Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the famed therapist and talk show host who became one of America’s most prominent voices on sex, has died at the age of 96.
Westheimer died Friday at her home in New York, the sex guru’s spokesperson confirmed to the New York Times. No cause of death was provided.

Pop singer and former Dance Moms / Nickelodeon star JoJo Siwa is facing online backlash for apparently lifting Tool’s wrench design, used as the cover of their 1991 demo 72826 and various merch, for an apparent new merch drop of her own.
Siwa took to TikTok to unveil a vest and T-shirt design that only slightly varies from the Tool’s infamous phallic wrench. The main differences: The top head of Jojo’s wrench is angled to the right; “Jojo” replaces the “Tool” text on the handle; and the two bottom heads of the wrench have a different inner profile.
The merch looks to be tied to the release of Siwa’s new EP Guilty Pleasure, which drops on Friday (July 12th). A teaser of the music video for the title track shows a construction theme in line with the aforementioned merch.

Wabeno – Gene Simmons is becoming something of a Wisconsin northwoods regular, and even in the leather pants and rock star cowboy boots, he fits right in. The Kiss legend was back at Potawatomi Casino Hotel Carter on Tuesday to open the newest and 25th Rock & Brews restaurant in the franchise he co-founded with bandmate Paul Stanley. He hammed it up with local media, swiping microphones and flipping up the collars of his interviewers, and sat down with Green Bay’s Wixx-FM morning show co-hosts Huggie, Natalie & Corey for a chat minus the usual radio questions. He posed for...

The family of the Kiss guitar tech who died after contracting Covid during the band’s End of the Road World Tour won a round in their wrongful death lawsuit against the band, as the band’s motion to have the case tossed was overruled in court in Los Angeles on Friday.

Gene Simmons has admitted that he wished his ex-bandmates Ace Frehley and Peter Criss would have been a part of the Kiss “farewell” cycle that concluded last year, but added that it was their own actions that prevented it from happening.
In a new interview, Simmons bemoaned the fact that he wasn’t harder on his bandmates about their past affinities for alcohol and drugs, which he believes led to both Ace and Peter exiting and rejoining Kiss multiple times during the band’s five-plus-decade run. As Simmons told YouTube channel Backstage Pass, as someone who didn’t indulge in those vices, he found it difficult to relate.
“Well, I’m sad in retrospect — you know, hindsight’s 20/20 — I’m sad that I wasn’t more hard on Ace and Peter, the two original guys who played guitar and drums in the band,” said Simmons when asked if there was...

After much controversy surrounding whether Israel should be allowed to compete in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, their entry received boos during a dress rehearsal for the competition’s semi-finals.
Israel contestant Eden Golan, who is performing the song “Hurricane” as the country’s entry, began the rehearsal as normal — but shortly after she began, the crowd erupted in boos, with several audience members shouting “Free Palestine.” Despite the reception they garnered, Israel will continue with their performance of “Hurricane” for the second leg of the competition’s semi-finals, which take place this evening in Sweden. Watch clips of the rehearsal below.
Israel’s participation in the competition has been opposed by many groups — both in the host country Sweden and abroad — due to their ongoing military decimation of the Gaza Strip. Fellow Eurovision performers have also condemned the decision to include Israel, including Ireland entrant and confirmed finalist Bambie Thug...

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has said that he’s open to the idea of a Pink Floyd hologram show, à la Abba Voyage, but only under a “series of very, very difficult and onerous conditions.”
The comments came in a new interview with Uncut, ahead of Gilmour’s first new album in nearly a decade, Luck and Strange (due on September 6th). Revealing that he and his wife, Polly Samson, had been invited to watch the Abba Voyage show, the guitarist explained that he wasn’t quite blown away with the visuals of the hologram format, but appreciated the music.
“If you were a determined Abba fan, you might enjoy it,” he said (per NME). “I thought the images of them were sort of Ok, but they weren’t ever going to convince me it was real. If you’re down the sort of mosh pit end of the...

