As of about 3pm, we have electricity, heat, hot water, and the ability to cook food. Servers are back online as of about 9:30 PM - datavore took the opportunity to do some reorganization while the servers were still powered down. His update is here.

As of yesterday, I'm on the opposite end of the continent than I usually am. I'm in Boston through Wednesday the 1st. Nobody burn down my house, my city, or my dog while I'm gone, 'kay?

FYI, mail and web are down on any Nerdvana-owned domains (midgard, epiglyph, sixmore, martian, others I'm probably forgetting). The MOO server is up, so I'm guessing rigel has tossed his cookies again.

EDIT: Fixed now - the server wasn't routing over the T1, and I had Speakeasy shut down the DSL line earlier today.

DSL appears to be down at nerdvana at the moment, so sixMore is temporarily unavailable. Luckily, datavore is already on his way home for lunch, so it should be back up shortly (presuming it's the typical DSL-bridge-locked-up-again problem, and not the longer-duration and more-annoying Speakeasy-fucked-up-again problem).

EDIT: It's back up. The cleaning service accidentally cut power to the DSL bridge while dusting.

I just finished the On-Call Week From Hell. Eleven page-outs and a late night maintenance window over the course of seven days, during which my phone threatened to eat itself, and then datavore threatened to eat my phone.

I forgot to shower all weekend, and only left the house six times last week: four times for work, one 15min trip to the grocery store, and out to dinner on Sunday with Marty, beaq, and hollyking (who came up to stay the night so he could be fresh for the next day's job interviews).

Holy fuck, but I'm TIRED. Looking forward to Spa Night tonight with sirriamnis, rubylou, and friends. I desperately need a massage, or my head is going to pop off.

Once upon a time in the mid to late '90s, there was this social networking site called Six Degrees. It was pretty good, if somewhat limited. But, like most dot.com doohickeys with no real revenue model, they ran out of money, and now their domain is being used by yet another lame blog site.

datavore, aka Marty, aka that dork I've dated/lived with for the last 7 1/2 years, has been working on (and by "working on" I mean "has spent every free moment of the last several weeks poking at/noodling with/screaming at") a quasi-replacement. It just passed the 100-user mark this weekend*, and you should go check it out.

Now keep in mind, this site is so very beta. Features and enhancements are changing on a daily (and in some cases hourly) basis. But it's fun, and it's interesting, and Marty could use more feedback from more sources than just me.

If you do sign up, please, for the love of all that's (un)holy, link to someone. And use your real name, or some recognizable combination of your real name and nickname. The point of this exercise is *social* networking, after all, and names like "Wolf" or "Raven" or "JR" and the like are ridiculously nonspecific. This ain't OKCupid, folks.

If you read datavore, you probably already know that nerdvana has lost power, most likely the result of this bitchkitty of a wind storm we're experiencing in Seattle. The lights have been off for 6+ hours now, and Seattle City Light can't give us any info on when they might be back on.

Ordinarily I'd roll with it and make do with candles, but I'm the backup on-call for my department this week. The night shift is shorthanded tonight, which means electricity and, more importantly, internet access are somewhat important. Plus the fact that it's supposed to get down into the low 30s (F) tonight, and the electric start for the furnace is out of commission. So, with dog in tow, we've bailed out to the Hotel Monaco again - it's fast becoming our de facto dog-friendly household-disaster shelter.

Cellphones are working, we've got wifi at the hotel, but all our domains and primary email addresses are dead for the duration. Hopefully the power will be back on by morning...
