In 2010, AMC Networks premiered The Walking Dead, an apocalyptic series that aired for 12 years across 11 seasons. Based on the comics created by Robert Kirkman, the series became wildly popular, beyond what anyone could have imagined, and has inspired other series within the genre.
The Walking Dead has been praised for its earliest and final seasons, with mixed reviews for its seventh and eighth seasons. While it is set in an undead apocalypse, the stories revolve around the survivors and their experiences after the outbreak occurred. Many viewers note this is why the series became so popular.
Long-standing cast members for the series include Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Several of these characters' stories have continued in the long line of spinoffs of the main series. Let's check out some...

Stars: Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Guy Pearce, Sandrine Holt, Elizabeth Saunders, Jennifer Dale, Eric Weinthal | Written and Directed by David Cronenberg
The Shrouds, the latest film from director David Cronenberg is a poorly conceived hodge-podge of ideas about sex, death and technology, with a dash of bog-standard body horror thrown in. Tonally, it’s all over the place, which means it fails to satisfy on a number of different levels.
As the film begins, it feels like jet jet-black comedy, except you’re not sure just how much you’re actually meant to be laughing. It opens in a restaurant, where tech genius Karsh (Vincent Cassel) – who also owns the restaurant – is entertaining a beautiful young woman (Elizabeth Saunders as Gray Foner) on a first date. Abruptly, he insists she accompanies him outside to the adjoining cemetery – which he also owns – so that he can show her not just the...

Stephen King certainly knows a thing or two about horror. A master of the genre himself — as an author whose books are constantly adapted for both the big and small screen — King knows what makes a movie or TV show perfectly scary, suspenseful, or spooky. Last spring, he posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) about one of his favorite recent projects, the horror series "From."
In May of 2023, King wrote about a show he apparently enjoyed quite a bit and got right to the point. "From: I'm three episodes in," the author began before getting into some specifics about the beginning of season 1. "Wonderful concept, beautifully handled. Is it possible these people are dead and don't know it? That spike through the head ... holy cow."
If you've never heard of "From," you're missing out — especially now that you know it's endorsed by King. The sci-fi horror hybrid, created by John Griffin,...

After having its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival back in May, The Shrouds will have its France theatrical debut on Jan. 22, 2025, followed by its U.S. theatrical release in spring 2025. Yes, you read that right. Sideshow and Janus Films have acquired the U.S. rights to The Shrouds and set its release in U.S. theaters this coming spring.
An official release date has not been revealed just yet, but a spring release means we're looking at somewhere between March 20, 2025, and June 20, 2025. No worries! We'll get back to you with the official U.S. release date once it's announced.
The Shrouds is described as an arthouse horror film. It was written and helmed by David Cronenberg, who you might recognize as the writer and director of the horror films Shivers, Scanners, Videodrome and The Fly. Initially, it was going to be a Netflix show, but the streaming giant...

David Cronenberg has said that his new film The Shrouds – which has been making the festival rounds lately (you can read what JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray thought of it Here) – was originally intended to be a Netflix TV series, but the streamer dropped it after paying him to write the pilot episode. So a feature film it is, and Deadline reports that Sideshow and Janus Films have acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the film, with their plan being to give it a theatrical release sometime in the spring of 2025.
In The Shrouds, Vincent Cassel, who previously worked with Cronenberg on Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method, takes on the role of Karsh, “an innovative businessman and grieving widower, who builds a novel device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. Every small step the protagonists take forward is met with grueling steps back, courtesy of the mysterious puzzle box of horrors in the propulsive MGM+ series “From.” Or rather, the harder the humans fight to escape their bizarre purgatory, the crueler the enigmatic evil gets, aiming to crush their spirits before devouring them. And it’s evolving. “From” Season 3 picks up immediately from where Season 2 left off, and while the first five episodes screened for critics put us no closer to answers, one thing is certain: the gloves are now fully off for the horror.
Time is of the essence this season. The dawning realization that resources were growing scarce has snowballed into the very real possibility of starvation. Boyd (Harold Perrineau) faces a ticking clock of his own with an illness, one that’s emboldened him to fight back in his relentless pursuit to find salvation for the survivors.

As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest – including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down. Diane Kruger is looking chic at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival!
The 48-year-old actress wore a black silk blouse with a lace skirt and a black veil as she attended the premiere of her new movie The Shrouds on Wednesday (Sept. 11) at the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, Canada.
Joining Diane at the premiere were her costars Sandrine Holt, Elizabeth Saunders, Jennifer Dale, and Jeff Yung along with director David Cronenberg.
In The Shrouds, Vincent Cassel plays Karsh, “a technological entrepreneur still grieving the death of his wife Becca (Kruger) four years earlier. He has thrown himself into his work, devising technologically augmented burial shrouds that let loved ones watch their lost family members decompose. It’s the closest thing to being there with them — and no, it’s not for everyone. But when his wife’s plot is among several desecrated in an apparent act of vandalism, Karsh slips into...

Audiences hungry for David Cronenberg’s infamous brand of body horror may have hoped that 2022’s Crimes of the Future marked his return to the genre. That film, which formed an unofficial trilogy that began with 1983’s Videodrome and continued in 1999’s eXistenZ, featured several callbacks to the Canadian director’s recurring visual and thematic interests.
The Shrouds, Cronenberg’s latest, is even less of a genre film than Crimes of the Future, though it does share its predecessor’s same dark sense of humour, as well as the director’s tendency to revisit or reconsider his previous work.
The film is ostensibly set in 2023, four years after the death of Karsh (Vincent Cassel)’s wife, Becca (Diane Kruger). Becca died of bone cancer and Karsh has yet to recover, as the opening scene of him crying during a visit to the dentist proves.
The introductory scenes also establish the...

