Ho, Ho, Ho!

It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is It’s All About Santa.

Today’s art journal page was created using a cute Santa themed card topper set – Season’s Greetings everyone!

For my Santa page: I simply cut covered the cardstock from the Topper Set into panels and covered the background with them using Crafter’s Companion Glue Tape pen; I applied silver border outline stickers to finish the vertical edges of the cardstock where they met; and finally I added all images from the topper set using double-sided foam tape.

For more inspiration, please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the wonderful creations from our Guest Designer and the rest of my Design Teamies.

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Happy and creative wishes! x

Cakes almost too good to eat

It’s my hubby’s birthday month which means a visit to Harwoods Patisserie. Inspired by the unique autumnal cake designs I combined autumn ephemera and recycled the cake boxes to create this unique art journal page (smile!).

In this heartwarming art journaling tribute, I’m celebrating the whimsical world of mushroom and pumpkin cakes through mixed media art.

This video takes you on my creative journey and shows my step-by-step approach as I explore the world of art and craft to capture these amazingly designed cakes.

The mixed media that I used to create this page was card stock, recycled patisserie cake boxes, outline border stickers, autumn ephemera, Crafter’s Companion glue tape and Stix2 double sided foam tape.

Here’s the yummy cakes with the cake boxes, that I recycled for my page, from Harwoods Patisserie, which were:

  • Pear and Caramelised White Chocolate Mushroom- cinnamon poached pear with white chocolate mousse on a digestive biscuit base.
  • Pumpkin – pumpkin seed praline mousse, parkin cake with a caramel centre.
  • The mini cakes from left to right were Treacle Tart, Pumpkin and Orange Delice.

Harwoods Patisserie offers a different cake selection to match the season and they are so delicious!

Stay safe and well! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Adventures Await

Adventures await at Lytham Hall and today, following my post last week, I’m sharing a page that reminds me of their enchanting and magical willow sculptures (smile!).

In this video, I’ll take you on a fun journey as we explore the whimsical world of art journaling inspired by the beauty of willow sculptures and nature.

https://youtube.com/shorts/Mis6502GgQQ

I had fun replicating a willow circle using Sizzix Thinlits die cuts and some Tim Holtz Kraft Cardstock, it forms the backdrop for my Stamperia Alterego deer. I hope you’ll join me and watch my video as I delve into the world of mixed media art, experimenting with textures, colours, and techniques to create a one-of-a-kind art journal page that I hope will inspire your imagination and spark your creativity (smile).

The mixed media I used to create this page includes Distress Ink, Liquitex Matte gel medium, Stamperia Paper Cuts and Ephemera, Faber-Castell Marker, Sizzix Thinlits Die Cuts, Tim Holtz Kraft Cardstock, Crafter’s Companion glue tape pen, Stix2 double-sided foam tape, washi stickers and Liquitex acrylic ink.

You may remember, from last week’s post, this handsome fellow just hanging around .

This lioness and cub can be found by the Hall itself, looking out over the grounds from the small hillock that they created for them.

These amazing hares can be found boxing in the woods nearby.

You may also recognise this character from a Wallace & Gromit animated film; Gromit is on his scooter as you can find him near the entrance to the car park. All of these stunning willow sculptures were created by a very talented local artist, Helena Mellenchip.

I hope that you enjoyed our adventures at Lytham Hall; we managed to miss one of the sculptures though, maybe we’ll find it next time (smile!).

We had fun at Lytham Hall and the willow sculptures made us smile, as did these hot chocolates that we enjoyed at a local café; as T Stands For Tuesday this photo allows me to join the T Gang and wish you all a very Happy T Day!

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Happy and creative wishes! x

Challenges

The lovely Neet from blog Hickydorums is hosting over at Art Journal Journey this month; she has chosen It Must Have Wings as her theme and so I’m joining with the butterfly that I added to my page.

Beurre Patisserie Inspired Art Journal

This page was inspired by a visit to Beurre Patisserie; I recycled the pretty pink cake boxes as part of my design which feature the skyline of my home town (smile!).

Please see the video below, and join me on a deliciously creative adventure as I craft a whimsical art journal inspired by the shopfront and sweet treats of this local patisserie; here’s the link to my YouTube channel Let’s Art Journal so, if you wish, you can like this video and subscribe to my channel.

In this video, we’ll dive into the world of art journaling, combining soft colours, playful textures, and delightful patterns to create a one-of-a-kind journal that’s as charming as a Beurre Patisserie in Lytham St. Annes. From elegant cakes to decadent macarons, we’ll draw inspiration from the intricate details and ornate designs of their shop and even recycle the Patisserie cake boxes to create a truly unique art journal.

For this mixed media art page, I recycled the cake boxes and used a combination of Distress Paints, outline stickers and Stamperia ephemera.