American Idol fans are fuming about the voting and they claim that Nya should have won, but instead, she was eliminated. Actually, there has been more drama this season, and it seems that Katy Perry might not be missed after they called her out for being “cruel” to Odell Bunton Jr. She’d made him think he was out when he was really passed through by the judges.

The reality TV talent show already upset a lot of people when the judges kept Kayko and sent away Abby Blake. [Warning: The below contains spoilers for American Idol.] American Idol competition rolled on into a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-themed night. These talented singers and budding artists took on legendary music from inductees over the years. Helping them ahead of Sunday’s performances was their mentor, Kiss icon Gene Simmons, who watched the live program from a trademark throne. The Top 14 had to face the judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie but it was the people who they had to win over. That’s because America’s votes during the live show ultimately decided who made up the Top 12 and who would leave the competition. Luke got the party started with a performance of John Mellencamp’s “Small Town,” looking to have recovered from falling off the stage during a Vancouver concert the night before. Adding to the evening’s festivities was host Ryan Seacrest and Lionel breaking the news of the upcoming 2024 Rock...

The first live coast-to-coast episode of “American Idol” Season 22 aired on Sunday, April 21 on ABC, with the Top 14 contestants performing in front of host Ryan Seacrest, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, and guest mentor Gene Simmons. Viewers all across the nation voted 19.9 million times throughout the two-hour episode, which had a theme of “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” and the Top 12 artists made it to the next round. In the end, the two singers who were eliminated were Nya and Jordan Anthony.
Throughout the competition, Nya sang tunes like “Wait a Minute!” (Auditions round), “Get Ready” (Showstopper round), “The Best” (Top 24 round), “Georgia on My Mind”, “Water” and “I Say a Little Prayer” (Top 14 round). The 28-year-old Broadway performer from Manhattan, New York was an early favorite on the show, but the judges had to save her last week when she placed in the bottom — never a good sign.

If you've seen the trailers for Guy Ritchie's new movie "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," there's one zany aspect that likely stood out to you. The historically-based action flick seems to be having fun with its Nazi-killing sequences, so much so that Henry Cavill's hero can be seen sticking his tongue out like a rock star on stage every time he kills a German soldier. It's a weird, memorable detail that was improvised on the spot by Ritchie and Cavill, according to the latter's new interview with Variety.
"It was a co-improvisation between Guy and myself," the actor explained when speaking to Variety at the film's premiere this week. Apparently, it came about when the writer-director, presumably having shot a few takes the expected way, started encouraging Cavill to get a bit wild. "Guy said, 'I want you to have more fun with it. Stick your tongue out or something,...

The Top 14 were revealed in a live two-hour broadcast of “American Idol” Monday night. Host Ryan Seacrest called the Top 20 to the stage, one-by-one, telling them if America had voted them through or they’d have to be saved by judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Each contestant sang regardless of the results, and in our recent poll viewers named Abi Carter the best of the night. Watch her stirring rendition of “My Mind” by Yebba above.
By the end of the evening Ajii, Odell Benton Jr., Jennifer Jeffries, Kennedy Reid, Mackenzie Sol and Quintavious were eliminated from the competition. They round out the Top 14 who will sing for America’s votes on “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night” on Sunday, April 21. Kiss frontman Gene Simmons will mentor the finalists.

JoJo Siwa showed up at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards in an interesting costume. She had her face painted up similar to Kiss bassist Gene Simmons while wearing a revealing black and silver leather and fishnet outfit. It turned a lot of heads. It also brought out the people who love to hate everything about the former reality TV star.
However, Gene Simmons said he loved how JoJo dressed and defended the young star.

Kiss are the latest artists to sell off their music catalog — and, in this case, their well-known onstage personas and makeup — for big money.
The band — which closed out its (alleged) farewell tour in December 2023 — announced they have sold the rights to their music and imagery to Pophouse, the Swedish company that created the Abba Voyage hologram show and is working on a similar project involving Kiss.
While the price wasn’t revealed in a joint press release, Fortune reports that Kiss raked in upwards of $300 million in the sale.

