“Kill or Be Killed” (2015) aka “Red on Yella, Kill a Fella,” is a low budget horror-western released on DVD by Rlj Entertainment that also attempts to be a tribute to the spaghetti westerns of the 60s and 70s and Sam Peckinpah’s “The Wild Bunch.” The plot is about a gang of outlaws in the year 1900 traveling 500 miles through Texas to get to a stash of gold that’s hidden at the bottom of a well in the sand dunes of Galveston Beach. The group is hounded on their journey by a mysterious being and one by one the gang members get picked off.
Like Peckinpah’s Wild Bunch these outlaws are a motley crew. Their leader, Claude “Sweet Tooth” Barbee, played by co-writer/director Justin Meeks, is very loosely based on real-life outlaw Sam Bass. As Meeks portrays him, Barbee is a man obsessed with...

The Human Race
Written and Directed by Paul Hough
USA 2012 imdb Fantasia
The Human Race is a grindhouse drive-in classic that happens to have been made years after the drive-in heyday; at least it follows the maxim of legendary drive-in critic Joe Bob Briggs, “the first rule of great drive-in movie-making: Anyone can die at any moment.”
The set-up of The Human Race is that everyone on one city block, 80 souls in total, are snatched from their lives by a white light, dropped into a strange obstacle course and told, “The school, the house and the prison are safe. Follow the arrows or you will die. Stay on the path or you will die. If you are lapped twice, you will die. Do not touch the grass or you will die. Race or die.”
And naturally, there can only be one winner. To paraphrase Glengarry Glen Ross, “Anybody want to see second prize?...

It’s like “The Hunger Games”, minus the plucky female lead. Or is it? The teaser trailer for director Paul Hough’s “The Human Race” doesn’t exactly give away much, including who the lead is, but according to the synopsis below, it’s a lass name “Veronica”, played by one Brianna Lauren Jackson. It also reminds me a bit of “The Running Man”, too. No, not the movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but the original short story by Stephen King. That was a pretty vicious little story, much more than the silly action movie that resulted from it. In any case, check out the teaser trailer for Hough’s “The Human Race”. Talk about running for your life. Ahem. Veronica suddenly finds herself in a surreal and horrifying race. The rules are simple: If you are lapped twice, you die. If you step off the path, you die. The Human Race
Written and Directed by Paul Hough
USA 2012 imdb Fantasia
The Human Race is a grindhouse drive-in classic that happens to have been made years after the drive-in heyday; at least it follows the maxims of legendary drive-in critic Joe Bob Briggs, “the first rule of great drive-in movie-making: Anyone can die at any moment.”

Paul Hough’s feature length debut, The Human Race, will be premiering at the 16th annual Fantasia International Film Festival (which runs from July 19th and August 7th), and I’ll be damned if I’m not compelled to hit the road just to set my eyes on this flick: A trio of new images for the film have now surfaced, and they’re certainly attention grabbers! Hough not only directs, but produces and writes the screenplay as well. Paul McCarthy-Boyington, Eddie McGee, Trista Robinson, T. Arthur Cottam and Brianna Lauren Jackson star.

#1: Paramount to finally release Carriers!
Àlex Pastor and David Pastor's Carriers is finally getting a theatrical release by Paramount Vantage on September 4, 2009. The great looking plague flick stars Lou Taylor Pucci, Chris Pine, Piper Perabo and Emily VanCamp. No doubt their decision to hold the film back has something to do with capitalizing on the Chris Pine buzz that will be around from Star Trek. Smart really. [via: Bloody-Disgusting]
#2: Kevin Macdonald takes on Romans and Asimov's "Eternity"
Kevin Macdonald has made a deal with New Regency to develop and direct "The End of Eternity" by Isaac Asimov. The "futuristic tale concerns a ruling class called Eternity whose members can manipulate time and alter history."
The State of Play director is also making "Eagle of the Ninth," a Roman military drama for Focus Features. [via: Variety]
