“That’s the thing about older women — no one sees us coming.”
That’s Madeline Matlock (Kathy Bates) in the first episode of CBS’s rebooted “Matlock,” inspired, of course, by the iconic lawyer TV show. But this is a fresh take on the character — Bates’ Matlock isn’t a long-lost daughter of the fictional icon. No, she’s just a lawyer who suddenly has a grandson to raise and therefore needs a new job at a fancy law firm to pay the bills.
Orrr at least that’s what viewers spend most of the premiere episode, which aired September 22, thinking. But 10 minutes before the end credits roll, after the moving case of the week has been solved, TV audiences learn that actually, Matlock is a fake last name for Madeline. In reality, she’s...

Kathy Bates was ready to retire before starring on the new CBS series Matlock.
In an interview with the New York Times, published Sunday, the Oscar winner shared that after a movie shoot had “soured” — she wouldn’t name the film — she was crying at home on her sofa before telling her agents the next day that she wanted to retire.
“It becomes my life,” the 76-year-old said of acting and work. “Sometimes I get jealous of having this talent. Because I can’t hold it back, and I just want my life.”
A few weeks later, her agents sent her a script for the rebooted series Matlock. The original ran from 1986 to 1995 and starred Andy Griffith as Benjamin Matlock. The now rebooted series will chronicle Bates’ character, attorney Madeline “Matty” Matlock, rejoining the law workforce as a senior and racking up courtroom wins. CBS Releases New Trailer For ‘Matlock’ Starring Kathy Bates, Reveals Character’s “Not That Innocent”
Get ready to watch Academy Award-winner Kathy Bates as she picks up the mantle left behind by the legendary Andy Griffith when CBS debuts its loosely based iteration of “Matlock” this fall.
Airing Thursday nights at 9:00 p.m. Et/Pt, the all-new adaptation follows Madeline (“Matty”) Matlock (Bates), a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her younger years and decides to rejoin the workforce at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases.
Although the series shares the same name as its predecessor, the show makes a point to note that the Matty character shares a familiar name with the original TV series, something that’s even brought up in the first episode.

You might as well call the 2000s the decade of the parodies. You had hilariously funny parodies such as the Scary movie series, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, Superhero Movie and Tropic Thunder all come out during this time period. And we can't forget about one of the most memorable parodies of them all, Not Another Teen Movie. This film is currently streaming on Netflix, and we can't wait to rewatch it!
Not Another Teen Movie is a teen parody movie that was directed by Joel Gallen from a screenplay co-written by Michael G. Bender, Adam Jay Epstein, Andrew Jacobson, Phil Beauman, and Buddy Johnson. NCIS: Los Angeles had a great cast, with some major stars mixed in with actors who became fan favorites thanks to the show. Faces like Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J had a large fanbase prior, while names like Daniela Ruah and Renée Felice Smith made their names on the show. Eric Christian Olsen was someone between those two levels. He has now announced his next gig after the popular procedural ended.
Here is what Olsen is doing now and why it might surprise some of his fans.
Eric Christian Olsen Has Another CBS TV Show Coming
Eric Christian Olsen was a movie star before he arrived on NCIS: Los Angeles. He had roles in Pearl Harbor and Not Another Teen Movie. His breakout was playing Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd. Olsen played Jim Carrey’s character from the original movie in the prequel.

The classic TV show “Matlock” is coming back to screens next year – but with a twist. Kathy Bates will take on the lead role as a lady lawyer named Madeline “Matty” Matlock in CBS’s reimagined version of the legal drama.
Matty is joining a prestigious law firm later in life, looking to prove that experience counts just as much as youth. As a woman in her 70s, she’ll show viewers that older people still have a lot to offer. “I wanted to write a character who challenges ageism,” says producer Jennie Snyder Urman.
Bates, who is 76 herself, thinks Matty’s role is long overdue. “You never see women my age as the lead on TV,” she points out. Her character will have depth, taking on complex cases and corrupt bosses week after week.

Looking back at the project now, van Heijningen has some regrets over the way the special effects were handled on the film, and that he was never able to make the sequel they had plans for.
Directed by van Heijningen from a screenplay written by Eric Heisserer and based on the short story Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell (using the pen name Don A. Stuart), The Thing 2011 has the following synopsis: After Norwegian researchers discover an alien ship buried in the ice, paleontologist Kate Lloyd joins the team at the isolated Arctic outpost to investigate. She finds an organism that appears to have perished in the crash eons ago but, in fact, is about to awake. Freed from its icy prison,...

NCIS: Los Angeles ended its 14-season run on CBS with a finale all about “New Beginnings” (hence the title), and while it was a mostly happy ending, everything wasn’t tied up neatly with a bow. For example, yes, Callen (Chris O’Donnell) has learned quite a bit about himself over the years and did marry Anna (Bar Paly). Yes, Callen and Sam (LL Cool J) went to Morocco to join Nell’s (Renée Felice Smith) team in a mission to rescue Hetty (Linda Hunt), and we can assume that will be successful (especially with LL Cool J recurring on Hawai’i in Season 3). We know that Kensi (Daniela Ruah) and Deeks’ (Eric Christian Olsen) family will soon be one of four, with her pregnant. But what about the storylines that weren’t wrapped up or the callbacks we didn’t get (like we did with Switch and Mr. Carl? “We...

