Pop sensation and actor Lady Gaga is no stranger to the macabre. With her fierce love for all things gothic and horror-inspired, she’s brought dark and edgy elements to both her music and on-screen performances, like Lady Gaga’s unforgettable role in American Horror Story. Whether it’s her iconic meat dress or a performance with fake blood at the 2009 VMAs, Gaga has always embraced her love for the eerie. But which horror and thriller films rank as her personal favorites?
Gaga’s admiration for legendary director Alfred Hitchcock is no secret. In her hit song Bad Romance, she famously references three Hitchcock masterpieces: Psycho, Vertigo, and Rear Window. Her love for these films is deeply ingrained in her artistic identity.
In a 2015 interview on The Tonight Show, she even described thrillers and horror as calming for her, elaborating on her affection for the genre. This appreciation for Hitchcock extends to her music,...

Out of all the big-budget blockbusters Jake Gyllenhaal has landed in his career, the 2004 sci-fi-action piece The Day After Tomorrow most certainly wasn’t one. Although it more or less received some fans’ appreciation, a majority of the critics were still as displeased by it as ever, even though it managed to become a considerable commercial success.

Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, was rather disgruntled with the piece himself. While it was one of his initial experiences working on a big-budget project, the actor had quite a few issues with it. As he didn’t hesitate to let known to everyone, one of his biggest problems was his dialogue for the film, which he had a hard time translating to the screens.

Ang Lee is an Oscar-winning filmmaker who has worked in a variety of genres and styles to explore the lives of people around the globe. Let’s take a look back at 12 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in Taiwan in 1954, Lee’s interest in film brought him to NYU’s graduate program, where he worked as a crew member on classmate Spike Lee‘s thesis project, “Joe’s Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads.” He directed his first feature, “Pushing Hands” (1991) at the age of 37.
Lee followed up his debut with back-to-back international successes, each one scoring Oscar nominations as Best Foreign Language Film: “The Wedding Banquet” (1993) and “Eat Drink Man Woman” (1994). In both films, the director explored the kinds of complex familial relationships that would animate many of his stories.
He was then drafted by Hollywood to helm the Jane Austin adaptation “Sense and Sensibility” (1995), which...

Kandi Burruss is in the midst of another career renaissance. After rising to fame as one-fourth of the ‘90s R&b girl group Xscape, Burruss’ next turn in the spotlight came as a cast member of the longstanding Real Housewives of Atlanta reality series, on which she starred from 2009-2023.
In March, Burruss announced she was departing the Bravo franchise after a whopping 14 seasons, a decision she says was borne out of her desire to seriously pursue an acting career.
“I no longer wanted to just be able to be a guest star,” Burruss tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I wanted to be able to audition for a role that’s more substantial on whatever project it may be. So I decided that I was going to go ahead and step out on faith, because this was my contract year. It was my year that I could actually make the decision for myself.

There’s a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man coming our way from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell, aiming for a January 17, 2025 theatrical release – and this week, the folks at the Motion Picture Association ratings board have revealed that they’ve given the film an R rating for bloody violent content, grisly images and some language. This isn’t the first time a reboot of The Wolf Man has been given an R rating, as the 2010 reboot that was directed by Joe Johnston and starred Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, and Emily Blunt was also rated R, for bloody horror violence and gore.
The leads of this version of Wolf Man are Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both of whom were in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Abbott is taking on the role of a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Matt Damon famously lost out on a lot of money after turning down James Cameron’s Avatar. But Cameron noted that there were plenty of other Avatar movies for the Bourne Identity star to do. However, it wouldn’t be for the same lucrative deal that Damon would’ve had for the first film.

Although Damon currently has a net worth of $170 million, it could’ve been a bit higher if he starred in Cameron’s Avatar. The actor was Cameron’s first choice to play disabled soldier Jake Sully in the blockbuster sci-fi film. According to Damon, The Terminator director even called him up personally to offer him the role.

