Since 2011 The Torch has been providing art, cultural and arts industry support to Indigenous offenders and ex-offenders in Victoria. Our aim is to reduce the rate of reoffending by encouraging the exploration of identity and culture through art programs to define new pathways upon release. The program supports artists to reconnect with culture, earn income from art sales, foster new networks and to pursue educational and creative industry avenues upon their release. âIn the past I was a crook, you know, a jail bird, but now I am an artist. My daughter is so proud of that. I never used to think of myself that way.â Chris Austin (Gunditjmara Keerraaywoorrong) Website: thetorch.org.au Online Gallery: thetorch.org.au/shop-2