The recently retired Kiss has sold its music catalog, likeness and brand name to Swedish entertainment firm Pophouse. Financial terms were not disclosed, but The Associated Press reports the deal is estimated to be over $300 million.
“As part of the partnership, Pophouse will create digital versions of Kiss that will allow the band and their unique personas to live forever,” Pophouse and Kiss said in a press release announcing the deal. “Through a magical combination of cutting-edge technology and unrivaled creativity, Pophouse will bring the full, authentic Kiss experience to both existing and new fans for years to come.” The avatar show is slated to launch in 2027.
As part of the deal, Pophouse CEO Per Sundin says a biopic, a documentary and a Kiss experience also are planned.

The Story: It is the future (like say – 1989). Robots are now commonplace, being used for everything from manual labor to childcare. But, robots go bad and when they do, the LAPD calls in Sgt. Jack R. Ramsay (Tom Selleck), an expert in so-called “Runaways”. When a madman (Gene Simmons) invents a microchip that turns all robots into runaways, Ramsay, and his new partner (Cynthia Rhodes) must put a stop to his evil plan – the fate of the world just may depend on it! Oh, and also Ramsay is afraid of heights. Trust me, that’s important.
The Players: Starring: Tom Selleck, Cynthia Rhodes, Kirstie Alley, G. W. Bailey and Gene Simmons. Written and directed by Michael Crichton.
The History: While most famous for his novels, Michael Crichton actually had a decent Hollywood career as a director, having a couple of solid hits under his belt by the time 1984 rolled around.

A group of artists set to perform in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest — including England’s Olly Alexander — issued a statement defending their participation amid calls to boycott Israel’s presence in this year’s competition.
In recent weeks, groups ranging from the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel to Queers for Palestine — which specifically called on Alexander, who previously said Israel was an “apartheid state,” to withdraw — have sought to have Israel expelled from Eurovision over the continued conflict in Gaza.

Adam Wingard, director of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is discussing possibly making a third film to complete the MonsterVerse trilogy.
“Only time will tell,” Wingard told Deadline during the film’s premiere. “I think the seductive thing as a filmmaker when you’ve done two movies is to complete it as this trilogy — that’s always what everybody expects.”
He continued, “We’ll see. It really depends on how the movie does. I think that there’s a lot of really cool ideas we have [about] where we would go with it. I’m open to it and excited for what the future brings.”

The Beatles‘ “Love Me Do” is one of those bubblegum pop songs like The Monkees’ “Daydream Believer” or The Archies’ “Sugar, Sugar” that is perfect in its simplicity. Paul McCartney said he and John Lennon had no idea what they were doing when they wrote the song. John said the tune was markedly different from later Beatles tunes like “Penny Lane.”
Paul McCartney need help from ‘grown-ups’ during The Beatles’ ‘Love Me Do’ era
During a 2012 interview with The Independent, Paul recalled what it was like writing songs with John during the “Love Me Do” era. “Writing songs we’d never done, except that when John and I first met, one of our conversations was: ‘What do you do?’ ‘Oh, you’ve written a couple of songs.’ ‘Oh, I’ve written a couple too,'” he recalled. “So we showed our songs to each other and agreed they weren’t...

Spoiler Alert: This article continues spoilers for the film “Drive-Away Dolls.”
In Ethan Coen’s “Drive-Away Dolls,” an homage to the colorful, brash world of exploitation cinema, there’s a notable cameo from none other than Miley Cyrus. Cyrus appears in a psychedelic swirl of flashbacks as Tiffany Plastercaster, seen titillating a college-aged version of Matt Damon’s character, who will come to be a conservative Senator in Florida. Plastercaster does as her name implies, crafting a replica dildo for the aspiring politician’s stimulated member.
It may sound far-fetched, but Cyrus’ cameo is inspired by Cynthia Plaster Caster — real name Cynthia Albritton — the artist and groupie who famously cast the genitals of musicians and others in plaster, from Jimi Hendrix to The Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra.
Albritton, who died in 2022, also cast female breasts in later years in an effort to even the playing field, with subjects including Karen O,...