If you're DC Studios, the film, television, and video game company tasked with exploiting the massive roster of DC Comics characters for our entertainment and their financial gain, you obviously want your excitable fanbase focused right now on what's to come rather than what's been -- because outside of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman", Todd Phillips' "Joker" (we'll get to its sequel in a moment), and Matt Reeves' "The Batman," what DC Studios (former DC Films) has been is a complete and totally aimless disaster. When it handed the creative reins over to Zack Snyder after the somewhat underwhelming blockbuster success of "Man of Steel", it committed to a dreary run toward a "Justice League" that, even in its director's cut, was strangely joyless.
Snyder's run had its supporters (ahem), but the box office reflects an overall enthusiasm deficit compared to the miraculous, masterfully...

Denis Villeneuve charmed his 2000-strong audience at the London Film Festival with a personal review of his long career, including his number one rule for creating a happy film set.
The Dune director was asked how he deals with A-list egoes on his huge film sets, and replied directly: “First rule: you avoid the assholes.”
Asked if he would name anyone in particular, he tactfully demurred, saying instead he considered it “a game” to get the best out of any actor he recruited to appear in a film.
Villeneuve also intimated his desire to make a dialogue-free film at some point. He said:
“I love dialogue, but not [always] in cinema,” explaining that it was sometimes better suited to theatre or television. “I hope one day I will be able to make a film that will not use spoken language. I try as much as possible to use the power of images.

Dune director Denis Villeneuve got candid about his filmography with Brett Goldstein at a BFI London Film Festival event on Saturday.
The Canadian filmmaker was speaking at a Screen Talks event with the Ted Lasso star at the city’s Royal Festival Hall, where he dove deeper into his early career, making it to Hollywood and adapting Frank Herbert’s Dune.
Villeneuve also explained why he considers Blade Runner 2049 (2017), starring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling, one of the “most risky” films of his career, alongside Polytechnique (2009). “In the past,” he began, “I refused a few sci-fi films, big films, because I was not greedy… But after Sicario I felt that I had the muscles to be able to carry a project like [Blade Runner 2049].”
“I said, ‘Ok, if I do one big sci-fi movie, and I risk everything, that’s beautiful. To make a sequel to my favorite film...

Henry Cavill, who played Superman in The Dceu, aka the "SnyderVerse," is set to take to the skies again... in a giant Robot Lion.
THR reports that the Man of Steel and The Witcher star has signed on to play a lead role in Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action Voltron movie.
Cavill joins previously-cast newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye, who previously appeared in Badults and served as Tom Holland’s understudy in Romeo & Juliet on the West End this spring. No details on either of their characters have been disclosed, but we assume they will play two of the five Voltron pilots.
The project is being helmed by Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber, and is based on the Japanese sci-fi show Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger Xv. World Events would later edit and dub the series as a syndicated show, naming it Voltron: Defender of the Universe, which ran in the mid '80s.

“More effort than it’s worth” possibly represents the harshest 5 words that can be strung together in the English language. For a film, that statement guarantees an immediate death sentence. In the case of Antonio Banderas’ The 13th Warrior, it spelled the extinction of an entire genre: the Muslim hero archetype.

In the film’s critical and commercial failure, Antonia Banderas finds a sense of comfort and familiarity with his daughter Dakota Johnson whose 2024 film, Madame Web went through somewhat of a similar treatment. Both films represent a central character destined for a greater purpose who is uprooted from their established life and thrown into a mission against a foreign enemy.

Amazon MGM‘s Voltron movie got a significant update today after confirming that The Witcher and Man of Steel star Henry Cavill is joining the live-action adaptation. Cavill lends some impressive star power to the Rawson Marshall Thurber-directed feature, also starring Daniel Quinn-Toye.

John Mulaney may have packed up “The Sack Lunch Bunch,” but he’ll be back on Netflix next year in a big way.
The standup comedian is getting his own live variety talk show on the streaming service; it will premiere in early 2025. Mulaney will host the show, co-showrun it, and executive produce though his Multiple Camera Productions.
The rest of the details remain under wraps, though here at IndieWire we do have one strong suggestion: Mr. Music (Jake Gyllenhaal) as bandleader.
Mulaney and Netflix tested this whole thing out earlier this year with six episodes of “John Mulaney’s Everybody’s in L.A.,” a live show that was part of the 2024 Netflix Is a Joke Fest. It’s widely acknowledged that Matt Reeves’ The Batman was a major success. Since it introduced a second Batman and exists in a separate universe from the Dceu, many fans speculated that this series wouldn’t connect to James Gunn’s upcoming Dcu.
While Matt Reeves continues to develop his own narrative, the recent DC revamp has brought some changes that have shaped the new Dcu.
Despite concerns among fans about potential challenges for Reeves’ universe due to the Dcu alterations, it seems Reeves will have the chance to craft his own trilogy. As it stands, he will continue with Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman, while Gunn focuses on his own vision.