Beurre Patisserie opened last year (smile!).

These are the macarons on display in the shop; my hubby had the raspberry and also the Salted Caramel ones, which were delicious!

Here are our cakes, you may remember the Almond Hop pink bunny from my Easter post, and we also had, from their normal daily menu, a Chocolate, Raspberry & Vanilla Pannacotta (single origin macae chocolate cremeux, vanilla & yoghurt pannacotta, raspberry compote dipped in a dark chocolate coating) and my personal favourite Rhubarb & Custard Tart (poached English rhubarb compote, vanilla Crème Brule cremeux topped with a light vanilla whipped mousse) – so very very yummy!

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Challenges

The lovely Neet from blog Hickydorums is hosting over at Art Journal Journey this month; she has chosen It Must Have Wings as her theme and I’m so happy to join her as I added “wing shutters” to my page.

Love to travel

It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is Romance.

I loved creating this romantic Oriental Tea Garden page with the little birds sitting amongst the blossoms anticipating spring and spreading love and joy; the red leaves and teapot reminded me of our recent trip to Tenerife (smile!).

To create this page, I used papers from an 8×8 Oriental Garden paper pad by Stamperia. I covered the page with a piece of leftover paper (that I’d used on another project) and have just realised that I put the paper wrongly because the text is meant to run down the page in order to read it – oops! Then I tore the bird, wall and branch images from another of the pad pages and arranged them onto the page using Liquitex matte gel medium. Once dry, I edged the torn papers using a Dark Grey Faber-Castell marker and a black UniPin fine line marker smudging the ink with my finger. Next, I cut out the teapot tag and “Love” and “Joy” tags from the paper pad and mounted them onto some red paper from the same pad. I used a Crop-A-Dile tool to punch the holes in the tags and looped some Trimits waxed thread through them, creating knots which looked oriental. The tags were stuck in place using Stix2 double-sided foam tape and I used a Warm Grey TriBlend Spectrum Noir to add some shadows under the tags and also around the torn edges of the papers. I lightly splattered the page with white Liquitex acrylic ink and to finish, added the white flowers to create blossom on the trees.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the wonderful creations from our Guest Designer and the rest of my Design Teamies.

We recently went to Puerto del a Cruz, Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain where there are some beautifully landscaped streets; we came across these red leaf trees which reminded me of my page.

Of course, we couldn’t resist buying some loose leaf tea from this teashop (smile!).

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing my oriental garden page with the teapot tag and also some of the fabulous selection of teapots at the shop; I think the some of them even look a little like the one that I included on my page – Happy T Day everyone!

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Happy and creative wishes! x

Butterfly

It’s time for a new challenge at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is Make It Colourful.

I started this page by covering the page with Pébéo white gesso and then I collaged some leftover colourful papers around the edges, which were all from a Amazonia paper pad by Stamperia, using Liquitex matte gel medium.

Next I used a Stamperia stencil to add Ranger Texture Paste to the blank space, where there was no collaged paper. When the texture paste was dry, I added colour to the background using red Lustre wax and a wet wipe, and I edged the papers with a white Uniball gel pen. The butterflies and wording was fussy cut from the same paper pad, I edged them with a black Faber-Castell marker and then I arranged them down the centre of the page using glue dots. To finish, I splattered the page with white Liquitex acrylic ink.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the colourful creations from our Guest Designer and the rest of my Design Teamies.

I’m still making it colourful, but this time over at T Stands for Tuesday with this array of loose leaf teas from a local supermarket, which will you choose? Happy T Day everyone!

Stay safe and well! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Challenges

As well as Try it on Tuesday, I’m pleased to be joining Art Journal Journey and Aimeslee‘s Anything Goes challenge with my page.

Wonderfully Wild at Art Journal Journey

I’m so pleased and honoured to be hosting Art Journal Journey this month.

The challenge theme that I’ve chosen is Wonderfully Wild

Of course this could be a wild animal, a wildly coloured background or a “wild” quote, like my page, or maybe wild flowers or you could just go wild with your design!

For my page, I started by creating a wildly colourful background using Distress Paints; the colours I used were Twisted Citron, Salvaged Patina and Tarnished Brass. When dry, I splattered the page with white acrylic paint and stamped an animal print design using black Archival Ink.

Next I fussy cut the jaguar’s head and the surrounding foliage, which took some time, from an Amazonia Stamperia paper pad. I arranged the fussy cut foliage onto the page, layering various die cut leaves, from Sizzix Thinlits sets by Tim Holtz, to build up the foliage and give more of a 3D effect. Then I layered the jaguar’s’ head over the top using double-sided foam tape. To finish, I added the “Take a walk on the wild side” wording using foam letter stickers.

