Marvel Studios just wrapped up a surprise Daredevil: Born Again panel at New York Comic Con and the trailer for the highly anticipated Disney+ TV series has leaked online.
The sneak peek includes several of the Man Without Fear's new cowls and clashes with The Punisher, Muse, and The Kingpin. We also catch sight of Bullseye, Karen Page, and Foggy Nelson (it's widely believed they were added to the series following the widely publicised creative overhaul).
There's also an intriguing, predictably tense, exchange between Matt Murdock and New York City's future Mayor, Wilson Fisk:
Fisk: Sometimes, peace needs to be broken. Chaos must reign.
Murdock: It does seem like we really do understand each other, so if you step out of line, I am gonna be there.
Fisk: This caution that you’re giving me. Who’s it from? Matt Murdock or your darker half?
The visuals here...

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 begins production in a few weeks but we won't get to watch that first batch of episodes until next March.
The Disney+ series promises to take a deep dive into the street-level corner of the MCU, something we'd once hoped was also the plan for Spider-Man 4.
Now, The Cosmic Circus brings a few rumoured updates on the show and the Man Without Fear's fellow Defenders. As expected, Mayor Wilson Fisk will indeed be hunting down vigilantes, with Echo and Blindspot once on his list. How much has changed since the creative overhaul remains unclear, though we might have to wait for the latter's MCU debut.
The site has also heard rumblings about Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing returning. They later note that, when we next see Finn Jones' Danny Rand, he'll likely be the next Iron Fist's master rather than the hero who...

While Marvel Television (the original Jeph Loeb-led iteration) was in charge of Netflix's Daredevil, MCU concept artist Ryan Meinerding was enlisted to design the Man Without Fear's costume.
It didn't feature the iconic "Dd" logo and neither has any iteration of the suit since. In fact, it was still missing when Matt Murdock made his MCU debut in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and, based on Daredevil: Born Again set photos, it won't feature there either.
Perhaps the thought process is that a blind superhero wouldn't need or want to put a logo on his chest. Still, fans remain eager to see it on screen.
In the newly released Marvel Studios: The Art of Ryan Meinerding book, new artwork confirms that at least two different versions of the suit were designed for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law with the "Dd" logo front and centre.

An Interesting New Daredevil: Born Again Rumor Reveals Matt And The Kingpin's Surprising New Dynamic
Daredevil: Born Again underwent a creative overhaul midway through production, resulting in sweeping changes to both the story and creative team.
We believe original plans called for Foggy Nelson to die, prompting Matt Murdock to give up being the Man Without Fear (resulting in the lawyer not suiting up for at least four or five episodes of the nine-episode series). In place of a random gunman, we now have Bullseye and set photos have confirmed Karen Page has also been added to the scene.
Some footage from the original shoot will remain and it appears Foggy is still set to take a bullet. However, according to a new rumour shared on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, there's going to be a unique twist.
While we're not putting too much stock in this, it's said that Matt is forced to work for Wilson Fisk's Mayoral campaign after turning to the Kingpin to help keep Foggy alive.

I often lambast the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the "same old, same old" feeling of its movies and television — so I feel a little hypocritical calling the revival series "Daredevil: Born Again" my most anticipated Marvel project.
"Daredevil" ran for three seasons on Netflix from 2015-2018, but was canceled afterward. Like its sister shows, it was a casualty of Marvel and Netflix decoupling from their creative partnership. However, since it was the most consistently acclaimed of the Marvel/Netflix shows and the title character has the biggest built-in audience, "Daredevil" will be born again on Disney+.
As for why I'm excited? "Daredevil" was counterprogramming to the quippy fluff of the MCU movies, with a darker tone and more violence. Plus, what can I say, I'm a fan of the character. If you aren't familiar, Matt Murdock is a blind lawyer blessed with enhanced senses to compensate. At night, he patrols...

The new directors for Marvel Studios' upcoming Daredevil: Born Again show on Disney+ will mark an exciting milestone in MCU history with the reboot.
Initially set to be directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Clark Johnson, and David Boyd, Charlie Cox was confirmed to get his own Daredevil solo series as he reunites with fan-favorite MCU villain Kingpin, played by Vincent D'Onofrio.
But at the moment, the reboot is going through some major behind-the-scenes issues while the crew waits to get back to work, with Marvel even firing Daredevil: Born Again's writing team as the story is set to undergo a huge overhaul.

