Javier Bardem is making his Ryan Murphy debut with the highly-anticipated follow-up to “Dahmer — Monster.” Yet this time, Murphy is bringing another harrowing ’90s true crime story to the screen with the Menendez murders.
Bardem stars alongside longtime Murphy collaborator Chloë Sevigny as José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, who were both brutally murdered by their sons Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik (Cooper Koch). The duo were convicted in 1996. Their case will be the latest installment of the “Monster” anthology series at Netflix with “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”
The official synopsis reads: “While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed — and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole — that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents. ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story...

Two years after the release of “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are returning to Netflix with their latest harrowing saga. “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” will premiere globally on Netflix Sept. 19.
The first teaser for the series sticks to the facts of this chilling case. Bight white text reads “On August 20, 1989 Lyla and Erik Menendez murdered their parents.” the teaser then shows the two brothers entering José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez’s Beverly Hills mansion, shotguns in tow.
No words are spoken as the brothers enter the mansion and cock their weapons. The only other sound that can be heard is the fearful panting of an unknown person. Watch the full teaser below:

Abigail Breslin is subtle as the 1960s victim of sexual crime in a dramatisation of a landmark case that is a welcome defence of US jurisprudence
Here is a fraught and muscular courtroom drama in the strident 1990s style, with the US legal system fitted out with a top-notch cast including Luke Wilson, Ryan Phillippe, Andy Garcia, Donald Sutherland and Kyle MacLachan. As various lawyers and judges, they ditch suit jackets, roll up shirtsleeves and make show-stopping objections in an account of the 1960s legal case that gave rise to the “Miranda rights” – “You have the right to remain silent … ” It’s a welcome defence of US jurisprudence for an era in which it is under threat from Donald Trump’s machinations, and is one that also benefits from the cooperation – apparently for the first time – of Patricia Weir, the rape victim at its centre (otherwise known by the pseudonym...

"I don't want to see you become damaged goods..." "It's not just for me. What about the next girl?" Vertical has revealed an official trailer for the legal thriller film titled Miranda's Victim, getting a direct-to-vod release in October this fall. Based on true events, the film first premiered at the 2023 Santa Barbara Film Festival earlier this year as well as a few other smaller festivals. In 1963, after Trish Weir is kidnapped and sexually assaulted, her assailant is caught and tried. After he confesses without legal representation during the trial, he serves a two-year sentence, only to have the verdict later overturned. This retrial triggers a legal proceeding that forever changes the nation's justice system. As rotten as this sounds, it's what leads to the creation of the "Miranda rights". Abigail Breslin stars with Ryan Phillippe as a vicious defense attorney, plus Luke Wilson, Emily VanCamp, Mireille Enos, Enrique Murciano,...

Spoilers for "The Night Agent" follow.
"The Night Agent" proved to be a success for Netflix, so it's no surprise the platform has renewed the political thriller for a second season. Adapted from a novel by Matthew Quirk, "The Night Agent" follows FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso). He works in the White House's basement, and every shift, he sits next to a phone, waiting for calls from "Night Action" agents in case of an emergency. Peter's first call comes from Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), a niece of two Night Action agents. Rose narrowly escaped a home invasion that claimed her aunt and uncle's lives; she and Peter get thrown into a conspiracy that goes up to the Oval Office.
Quirk's novel was a standalone story, but the series had a more open ending — the creators were aware more seasons were on the table. After preventing the assassination of President...

“The Night Agent” might not be pulling “Wednesday” numbers, but the new thriller series had a very strong first week on Netflix.
The Shawn Ryan-created thriller topped Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV series list in its first week of availability, with 168.71 million hours viewed. That’s the most for Week 1 of a new Netflix series, English-language or otherwise, since “Wednesday.” And we’re only counting four days of viewing, as “The Night Agent” debuted on a Thursday; Sunday night is Netflix’s weekly cutoff.
Beyond new debuts, “The Night Agent’s” start was the single best week for a show since Season 2 of “Ginny & Georgia” premiered to 180 hours viewed. Last week marked the third-biggest week for the debut of a Netflix show since the streamer started publicizing the Top 10 lists.

Plot: A sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low-level FBI Agent who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office.
Review: Spies, conspiracies, double agents, and cyberterrorism. Remember when these were quaint plot devices on screens, big and small? It feels like a streaming service debuts a new espionage story every few weeks. Some try to upend convention while others stick frustratingly close to formula, but few seem to break outside the box to do something unique with the genre. The Night Agent, based on the best-selling novel by Matthew Quirk, plays like an extended origin story that mines a tried and true plot without really uncovering any gems. Despite solid chemistry from the leads and a couple of surprising supporting performances,...

The Night Agent is a series created by Shawn Ryan starring Gabriel Basso. It is based on the novel by Matthew Quirk.
A call, an FBI agent and a conspiracy: the elements of the thriller are defined in just ten minutes.
About the Series
And the fact is that The Night Agent is a series that is not in the least misleading: a protagonist dedicated to good and an action script structure that jumps from one scene to another in a series that knows which strings to pluck and simply acts accordingly.
Absolutely nothing bad, but nothing that will be surprising either. A series with the tension of a John Grisham (without lawyers) in literature, close to Jack Ryan, although more devoted to intrigue and suspense than to action.
The Hollywood industry draws on what it knows best, from the well-executed suspense thriller, with its rhythm, the structured script, sometimes vacuous,...

"The more you know, the more dangerous this becomes." Netflix has unveiled the full-length official trailer for the mystery thriller series The Night Agent, available for streaming later in March, based on the book of the same name by Matthew Quirk. A low-level FBI agent, Peter Sutherland, who works in the basement of the White House, watches a phone that never rings – until the night it does, sending him into a conspiracy that leads all the way to the Oval Office. "This is the story of the night it rings." This seems to involve an assassination plot, along with even deeper conspiracies. Meet the Night Agent this spring - starring Gabriel Basso as Sutherland. Plus Luciane Buchanan, Hong Chau, D.B. Woodside, Enrique Murciano, Eve Harlow, Sarah Desjardins, Fola Evans-Akingbola, & Phoenix Raei. I'm actually into this, looks like it has good twists & solid action. Seems better than most of these series...
