She Kills is a new exploitation from writer and director Ron Bonk, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Sunday 21st January. I got chance to ask Ron a few questions about why he chose to replicate an exploitation style film, what were his influences from the genre and the issue of shooting a low budget feature.
What can we expect from the film?
Generally, insanity. The movie starts semi-crazy and then keeps going off the edge, only to reach another edge and another and it just keeps jumping off. But beyond that and the shocks and humor, there is a message there that I hope resonates with the audience.
Why did you decide to film She kills in the style of a 1970s exploitation/grindhouse?
I always wanted to do a Grindhouse homage. I love those movies, but loved even more what I expected...

Controversy be damned, Discovery’s “Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White” took a bite out of the competition.
The special because Discovery’s highest-rated Shark Week telecast ever across adults 25-54, women 25-54, and women 18-49, and was last Sunday’s No. 1 basic cable show in primetime in the key adults 18-49 demo. Discovery’s “Shark-Croc Showdown” also made it into the week’s top 25 telecasts among adults 18-49.

Disney Channel also had reason to crow last week, as the premiere of “Descendants 2” on July 21 averaged 8.6 million viewers on Disney Channel alone after three days worth of DVR usage. The telecast was simulcast on ABC, Disney Channel, Disney Xd, Freeform, Lifetime and Lifetime Movies, and Disney said it ultimately reached 21 million total viewers via various platforms.
Disney also reports that “Descendants 2” was the No.

Wondering how all the DC universe TV spin-offs, crossovers and webseries fit together? We have the answer...
In October 2012, Us network The CW launched the first season of Arrow, after wrapping up no fewer than ten seasons of Superman origin show Smallville a year before. Arrow was a completely new take on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, in a new universe that had nothing to do with Smallville or its version of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow. The series proved quite the hit for The CW, and a second season renewal inevitably followed. In season two, we were introduced to forensic scientist Barry Allen, better known to DC Comics readers as The Flash. Arrow got a third season, The Flash got his own TV show with great success, and the live action shared DC Comics universe on TV was born. And with it the question: how does it all fit together?...

Comic Book Reviews: DC Round Up Week 09-14-2016
DC is settling into its new focused style of content storytelling, and producing some fantastic stories thanks to the new approach. While mostly everything has been a hit, there have been a few snags as well. One issue I keep having is trying to figure out how it all “fits” together in a bigger picture. Some books seem closer connected others; some appear not connected all to the larger DC Universe. This might not be a problem for most, it can be a little jarring for me, when I’m reading Batgirl is running around Japan in her book, but is also hanging out with Huntress and Black Canary in the Birds of Prey series, while appearing in Nightwing and referencing her time currently in Japan, but Black Canary appears in Green Arrow without any indication she’s even been to Gotham or around Batgirl.

Like the rest of the summer, it’s a mixed bag.
The good news: this weekend’s top two films, one opener and one holdover, grossed nearly $115 million. That’s better than the top two last year (holdovers “Jurassic World” and “Inside Out”).
The bad news: while “Finding Dory” is a huge success, “Independence Day: Resurgence” is a dud that will likely fall like a rock from its underwhelming opening.
Buddy comedy “Central Intelligence” enjoyed a strong second weekend, and low-budget horror flick “The Shallows” scored a better-than-expected opening, buoyed by rave reviews. But Stx’s risky opening strategy failed for Gary Ross’s historic epic “Free State of Jones,” starring Matthew McConaughey. Another national release in under 800 theaters bombed. “The Neon Demon” and its sub-$1 million haul is covered in Arthouse Audit. (This week’s box office preview is here; last weekend’s Top 10 Box Office Takeaways is here.

No. No. We aren't wrapping 2015 yet. There's still prizes to hand out and a few more lists to finish writing. But we can and must wrap up December since it ends in a few hours when everyone will be kissing on everyone and screaming "Happpy New Year!"
Since the film year doesn't truly end until the last Oscar statue is handed out, it'd be more accurate to scream...

But try convincing the drunk masses to scream that one out at midnight tonight!
December Highlights
• SAG Ensemble who got left out even though their film was nominated?

In 1943, audiences flocked to see Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man, the first Universal picture to feature two franchise monsters in a fight to the death. The fight didn’t come until the closing moments, but audiences didn’t care – they were seeing the creatures onscreen together for the first time, and that was enough.
Decades later, the bar for horror pictures had fallen so low that watching Tara Reid run away from a Sharknado – not once, not twice, but three times – constituted great entertainment. Or if that wasn’t your cup of tea, you could watch Debbie Gibson run away from Mega Shark.
Horror films aren’t what they used to be, and you have to wonder about the minds that dream up such concepts as David Hasselhoff Vs Killer Snakes (Anaconda 3), Alice Cooper Vs Rubbery Monsters (Monster Dog) and Gary Oldman Vs The Vengeful Spirit (The Unborn...

