lilly_c: I have a real problem with stillness with just stopping and being quiet black text white background (Stillness)
Intro post of sorts, I'm a bit rubbish at these things so bear with me while I stumble my way through. Like it says on my bio, I'm quite friendly although I don't often friend first unless I know you from other places like comms, or general fandom and have interacted with you but do feel free to add. With almost all of my posts locked, the only public ones are tagged please do have a read of those, if lurking is your thing, I really don't mind.

Me: I've been in fandom for years. I grew up in West Yorkshire and now I live in Aberdeen. I have dyslexia and dyspraxia and I try not to let either disability rule my life. I support Leeds Rhinos, Sydney Roosters and Liverpool FC.

Fannish: Fangirl of many flavours. I tend to like most things fannish, even when I only watch/read and avoid participating in fandom. My current favourites are Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Prodigy, Bob's Burgers, Final Space, classic sci-fi and horror movies, The Brokenwood Mysteries, Obliterated and live sport especially rugby league and sometimes soccer..
Past favourites that I still watch from time to time are: Simpsons, X-Files, Law & Order (all), Star Trek (all), American Dad, Taggart, Wycliffe, Muppets, Marvel (very selectively) Stargate (SG-1), Priscilla, Rizzoli & Isles, kids cartoons, and many more, these are just off the top of my head.

Ships I like are Sam/Daniel (SG-1) they were my first and are still an OTP for me. Janeway/Chakotay more so now then when I was younger. Robbie/Jackie, Jackie & Karen (Taggart), Jack/Danielle (Killer Instinct), Peggy/Jack (Agent Carter), Alex/Olivia (L&O: SVU). I also other ships these are my absolute favourites.

I like reading, I'm dyslexic and just ridiculously slow at it. I prefer Non fiction especially film and TV, music and sport. Roald Dahl's children's novels, Ian Rankin's Rebus series, Frances Brody's Kate Shackleton series, Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli & Isles series, 1984, rugby league match day programs. I also like audiobooks and really need to find time to get in touch with RNIB to resume receiving a selection from their library in the post.

Creative: I write fic, make icons, make wallpapers and occasionally dabble in music videos and fanmixes. All of these are available at [community profile] alittleimprobable, feel free to track any tags that are of interest to you. Update frequency does vary so some months there's several new pieces and some months there are none.

Obsessed: Music is oxygen and it has been the one constant in my life, for as long as I can remember I've always had music in one capacity or another. I listen to pretty much everything and will listen to anything at least once although I've never been able to get into classical, opera and some of the reality TV groups. My favourite bands and singers are almost all Australian, there are a few exceptions though.

Elseweb: Away from DW I'm on I'm also on bsky, SquidgeWorld, AO3, and last.fm. Basically if a username is lillyc, lilly_c, l1llyc or l1lly_c then it's more than likely me but do double check with me if you're not sure.

I'm also the founder of Adult Dyslexia Group, often shortened to ADG, we have a presence on[community profile] adg_aberdeen and bksy a non profit for adults who have dyslexia and live in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, updates on DW and bluesky for ADG are few and far between as I've discovered that word of mouth locally has been far superior to any online marketing that I can come up with.

lilly_c: Robbie and Jackie standing in a suspect's garden in Fallen Angel (Robbie & Jackie - front yard)
I've been meaning to have something like this done for ages and kept putting it off. I pretty much post everything under f-lock and the few public posts are generally there all of the time. For [community profile] snowflake_challenge and similar events I post publicly then lock them a couple of weeks after the challenge is over, if you've come here from a comment of mine on those challenges and the post is locked just let me know and I'll change it public for a short time. All of my fic and art is available at [community profile] alittleimprobable and although I do cross-post somethings to AO3/Squidge I prefer comments on DW as it is my online and fannish home.