Love him or hate him, no one can deny that Roland Emmerich is a connoisseur of the disaster movie. The German-born filmmaker has destroyed major cities around the world with volcanoes, floods, aliens, giant monsters, and, most recently, the Moon. Out of all of his on-screen global destructions, the deep freeze of "The Day After Tomorrow" might be his most iconic, if only for the sheer audacity of Emmerich's approach to climate change. The director knows that a satisfying disaster film doesn't need to adhere to the laws of physics or environmental science as long as his audience gets a theatrical experience, and the literal killer cold front of his new Ice Age blockbuster is the prime example of that.
Emmerich has been obsessed with global disasters ever since the student film he made in 1984 while attending the University of Television and Film Munich. Entitled "The Noah's Ark Principle," the...

A review of “Rewind 1921,” this week’s episode of Lovecraft Country, coming up just as soon as I tell you the ingredients for “road rash”…

“Rewind 1921” debuts about a week shy of the one-year anniversary of the Watchmen series premiere, which put the Tulsa Race Massacre at the center of half the cultural conversations many of us have been having for the past 12 months. There seems to be no downside to Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart’s comedy-drama “The Upside.”
The Stx Films pic is on its way to becoming the entertainment company’s first No. 1 debut with an estimated $19.5 million from 3,080 North American sites, knocking Warner Bros.’ “Aquaman” into the second place slot. Stx Films’ previous biggest debut was 2016’s “Bad Moms,” which landed $23.8 million for the No. 3 spot.
“The Upside” took in $6.95 million on Friday and is looking at a weekend estimate nearly double what the film had initially projected, which may be due to the film’s recutting in order to land a PG-13 rating as opposed to its original R. Stx Films reached a distribution deal with Lantern Entertainment, which formed out of the Weinstein Company’s remaining assets, to handle the pic. It was originally intended to be released last year, but was postponed after the Weinstein scandal.

Frankensteined together from the stiff corpses of a dozen smarter movies, “Replicas” is a cloning thriller so carelessly stupid that it often feels like a mad science experiment gone wrong. In fact, the film is such an awkward chimera of stolen ideas that the premise alone violates the basic laws of screenwriting, and probably also those of nature itself.
William Foster is the top neuroscientist at Puerto Rico’s Bionyne research facility, where he’s inventing a way to download a human brain into a synthetic robot body. That’s a difficult task, and it’s made a whole lot harder by William’s impatient boss (the ever-reliable John Ortiz), who gets all kinds of huffy when he learns that his star employee may not achieve the greatest technological achievement in all of history — and effectively kill God — in time for the company’s next earnings report.

Replicas is about yet another scientist who can only see the science in things. William Foster (Keanu Reeves) sees humans only as a centerpiece to neurological entanglements and patterns, easy to bottle up and recreate. At least, in theory. William’s miscues in biosynthetic engineering are in line with those plaguing Jeffrey Nachmanoff’s Replicas: neither recognize humanity, not in William’s experiments, nor in this film’s, well, everything. The answer to William’s problems turns out not to need it, but Replicas could surely use some.
Within this lackluster world, in which human cloning is banned and the weather in Puerto Rico has deadly tendencies, William works for the ominous Bionyne Industries (a quick early shot of the boss man played by John Ortiz reveals the movie’s hand). In pure Robocop fashion, he and his team use “donors” – the war-torn corpses of young soldiers – to attempt, essentially,...

How late can a thriller spring a plot twist that at least partially compensates for all the cavernous plot holes, risible dialogue, and ludicrously illogical behavior that precede it? Probably not nearly as late as the makers of “Replicas” wait before introducing a third-act reveal that brazenly acknowledges just how silly things have been up to that point. By the time director Jeffrey Nachmanoff and screenwriter Chad St. John tap the protagonist played by Keanu Reeves on the shoulder and make him painfully aware of what he’s heretofore been too blind to see, most ticket buyers will have stopped caring — or retreated to the parking lot. And it’s even more likely that home viewers will have already flipped the channel, or preemptively ejected the DVD for a quick return to the Redbox kiosk.

Keanu Reeves plays a doctor at an experimental research facility in the amusingly unconvincing “Replicas,” which is set in a Puerto Rico that looks like it has sustained no damage at all from Hurricane Maria, a visual decision that suits the totally unrealistic movie.
Reeves’ Will Foster is first seen waiting for a donated brain that is being brought to him via helicopter, and director Jeffrey Nachmanoff (“Traitor”) cross-cuts between Reeves anxiously staring at his watch and the brain being rushed into the facility. During an operation to place this brain into a robot body, Dr. Foster is asked, “Do you concur?” by a colleague and Reeves cries, “I concur!” in that ineffably stilted but enthusiastic Keanu-ish way.
Dr. Foster plays Dr. Frankenstein with this robot, urging it to relax once its brain has been turned on; the robot freaks out and tears itself apart, but nevertheless, Foster is encouraged.