The best part of Lifetime's "Unauthorized" TV show takedowns is the reaction of the real cast members. Over the weekend, the network took on "Beverly Hills 90210" and the actors weren't too impressed. However, they had different ways of "honoring" the big event. Tori Spelling used the attention to promote "Celebrity Lie Detector," and said she had a fling with Jason Priestley, who responded online. Shannen Doherty, not surprisingly, had a terse reaction to how she was portrayed. Jason dissed the Lifetime show and Tori's "Lie Detector," but supported Shannen.
Ian Ziering had the most fun, tweeting about inaccuracies during the special, sharing old photos, and ending with the perfect assessment of the whole thing:

On Sunday night, Katy Perry soared across the sky like an NBC PSA, Marshawn Lynch went into "Beast Mode," and the Patriots took home another Super Bowl title. But all of that pales in comparison to the big game's breakout stars: the halftime sharks. These giant sea creatures boogied through the Pepsi Super Bowl Xlix Halftime Show in a blaze of glory that left thousands of folks scrambling to Twitter and millions of viewers echoing the same question: "Who is left shark?' Yes, these oddly endearing felt monsters stole the show, but it was the left finned dancer who truly soared.

Perry's Sochi/Frozen/Tron-themed EntranceOkay, riding in on a giant mechanical tiger was kind of a hard spectacle to top, but then all those dancers came out and it was kind of like Tron, but it was kind of also like Frozen? Saint Louis has incredibly deep and rich brewing history. Even before Adolphus Busch married Lilly Eberhard Anheuser, Johann Adam Lemp had been running his brewery since 1840. He had been a grocer for two years prior, but customers preferred the lager he brewed. At the dawn of the Civil War, Lemp had about 40 competitors locally.

Bravo is working on another adaptation for its next potential scripted pilot. After looking at turning Heathers, The Joneses and the Danish series Rita (so far, only Rita looks like it will film the pilot), the channel is developing a modern-day version of Charles Dickens‘ Bleak House.
Lisa Edelstein will appear in a multi-episode story arc on the upcoming season of Castle, according to TVLine. She’ll play a Federal Investigator who works with Beckett as she debates taking that Washington DC job.

A German librarian has written a book on how The Simpsons has changed the way gay people are perceived. I’m always mixed about The Simpsons and its heavy usage of stereotypes, but it hasn’t shied away from repeatedly showing gay people as just part of Springfield’s landscape.
A steel mill has to have the most uncomfortably warm dance floor.
On the other hand, GLAAD is angry with Showtime’s Ray Donovan for its pilot where the Hollywood fixer worked for a star spotted picking up a transgender woman. Despite doing great work with gay, lesbian and bisexual characters, Donovan is part of what GLAAD identifies as part of a bad trend of depicting transgender people as subjects of mockery and disgust. I’m surprised to see House of Lies in the condemnations, my initial impression was that it had a potentially strong transgender storyline with the son.

In a rather surprising development, Amazon plans to start selling fanfic. Really. The online retailer will let fanfic writers sell their Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars or Vampire Diaries-inspired stories and keep a portion of the sale. All three series are based on books brought to TV by Alloy Entertainment and Amazon says its working to get more properties into the mix. Now, anyone knows if they’ve banned crossovers? It would be fun to see how “A” and Gossip Girl would react to each other.
Andy Roddick will join Fox Sports Live, Fox Sports’ equivalent of SportsCenter, as a co-host.
Why aren’t there more hosting gigs that include moments of shirtlessness?
It’s taken nearly a year, but TLC has picked up the Bukudroos-produced celebrity genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are?. The new season will include episodes focusing on Zooey Deschanel, Chris O’Donnell and Christina Applegate.

Exclusive: Days after landing as a selection on the Black List, the Barbara Marshall spec script Peste has been acquired by Im Global Octane, the genre arm of Im Global. I’m surprised the script has lasted this long, considering it also made the Blood List (which covers genre scripts) and the Hit List before landing on the Black List. And also because it was written as the first part of a trilogy and aren’t franchises on every studio’s laundry list? In Peste, a teenage girl begins a video documentary about her life for a school project just as a terrifying virus sweeps through her small town. Quarantined with her family, she thinks they are out of harm’s way, but she soon learns that the virus has invaded their house. Her video documents the family’s frantic struggle to find a cure before they are completely taken over by the Peste.