My page was inspired by an amazing visitor to our garden; I was so surprised by this cat’s markings that I did a little research and found out that this is a Bengal Cat. Bengal cats have a wild appearance due to their coats, which comes from their leopard cat ancestry; yes they are actually a breed of hybrid cat created by crossing an Asian leopard cat with domestic cats. A Bengal cat’s coat usually has a golden shimmer and a mixture of spots, rosettes, arrowhead markings, or marbling too.

I hope you’re inspired to take a walk on the wild side with me this month, and join our Wonderfully Wild challenge. I’m really looking forward to visiting you and seeing how wonderfully wild your art journal pages are!

Thank you so much for joining me and Happy Journaling! Hugs, Jo x

Cosmos Birthday Cards

Today I’m over at Country View Challenges sharing more birthday cards for this month’s Birthday Card for a Man challenge; this time I created them using some beautiful Cosmos papers by Stamperia.

These cards were very simple to make, I cut out the picture panels of the wolf, deer and frog from a piece of 12×12 Cosmos design paper from a Stamperia paper pad. Then I mounted them onto some 6×6″ blank cards, which I had covered in a complimentary backing paper. To finish, I added some toppers which had happy birthday sentiments on them.

I hope you are inspired to join our challenge over at Country View Challenges too, if you do, you’ll have a chance to win a £20 voucher to use on the Country View Crafts.

These Stamperia papers are so beautiful, here are the individual cards …

This howling wolf is my hubby’s favourite.

Then we have the elegant deer.

Finally the fun frog, but don’t tell Chris from Pearshapedcrafting about this one as I seem to remember she doesn’t like frogs that much (smile!).

Stay safe and well!

Thanks so much for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Challenges

As well as Country View Challenges, I’m pleased to be joining the following challenges:

The Four Seasons Challenge and their Spring Season March 2023 Challenge with my frog card as their is a cute frog on their spring photo inspiration this month.

Time Machine

Today I’m over at Country View Challenges sharing my second art journal page for this month’s Time challenge.

For my Time Machine page, I started by covering the background with some design papers; the border on the left-hand side and clock panel on the right were from a Voyages Fantastique Paper Pad by Stamperia. The clock panel was ripped and then edged, like all the paper pieces, using Ground Espresso Distress Ink. I fussy cut the “Time Machine” image and clocks from the same Stamperia Pad and used some leftover Pocket Card pieces by Tim Holtz for the numbers and background ledger. They were arranged onto the page with a tag which I created using a Tag Collection Sizzix Framelits set by Tim Holtz. The tag was coloured using Ground Espresso, Tea Dye and Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink; I did this by applying the ink to an acrylic block, spritzing with water and then pressing the block onto the tag. I added a gold brad to the tag and some gold highlights using a gel pen and to finish, I applied some Ranger Glossy Accents around the brad and to the clogs and edges of the clock faces.

I hope you are inspired to join our Time challenge over at Country View Challenges too, if you do, you’ll have a chance to win a £20 voucher to use on the Country View Crafts.

Here are the papers that I collaged together to create this page. I hope you will join us too, it would be lovely to see you there (smile!).

Stay safe and well and thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Leaves begin to fall

It’s a new month which means we have a new challenge at Country View Challenges for September which is Leaves Begin to Fall.

Please ensure that leaves are the main focus of your creation (no token leaf please) when you join this challenge which is being hosted this month by the lovely Jane.

I was inspired by happy memories of our travels to New England to see the Fall colours and used lots of Tim Holtz products to create this art journal page.

I started by covering the background of the page with torn pieces of three different designed Worn Wallpaper Scraps by Tim Holtz using Liquitex matt gel medium. Then I die cut the autumn leaves and letters from some linen textured cardstock using Skeleton Leaves and Alphanumeric Bold thinlits sets by Tim Holtz. They were coloured using Fossilized Amber, Crackling Campfire, Peeled Paint, Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso Distress Inks and then arranged onto the page using matte gel medium. To finish, I added the New England Trail image which was a Layers Card by Tim Holtz.

For more inspiration please see the amazing creations from my fellow Design Team members over at Country View Challenges. I hope you are inspired to join our Leaves Begin to Fall challenge too, if you do, you’ll have a chance to win a £20 voucher to use on the Country View Crafts (grin!).

We have visited New England a number of times over the years to see the spectacular Fall colours; this photo was taken in the White Mountain National Forest.

This was taken on one of the walking trails in Maine.

Hoping that you are all staying safe and well!

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

For the sake of brevity I’m no longer listing the individual items that I used to create my page, however I’m more than happy to let you know which particular product was used if you contact me via comments below or using the following contact me link. You can also check out Country View Crafts as they sell many of the Tim Holtz products I used too.
