, what a way to start the new year! After several weeks of desolate conditions in terms of horror title releases, the floodgate just burst open.
This is the week you may want to think about using up those giftcards and cash you got from returning your holiday presents. Major releases are vying for your greenbacks alongside re-releases in Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D (in case Santa brought you a 3D TV recently), and other more independent titles. In addition to movies, there's also a Buffy motion comic and the next volume of a vampire's diary in paperback.

Those who come to The Gravedancers expecting the off-the-wall, black-humored insanity of director Mike Mendez’s previous The Convent should be advised: This is a much more straightforward supernatural tale. Which is not to say that Mendez has mellowed, just that here he’s tackling material (a script by Brad Keene and Chris Skinner) which largely takes its horrors seriously. And the energy of his filmmaking hasn’t waned; back when he first announced the project, Mendez compared it to an adult version of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland, and once it gets cooking, The Gravedancers does indeed play like a cinematic amusement-park spook ride. Without self-consciously homaging the films of decades ago, it harks back to the days when horror movies had fun scaring you, yet didn’t wink at the camera or employ self-conscious humor to do so.