It's the 25th anniversary of Discovery Channel's Shark Week extravaganza, otherwise known as the best thing ever on television ever, ever, ever, forever. The event kicked off July 17, 1988, and this year, Discovery promises to be shark-ier than ever with "specials that get you so close to the action, if you were any closer you'd be bait!"
It all begins August 12 at 9 p.m. Est. Throughout the week, you can expect to see eight new specials. 2011's "Ultimate Air Jaws" gets a follow-up with "Air Jaws Apocalypse," in which shark expert Chris Fallows and producer Jeff Kurr explore Seal Island, South Africa, risking their lives for a close encounter with the 14-foot great white shark known as Colossus.
In "Shark Fight," victims of shark attacks discuss the terrifying moments of their confrontations. They've persevered after losing their limbs to sharks -- and now, these victims have actually dedicated their lives to protecting sharks.

In celebration of the DVD release of Exit Humanity (review here), the Civil War-themed zombie romp, we thought it would be a fine time to take a look back at some of the greatest zombie hordes throughout the history of the sub-genre.
As always, let's start with some honorable mentions. The fact it's Peter Jackson directed, and one of the goriest films of all time, means Dead Alive (aka Braindead) and its infected mob is certainly worthy of an honorable mention here. Also one of the unheralded all-time classics… and perhaps the zombie film with the greatest title ever…Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, directed by Bob Clark and featuring zombie Orville Dunworth and his undead friends, gets another nod. Also a big honorable mention to the underrated 2009 French film The Horde, which featured a very impressive group of hungry undead.

Back when I first heard that Lindsay Lohan would be posing nude for Playboy, I was sad. It seemed a desperate act for a once-promising young star, a final appeal for fame from someone with no other options. It seemed this could be Lohan’s last hurrah, the last time her name would grace a magazine cover (at least, until some sort of tragedy struck). But now, just one day after her Playboy cover leaked on the Web, rocketing Lohan to the top of Internet searches, I’m realizing this could hardly be the end for Lindsay Lohan. This, in fact,...

Below you will find a list of movie that Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright has never seen. Not long ago Wright went out and asked his friends and fans to recommend some movies they thought he may have missed over the last thirty years of his life. He got recommendations from Quentin Tarantino, Daniel Waters, Bill Hader, John Landis, Guillermo Del Toro, Joe Dante, Judd Apatow, Joss Whedon, Greg Mottola, Schwartzman, Doug Benson, Rian Johnson, Larry Karaszeski, Josh Olson, Harry Knowles and hundreds of fans on this blog.
From these recommendations, Wright created a master list of recommended films that were frequently mentioned. The director now wants the fans to choose which of the films on the list he should watch on the big screen.
Wright is holding a film event at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles called Films Edgar Has Never Seen.

Edgar Wright's latest epic project [1] has him partnering with Quentin Tarantino, Judd Apatow, Joss Whedon, Bill Hader, Guillermo Del Toro, Joe Dante, Greg Mottola, Harry Knowles, Rian Johnson and, probably, several of you. Like all of us, Wright has a bunch of classic and cult films he's never seen. Unlike all of us, he has the means to see them for the first time on the big screen and will do just that in December [2] at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles during Films Edgar Has Never Seen. The director of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World asked both his famous friends (some of which are listed above) and fans to send in their personal must see lists and, from those titles, Wright came up with one mega list from which he'll pick a few movies to watch December 9-16. After the jump check...

With just six days before next Wednesday’s finale, Big Brother is almost done blaring a spotlight on each player’s game. Remember early on, when we spent a good week inspecting Dominic, wondering if he was a social savant or a totally futile houseguest? Remember when we examined Brendon, the zombie with comeback zeal? Then Daniele, the self-possessed heroine of this season? Then Shelly — our beige-y, beige-tastic, Me’Shelly NBeigeOcello (see here)– the defiant troubadour who scorned not-so-big Jeff? Finally, we’re getting around to vivisecting the one player who never, ever seemed to matter: Adam. And we’re discovering more than we planned.

So, you have an opinion on Matthew McConaughey, don’t you! Everyone does. After the better part of a decade appearing in films which are, at best, undemanding and, at worst, just plain awful, he has become something of a joke around Hollywood because he just can’t seem to keep his nipples off screen.