It’s well-known that Matt Reeves’ The Batman was a huge hit. Given that it featured a second Batman and was set in a different universe from the then-existing Dceu. Due to that many fans speculated that this series would not be connected to James Gunn’s new Dcu either.
While Matt Reeves’ solo series continues down its own path, there have been a few changes brought about by the DC revamp that led to the birth of the Dcu.
Though there were fans who worried that Reeves’ universe would have difficulties as a result of the Dcu’s alterations, it appears that Reeves will not be denied the opportunity to create his own trilogy. As things stand, Reeves will remain with Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of the character, while Gunn will keep working on his own.
And this means that we are going to have two Batmen on the screen at one point.

Michael Bay is in talks to direct Will Smith in the Netflix action film Fast and Loose, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Fast and Loose focuses on a crime boss who loses his memory after an attack and gradually learns that he was leading a double life as a CIA agent. Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson worked on the screenplay. Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the original script after selling their pitch to Netflix.
The movie has been in the works since before Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars ceremony. THR previously reported that David Leitch had exited the project the week before the fated Academy Awards telecast to start work on The Fall Guy, the Ryan Gosling-Emily Blunt action-comedy feature that Universal released in May.
Producers for Fast and Loose include Leitch and Kelly McCormick for 87North, along with Smith.

"Bones" — the procedural drama centered around forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and her FBI counterpart Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) ran from 2005 to 2017, spanning nearly 250 episodes and 12 full seasons. But will it ever come back for a revival?
It seems like everything is getting a reboot or revival now. Earlier this year, they reinvented "Mean Girls" as a musical starring Reneé Rapp, and shortly after that came out, Jake Gyllenhaal headlined a remake movie of the '80s classic "Road House" for a new generation. In Ryan Gosling's (delightful) action comedy "The Fall Guy," Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, who played the lead roles in the original series, show up in cameo appearances at the very end of the film. Throughout the past few years, everything from "Cobra Kai" to "Fuller House" to the long-awaited fourth season of "Veronica Mars" has reunited original cast members for another go-around. So why not "Bones?...

Briarcliff Entertainment has acquired domestic distribution rights to the critically acclaimed film, with plans to release in the first quarter of 2025. From Ratcatcher to Anacondacatcher? Deadline reports that Daniela Melchior is set to join Paul Rudd and Jack Black in the new Anaconda movie in development at Sony Pictures. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent director Tom Gormican is set to direct the project as well as co-write the script with Kevin Ettin. The project has apparently been in the works since early 2023, going through a lot of rewrites as they try to strike the correct tone.
It’s not known who Melchior will play in the Anaconda movie, but the project won’t be a remake of the ’90s classic that starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight. According to sources, “the new story involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. There’s a reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property The Wolf Man coming our way from Blumhouse Productions and The Invisible Man (2020) director Leigh Whannell, aiming for a January 17, 2025 theatrical release – and the folks at Empire have just unveiled a new image from the film, which can be seen at the bottom of this article. Empire also shared some quotes from Whannell where he said he’s aiming to make this different from every other werewolf movie we’ve seen, and described the project as “straight-up, pure horror.”
The leads of Wolf Man are Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both of whom were in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene. Abbott is taking on the role of a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator. Garner is playing his wife, a character described as being a mother whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

The first question that pops up in connection to Dito Montiel’s dark crime comedy about a messy family reunion, Riff Raff, is how in hell he assembled such a cast of proven talents. Even if they never really mesh as an ensemble, there are pleasures to be had watching an Ed Harris-Bill Murray face-off, Pete Davidson as a depressed gangster, Gabrielle Union classing up the joint and Jennifer Coolidge bringing the tone crashing down as a sloppy drunk with a mouth like a trucker and a raging libido.
Had all those assets been funneled into a movie with some tonal consistency and a script that built credible relationships, the result might have been a nasty bit of fun. Instead, it wobbles awkwardly between creeping mob menace and scrappy sitcom, inching toward a violent climax that still doesn’t acquire cohesion. Montiel, who remains best known for his 2006 autobiographical first feature,...