In the new sci-fi thriller Replicas, Keanu Reeves stars as a scientist looking to bring his family back to life after a tragic accident. Alice Eve is his loving wife who unwittingly becomes part of his experiment. As well, the great John Ortiz takes on the role of a man who may not quite have Keanu and his families best interest in mind. Directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff, the film also stars Thomas Middleditch who plays a bit of an Igor character to Reeves’ Will Foster. Recently we had the…...

Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston have a Herculean task this weekend: Taking on “Aquaman.”
Hart and Cranston co-star in Stx Films and Lantern Entertainment’s “The Upside,” one of the three movies opening nationwide on Friday that will have to compete with reigning box office champ, “Aquaman.” And unless a new title (the other two releases being Sony’s “A Dog’s Way Home” and Entertainment Studios’ “Replica”) pulls off a surprise, it looks like the King of the Seven Seas will rule yet again.
Warner Bros.’ comic-book tentpole “Aquaman” — starring Jason Momoa and directed by James Wan — has generated over $943 million worldwide and is well on its way to crossing the $1 billion mark. If the aquatic blockbuster sees a similar decline to last weekend, it could add another $15 million to $18 million domestically in its fourth week of release. “Aquaman” has earned a solid $259 million in the States, but overseas...

Keanu Reeves’ next film, Replicas, looks like it tells an interesting sci-fi story about a man who is looking to clone his family, who were tragically killed. As you might expect, things don’t play out as smoothly as he would have liked.

Here is the first trailer for Replicas, starring Keanu Reeves as a daring synthetic biologist who loses his family in a car crash and makes a radical move. He will stop at nothing to bring them back, even if it means pitting himself against a government-controlled laboratory, a police task force and the physical laws of science.
“There was a crash. You and the kids died. I brought you back. … I didn’t defy every natural law there is just to lose you again,” the once-and-again dad and husband whispers his “wife.” Her reply, “How could you do this?”

Entertainment Studios has set a January 11 wide release for Replicas, the Keanu Reeves movie it snapped up at the 2017 Toronto Film Festival for $4M.
On that weekend next year, Replicas will come in contact with Stx/Lantern Capital’s The Upside, Focus Features’ wide break of its young Ruth Bader Ginsburg movie On the Basis of Sex and Sony’s A Dog’s Way Home from director Charles Martin Smith.
Directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff and also starring Alice Eve, Thomas Middleditch and John Ortiz, Replicas follows neuroscientist William Foster (Reeves), an expert on re-creating the human brain for what he thinks is Alzheimer’s research. He alters his research to replicate his family after they’re killed in a car accident. The script was written by Stephen Hamel and Chad St. John, and Reeves produced the film with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Hamel, Mark Gao, and Luis Riefkohl.

Production on the sci-fi thriller Replicas began way back in 2014. In 2014, Tanya Wexler (Hysteria) was expected to director. THR reported that the film would begin shooting shortly after: "production [was] scheduled to begin in spring 2015." Likely, Replicas completed shooting that same year. And, post-production was completed in 2017, according to IMDb. However, the film was eventually shot by director Jeffrey Nachmanoff. In 2017, Replicas released its first trailer. During this same year, the film had an appearance at the New York Comic Con. Now, the film has a second trailer (found below), along with more release details. Notably, Keanu Reeves (John Wick 2) plays Will Foster, a renowned scientist. Will hopes to bring his family back, after their tragic death - involving a car accident. Eventually, he transfers their consciousnesses into automatons, with horrifying results. Since the film's completion in 2017, Replicas has sold in several foreign markets,...

"Standby to initiate neural imprint. All functions: go." Entertainment Studios has revealed another official trailer for the sci-fi thriller titled Replicas, starring Keanu Reeves as a mad scientists who tries to figure out how to bring back his family after they are killed in a car accident. He eventually tries to clone them but we all know how that turns out. The first trailer for this showed up last fall, almost a year ago, and after an appearance at the New York Comic-Con this film dropped off the schedule. There's still no release date, but it looks like they're planning to finally release it sometime soon. The full cast includes Alice Eve, Thomas Middleditch, Emily Alyn Lind, John Ortiz, Emjay Anthony, and Nyasha Hatendi. Unfortuantely this doesn't look any better than it did last year, perhaps trying to mix too many concepts in one big movie. Here's the newest official...

"I'm on the verge of a breakthrough... I am this close." Entertainment Studios has debuted an official trailer for a sci-fi thriller titled Replicas, starring Keanu Reeves as a mad scientists who tries to figure out how to bring back his family after they are killed in a car accident. The cast includes Alice Eve, Thomas Middleditch, Emily Alyn Lind, John Ortiz, Emjay Anthony, and Nyasha Hatendi. As much as I love sci-fi, and as much as I love Keanu Reeves, this looks pretty bad.