Iconic directors named David haven’t been having the best luck with the Netflix streaming service lately. David Lynch recently revealed that Snootworld, an animated movie he hopes to make, had been rejected by Netflix, and now David Cronenberg has said that his new film The Shrouds – which just made its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival (you can read some of the first reactions Here) – was originally intended to be a Netflix TV series, but the streamer dropped it after paying him to write the pilot episode.
During a press conference at Cannes, Cronenberg said (according to The Hollywood Reporter) that he “envisioned the story working well as a series. He flew to Los Angeles to speak with two Netflix execs who financed the writing of a first episode – which they loved. David Cronenberg has opened up on putting his film The Shrouds to Netflix executives as a television series, who greenlit writing a first episode before rejecting the director’s project.
The sci-fi drama, which aired in Cannes to a three-and-a-half minute applause before Cronenberg spoke to the audience, follows Karsh (Vincent Cassel), a prominent businessman and widower who, inconsolable since the death of his wife (Diane Kruger) invents a revolutionary and controversial technology that enables the living to monitor the decomposition of deceased loved ones in their graves.

The Cannes audience gave a respectful embrace to David Cronenberg’s chilly drama The Shrouds, the latest from the Canadian king of horror.
Cronenberg joined castmembers Vincent Cassel, Diane Kruger, Guy Pearce, Sandrine Holt and Elizabeth Saunders to hit the Croisette for the film’s premiere Monday. Cronenberg rocked the red carpet wearing a pair of white rimmed wrap-around 1990s-style plastic sunglasses.
The film was met with applause that went on for three and a half minutes before Cronenberg put an end to it by taking the mic and thanking the crowd. The director explained that it was the first time he had seen the movie with an audience and added, “And it is completely different.”

With their new horror thriller Guess Who, Tubi may finally have come up with a fairly original idea for one of their films. As far as I can tell, it’s the first film to use mummering as a major plot point. No, not mummies, mummering. What is mummering? Mummering is a Christmas-time house-visiting tradition practised in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ireland, and the City of Philadelphia. It adds a touch of Halloween to the season as people would dress in disguise and go door to door. If they were invited in, they’d give some kind of performance while their hosts tried to guess who they were.
Michael and Kaitlyn, his fiancée, are driving out to meet his family when they have to stop for gas.

Even though the series just closed the door on its powerful season earlier this summer, From is still garnering a lot of conversation.
From Season 2 was a massive hit for MGM+, with the fandom expanding exponentially during its second effort. The FROMily showed up week in and week out to chat about the series and helped the horror show grow into a mainstream success.
But with the season having come and gone, now we're left with the questions. When will the series return? Who will be returning? And just what happens after That finale?
Lucky for us, we know that From has been renewed for season 3, as MGM+ gave the thumbs up to a new season shortly after the finale.

Have you recovered from From Season 2 Episode 10?
This season finale will go down in the books as one of the best, with a jaw-dropping twist that still has us scratching our heads.
The ending is the perfect bookend to an incredibly tactile and exhilarating second effort from the series. It took all the promise from its first season and expanded upon the lore to create an equally entertaining run of episodes.
One of the standouts this season was the ever-resilient Donna, played precisely by the illuminating Elizabeth Saunders. Talk about a performer! Elizabeth has done masterful work showing the many different sides of Donna over the first two seasons.
A true fan-favorite, it was wonderful to talk with Elizabeth about Donna's journey and her reaction to that final scene. Hint: it was probably very similar to yours!

From The Twilight Zone to The X-Files, viewers have always been drawn to the creepy and scary. Horror and science fiction have long been capable of telling fantastic tales that are eerie parallels to the real world. When these stories feature monsters and ghosts, we can distance ourselves from the tale. But, when the stories are very close to possible realities, they take on even more frightening potential. While many series try to click with audiences, most fall flat, but one series seems to have found the balance of what viewers want out of these types of stories.
In the great tradition of Lost and Fringe, MGM+ serial thriller series From has improved upon its first season with even more supernatural chills and character development. Season one of MGM+s’ propulsive horror series “From” wasted no time going straight for the jugular and maintaining intensity throughout. It culminated in a ruthless shattering of hope for its wayward characters just as a bus of new characters arrived. “From” Season Two hits the ground running, picking up where the inaugural season left off to compound the mysteries, drama, and relentless horror.
After receiving a warning just as a storm rolled in out of nowhere to decimate the group’s plans to establish contact with the outside world, Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) rushes home to save his wife Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno), unaware that she’d already fallen into the gaping sinkhole beneath their house. As Tabitha and Victor (Scott McCord) fearfully navigate the monster-infested tunnels below, Jim seeks to dig her out with some help from others, just as the house caves in on them.

A couple months ago, we heard that season 2 of the series From would begin airing on MGM+ (formerly known as Epix) on April 23rd. Now a trailer for the new season has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
I haven’t watched the first season of From – our own Alex Maidy has, and said “From definitely is worthy of a multi-season run” (you can read his 7/10 review Here) – so I was surprised to see just how creepy the trailer for season 2 is. A quote in the trailer even confirms the show has creeped out the great Stephen King… so I’m definitely going to have to start watching this series.
