Ecclesia cathedralis Eliensis in Anglia Orientali visitatur. Abbatia Eliensi anno 672 condita, reliquiae sanctae Etheldredae abbatissae ibi anno 695 translatae sunt. Constructio novae ecclesiae abbatialis anno 1083 ab abbate Simeone coepta est. Qua non iam perfecta dioecesis Eliensis anno 1109 creata est, primo episcopo Herveo Britone. Ecclesia ergo iam incepta, quae ab hoc anno cathedralis fit, medio saeculo XIV perfecta est.

Aevo recentiori restitutionem ecclesiae Georgius Gilbertus Scott inter annos 1847 et 1878 curavit.