Diver - Porca Quay

lilly_c: An empty section of Aberdeen beach on a clear and sunshine day (Aberdeen beach in the sunshine)
The new memorial to lives lost at sea at Porca Quay which is at the very far end of the beach beside Fittie and Silver Darling restaurant. I took these really early this morning, I was out of the house by 7am for a very long run which was mostly in the rain.

Behind the cut is the seven photos I took and I've added alt-text as much as I can but only underneath because using the alt='' in the image embed code borks somehow and gah!, thumbnail to 600x600 and as always clicky for bigger if you want to do that.

I could drop all my lines, I could throw my ropes into the water I could change my mind now today looks the same as tomorrow )

It's taken me a while to get to this point but I have finally finished the last of my summer mini challenge tables. I've organised it by date posted and into separate years. Anything higher than a 12 rating will have 15 or 18 coloured coded in red and while all of the fills are fairly work safe, there are only four or five fics that have content notes attached to them and that’s more of a just in case on my end than anything else.

The total is 55 fics across 11 prompt tables with 2 revised version fics and 16 fandoms, totalling close to 29,000 words. I always say that this challenge is harder than it looks and that’s maybe because I’ve only managed to complete a table twice while it’s on since my first year in 2012. All of the links below the cut go to the original DW posts (all are tagged with length, challenge info, rating, fandom, pairing – feel free to prod around) and as a series on Squidge | AO3 | Ad Astra (Star Trek fic fills only for that last one, obviously) and as always, I prefer comments on DW as it is my online home.

One thing I love doing is booking a day trip or going through all of the options on Traveline Scotland and getting a day out somewhere regardless of if it's somewhere I've been loads of times or it's somewhere new to me. When I moved to Scotland 14 years ago (doesn't feel like it's been that long at all!) I was convinced that I'd be at home most of the time and spending as much of my free time at the beach as I can just because it's in walking distance for me, I do all of those things but I also get around as much as I can for a disabled person who is also not a driver because one of my disability affects the vital coordination needed for driving.

I tend to book my day trips through Rabbies (four starting locations within Scotland, currently branching out to rUK and Europe) Discover Scotland (two starting locations within Scotland) and Timberbush (three starting locations within Scotland, offer 10% discount for returning customers phone or email to get that) while these are aimed more towards international tourists, they are good for local people to use too for home tourism (I know there's a proper term for it and I've forgot it already) and for my more random days out I just use local buses, trains, Megabus/Citylink and spend a few hours wherever I've decided to go.

lilly_c: Jack pointing his gun badass in white text (Jack - badass)
A while back I printed off this mushroom and leek spaghetti recipe and today I made it but I had to adapt it a wee bit because I didn't have a couple of the listed ingredients in the cupboard. Would maybe make it again but with more veg because what I used, roughly two and a half handfuls of each veg looked minimal when I added it to the pasta. It still took around 20 minutes to cook, vegetarian (possibly vegan; can be adapted to gluten free just use that type of pasta), so it's fairly quick and also really easy (I say this as someone who's disabilities make certain simple everyday tasks really flipping difficult some days.)

So my slightly adapted version of this and there's a pic under a cut. I don't own kitchen measuring scales so I improvise ;)
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil (or any cooking oil) and I may use less oil next time. Original says two tablespoons of oil.

  • 2 handfuls (equivalent to a filled to the top small mug) of dischi volanti (this in place of spaghetti.) I may use slightly less pasta/spaghetti next time because it was a lot more than I thought it would be!

  • 2 to 3 handfuls of frozen leeks (presliced) in a cereal bowl

  • 2 to 3 handfuls of frozen mushrooms (presliced) in a cereal bowl

  • 1 teaspoon of mixed herbs. I had no garlic jars left other wise it would have been half and half.

For the last part of step 3 on the original recipe, instead of tossing, I left the drained off pasta in the colander for maybe a minute and then added in the cooked mushroom and leek, stirred it all then plated up. I also didn't bother with breadcrumbs or using lemon.

This might be one of those rare pasta/spaghetti recipes that is just as nice when eaten cold the next day. May do that the next time I make this.