NCIS: Los Angeles ended its 14-year run with a series finale, titled “New Beginnings,” that delivered happiness and left quite a bit up in the air about the future. For Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) and Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), whose journey to parenthood hasn’t been easy (remember back when the top of kids first came up?), she found out she’s pregnant just before Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Anna’s (Bar Paly) wedding. Here, Ruah opens up about Kensi’s ending and more. After how tough the journey to parenthood has been for Kensi and Deeks, it was so great to see them so happy this past year, with Rosa (Natalia Del Riego), now the pregnancy… When did you know this was going to be part of Kensi’s ending? Daniela Ruah: I had heard some rumors that that is what they were thinking about adding for Kensi at the end,...

This article contains spoilers for the “NCIS: Los Angeles” series finale.
“NCIS: Los Angeles” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill’s goal with the series finale on Sunday, May 21 was to give the characters of the long-running CBS procedural as happy an ending as possible.
“It really was about trying to find a way to wrap up the series that would leave the fans feeling hopeful for the future of all our characters. And so we gave everyone what we figured was their version of happily ever after… at least for the time being,” he told TheWrap in a recent interview.
To that end, in the final episode, Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and Anna (Bar Paly) tie the knot in an impromptu ceremony attended by the rest of the team — except for Hetty (Linda Hunt), who sends a congratulatory note.

It was back in May 2009 that viewers first met the Office of Special Projects, as part of a backdoor pilot on NCIS. That September, NCIS: Los Angeles premiered, and 14 years later, it’s saying goodbye after a fantastic run of cases, family, and, of course, explosions. Ahead of the official NCIS: LA sign-off, TV Insider chatted with cast members to hear about their favorite memories and get their thoughts on their characters’ endings. We’re finishing it off with the last of the main four of the team to join, Eric Christian Olsen, whose Marty Deeks was introduced near the end of Season 1. What is your favorite moment from NCIS: LA that is really representative of your character? Eric Christian Olsen: It’s from the episode called “Personal” from Season 2. As “NCIS: LA” comes to a close after over a decade, the stars are looking back on their time on the show.
Daniela Ruah and Eric Christian Olsen have starred together on the episodic crime show since 2010, which meant sometimes spending 14 hours on set together – but there’s no one else they would’ve done this with.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to work with for 14 years. And I know people are always so surprised, like because you hear about TV shows where people want to kill each other,” praised Olsen to Et Canada’s Morgan Hoffman. “And of course, like any relationship, we have our ups and downs because we’re working 14 hours a day. But at the end of the day, she’s such a wonderfully good human being and so thoughtful and kind. And yeah, I couldn’t you know, I couldn’t...

CBS has ordered three new series from this year’s crop of pilots.
The network has handed series orders to Matlock, starring Kathy Bates; The Good Wife spinoff Elsbeth; and the Wayans family comedy, which now is known as Poppa’s House.

The trio will air during the 2023-24 season and will be joined by Tracker, starring Justin Hartley, which formerly was known as The Never Game and was ordered to series in December.
CBS isn’t specifying episode orders, particularly given the current writers strike, but given that all three come from its own studio, the network can be flexible.
It comes after CBS made some space for new titles after axing East New York and True Lies on Tuesday, though it reversed its decision to cancel S.W.A.T., instead bringing the drama back for a seventh and final season.

Warning: The Thing spoilers jump out of nowhere in this piece!
“The last place you want to be in a storm in Antarctica is locked up with a bunch of Norwegian guys,” Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a Columbia graduate and vertebrate paleontologist, is warned as she is flown into the tundra surrounding “Thule,” the central research station in The Thing (2011). The sequestered Norse researchers have never seen John Carpenter’s claustrophobic 1982 alien invasion classic, The Thing. After all, director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and writer Eric Heisserer’s 2011 prequel is set at the Antarctic facility from which the very Thing from outer space splits at the beginning of the ‘82 film. So the newest movie, which is finding a quasi-renaissance on Netflix these days, is a translation of the prior events by Heijningen and Heisserer.

It's been almost 10 years since "Community" went off the air, but many of us spent the years of the pandemic doing a rewatch or three or four. There is just something comforting about seeing a bunch of screwups with a whole lot of heart improvising their way through life, community college, and romance. They mess everything up pretty consistently, just like the rest of us, but in an absurdist way.
Though the show took a few episodes to really find its groove, turning the updated stock characters into beloved weirdos, it was clear by partway through the first season that creator Dan Harmon and the gang were onto something. There was a lot of improv during the run of the show, and in a Reddit Ama (or Ask Me Anything) from 2011, Harmon was asked about his favorite improvised line in the series so far. ("Community" began its run in 2009.) Though...

Jason Ritter has been cast to lead opposite Kathy Bates in CBS‘ upcoming pilot for a Matlock reboot, which will reimagine the classic legal drama previously starring Andy Griffith. The Accused star and Yellowjackets guest star will play Julian, the son of the head of the firm. Julian was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he is still not to be underestimated, according to Deadline. “Diligent and persistent with a lot to prove, he’s at odds with prioritizing his family and balancing his career. He always considers the good of the firm, even if it pushes the boundaries between his work and personal life.” The revival, which comes from Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman and NCIS: Los Angeles star Eric Christian Olsen, revolves around Madeline Matlock (Bates), a brilliant septuagenarian who rejoins the world of law where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily...