McLaughlin steps into the role to help drive the company’s growth and to continue building on their run recent successes, which includes Amazon/MGM Studios’ “Road House” remake, which broke records with over 50 million worldwide viewers on Prime Video its first two weekends and AppleTV+’s “Presumed Innocent,” the platform’s most-viewed drama, which was recently renewed for a second season with Gyllenhaal once again executive producing for Nine Stories.

After making thin air terrifying again with 2020’s atmospheric and chilling horror film The Invisible Man, Leigh Whannell is taking another bite out of the Universal Monsters rogue’s gallery with Wolf Man. Before everyone logs off for the weekend, Whannell and Blumhouse hit horror fans with a Wolf Man teaser trailer, previewing the filmmaker’s latest bone-chilling horror film.
Today’s Wolf Man teaser trailer begins with footage of a praying mantis stalking an unsuspecting lunch, striking with lightning-fast speed as the meal feels fangs piercing its exterior. As the words Wolf Man steadily slash onto the screen, the footage shows a remote house in Oregon where a mysterious animal waits in the woods. While trying to adjust to their new lives, Christopher Abbott is attacked by what he says is a ferocious wolf-like creature standing on two legs. As the lycanthropy surges through his system, he changes, leaving...

Yesterday, we got our first look at what was believed to be the new Wolfman design for Universal and Blumhouse's upcoming reboot (titled Wolf Man), with an actor donning a monster costume to jump out at passers-by at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights takeover attraction.
The reveal was met with a decidedly mixed response (and we're probably being kind there) from fans, most of whom felt that the titular lycanthrope looked more like some kind of mutant hillbilly from the Wrong Turn movies than an actual werewolf.
There was speculation that this might simply be a guy in a thrown-together outfit and not indicative of the Wolfman's official look, but insider Daniel Richtman believes this is indeed how the creature will be depicted in the movie - though it is said to "look slightly better in the actual film."
It's certainly... a choice! But we're sure it will look at lot better in the movie,...

When Wolf Man was first announced in 2020, Ryan Gosling was set to star in it – and in fact, it got rolling when Gosling pitched this take on the concept of The Wolf Man to Universal, and his idea was then fleshed out into a screenplay by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, a writing duo that previously worked on Orange Is the New Black. At the time, it was said the story was “believed to be set in present times and in the vein of Jake Gyllenhaal’s thriller Nightcrawler with an obvious supernatural twist.” The final version of the script is credited to Blum and Angelo, as well as Whannell and his wife Corbett Tuck.
Unfortunately, the project would get delayed and Gosling would depart from the planned reboot. The leads of the film will be Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, both of whom were in the 2011 film Martha Marcy May Marlene.

The Agatha All Along star on casting a spell over the small screen
“I’ve always envisioned myself being in a Marvel, ever since I was a kid,” says Joe Locke. “Ever since” in this case is not reaching very far back into the past. Locke is still just 20 and he’s already achieved that childhood dream. In the upcoming Marvel TV series Agatha All Along, a WandaVision spin-off, Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha has been stripped of her witchy magic and is on a quest to restore it. Locke plays her fanboy assistant, simply known as ‘Teen’. “To be doing it, it’s very ‘pinch me’,” he tells Empire.
The last few years haven’t been short on pinch-me moments for Locke. In 2021, he was just any other teenager, growing up on the Isle Of Man, “applying to normal universities to study history and politics”. Then he attended an open...

“Speaking hypothetically, what would happen if a Yankees fan yelled ‘Bucky Fucking Dent’ as you are in your windup to throw out the first pitch today,” I ask Matt Damon as he marinates in the anxiety of Jason Bourne screwing it up on the mound in front of a sellout crowd at Fenway Park.
He doesn’t miss a beat: “I guess I’ll be throwing at your head, Mike.”
We are at Fenway on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, in which a Red Sox-Yankees contest has turned into a celebration for the Apple TV+ release of The Instigators. That comedy has proved itself an example of a moderately priced film that can be a victory for a big streamer, armed with clever marketing that included the above Dunkin’ Donuts commercial spoof which exploded virally and helped drive the film to become one of Apple TV+’s most watched films.