The Reading, Writing, It’s Exciting! Program (Rwe) is hosting a reading and literacy event at the Westside Pavilion Barnes & Noble (10850 West Pico Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90064) on June 4th & 7th to promote literacy and to shine a spotlight on how important it is for parents to read with their children.
To help ensure this message is heard, the organization has invited various celebrities to read a book (Dr. Seuss or other) for twenty minutes with one of the children at the event (or to their own children). Rwe hopes the celebrity participation will help inspire other parents to undertake this all-so-important activity with their own children. Literacy experts have all stated that if parents read to, and with, their children from a young age, it would solve many of our literacy problems.
Celebrities confirmed include Scott L. Schwartz (Ocean’s 11, 13, 13, The Scorpion King), Sean Kanan (The Young & The Restless,...

Aspiring screenwriters, take note. To sell a spec script in Hollywood nowadays, you need only follow this simple three-step formula: 1. Base the story on an existing comic book 2. Come up with a catchy and/or ironic title 3. Add zombies It really is that simple. Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company is currently setting up a project called Zombies vs. Robots, based on an Idw comic by Ashley Wood and Chris Ryall. It may sound like it could be a sequel to Jon Favreau's upcoming Cowboys vs. Aliens, but the two are apparently unrelated. Sony Pictures has picked up the distribution rights after a bidding war with multiple studios. Hey, at least it's not another board game movie, right? The plot revolves around a young girl who is the last survivor on earth. A group of robots must protect her from roving zombies that are "intelligent and evolved." What remains...

#13 – “Eagle vs. Shark” (2007)
Directed by Taika Waititi
At first glance the Antipodean comedy “Eagle vs. Shark” appears very much cut from the same comedic cloth as Jared Hess’ 2004 ode to geekdom “Napoleon Dynamite” with its socially inept lead characters, quirky soundtrack and offbeat comic sensibilities. On closer inspection, however, Taika Waititi’s debut feature reveals itself to be something altogether different; a charming romantic comedy fuelled by a witty script, a great cast, a gorgeous soundtrack and a great deal of heart.
Fans of cult TV series “Flight of the Conchords” will already recognize lead actor Jemaine Clement who, as Jarrod, most closely resembles the inimitable Mr. Dynamite with his underdeveloped social skills, lack of sexual expertise and penchant for videogames, kung fu and dressing up as his favourite animal (“I almost came as a shark actually, but then I...

Inspiration doesn’t always come from a likely source. In many cases, it comes when you least expect it, and in the most unexpected ways. This was the case for Choreographer, Chuck Maldonado, whose chance meeting with a superstar recording artist, led to an unbelievably successful career in dance.
During his break between filming and rehearsals, for the February 2010 box office sequel, Stomp The Yard 2: Homecoming, Chuck sat down with Iae and shared how he went from corporate America to becoming one of music and film’s most sought after choreographers.
Iae: Tell us about some of the film projects you’re working on now?
Cm: Well, currently I’m working on Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming, which is my 19th movie, by the way. This is the movie that I’m most proud of because I’m bringing a lot of me with the dance. Like the characters in the film,...

This Grindhouse spin-off is the latest Hollywood product to sport a deliberately dumb, web-friendly movie title. This brazen pandering has got to stop
Today sees the first day of principal photography on a new film called Hobo With a Shotgun. If you've heard of it before, it'll be because Hobo With a Shotgun is the title of a competition-winning fan-made fake trailer produced for Grindhouse, the notorious Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez misfire. And now it's being turned into a full movie, starring Rutger Hauer as the titular shotgun-wielding hobo.
The film will be notable for a couple of reasons. First, it's the second of Grindhouse's fake trailers to be transformed into a feature-length movie, after this summer's Lindsay Lohan comeback vehicle Machete. This could potentially mean that Rob Zombie's trailer for Nazi Werewolf Women of the SS will be next, which would be a joy for anybody who'd...

The Blind Side star is only the latest in a long line of actresses to see their marriages collapse right after taking Oscar home. The consequences for us filmgoers can only be dire
This week we've barely been able to move for hearing about the curse of the Oscars. If you're unfamiliar with the concept, it's basically this – when you win an Academy Award for best actress, your world collapses. Hilary Swank and Reese Witherspoon got divorced shortly after winning their Oscars, while Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts and Halle Berry all experienced similar heartache soon after they won theirs. It all seemed like a coincidence, but things became a little more suspicious when Kate Winslet announced her separation from Sam Mendes this week.
And now that Sandra Bullock's husband Jesse James has been accused of a predilection for women called Bombshell who have words tattooed across their foreheads, that...