In the 1980s, Hollywood didn’t quite know what to do with Rutger Hauer. The actor broke out in a pretty major way following his acclaimed turn in Paul Verhoeven’s Soldier of Orange, paving the way for his American debut in the Sylvester Stallone thriller Nighthawks, where he played the villain Wulfgar. His performance as Roy Batty in Blade Runner blew people away, and for a while, it looked like he might become the next big Hollywood heartthrob, especially when he signed on to star in the epic adventure film Ladyhawke opposite Michelle Pfeiffer for Richard Donner.
But major stardom didn’t happen? Why? Perhaps it was because the movies of Hauer’s that did best at the box office were the ones where he played the villain, such as The Hitcher. He was so unforgettable as a bad guy that when he played a hero, such as in...

Last year, we heard that Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss would be launching a new production company with Gary Hamilton (so the company is appropriately called Simmons/Hamilton Productions), and the first project they had given the greenlight was a shark thriller called Deep Water – with Deep Blue Sea director Renny Harlin attached to take the helm of the film! That film has since made its way through production, and a couple days ago we learned that the cast includes Aaron Eckhart of Harlin’s The Bricklayer, Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), Molly Wright (Netflix’s True Spirit), Angus Sampson (Mad Max: Fury Road), Kelly Gale (Plane), singer and actor Li Wenhan, who is a member of the Chinese-Korean K-Pop group Uniq, and Nashi (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms). Now a first look image has made its way online, and it shows the characters played by Eckhart and Wright.

A group of 400 actors, musicians and entertainment execs including Helen Mirren, Liev Schreiber and Gene Simmons have penned an open letter supporting the decision for Israel to remain in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Despite boasting some of the simplest and most uninspired (if occasionally very catchy) songs of the 1970s, the shock rock act built a loyal following and merchandising empire around the novel idea of wearing makeup while singing. Their onstage theatrics and commitment to rock and rolling all night and partying every day — tons of people can do one or the other, but...
First, the spoiler-free pitch for one editor’s midnight movie pick — something weird and wonderful from any age of film that deserves our memorializing.
Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.

Gene Simmons is swiftly entering his post-Kiss era.

“Gene Simmons’ new solo band will be the surprise attraction of the second edition of Summer Breeze Open Air Brasil,” the festival wrote on Facebook. The Gene Simmons band will perform on April 26.

Kiss recently played their final concert ever, but singer-bassist Gene Simmons is not ready to quit performing quite yet.
Simmons has booked a date with his solo project, Gene Simmons Band, at the Brazil edition of the Summer Breeze festival on April 26th in São Paulo. It’s the first post-kiss activity from any of the remaining band members, and the announcement comes just over a month after Kiss retired from performing in human, non-avatar form after two concerts at Madison Square Garden.
Simmons’ solo band last played in 2018 and typically runs through a setlist comprised of Simmons-penned Kiss material and deep cuts. The band’s current lineup is rounded out by guitarists Brent Woods and Zach Throne (Corey Taylor) and drummer Brian Tichy.
For Simmons, the solo shows have offered a more intimate setting — and one where he can dig deep into Kiss’ songbook.
“Doing these smaller concert halls,...

During Kiss’ final concert earlier this month, the (allegedly) retiring band announced plans to continue on as digital avatars. On Friday, the Destroyer act revealed when their “new era” will begin: 2027.
“50 years is a long time, and what the future holds is in the making,” Kiss said in their latest promotional video trumpeting their digital forms. “A show is coming.”
Heralded as the big surprise to close out the band’s “final” gig at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Kiss premiered their avatars, created in collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic.
