Appraisal Report included with your purchase. Here we have a superb natural earth mined ruby and sparkly diamond ring circa 1970. This exceptional vivid red ruby ring is a size 5 1/4 US. In total it weighs approximately 5.5 grams. The ruby and diamond set face of the ring measures 9/16" long down the finger with a rise of 5/16" off the hand (15mm, 8mm). It is in lovely condition and is ready to gift or to wear. The fine gem quality ruby in this ring is a gorgeous color being a vivid red and very fluorescent. This stunning pear cut ruby measures approximately 7.4mm x 5.1mm x 3.1mm and weighs 1 carat as estimated in the setting. There are twenty channel set round brilliant cut diamonds F/G in color and VS/SI in clarity. The total diamond weight here is 0.43 carats. In total there is 1.43 carats of precious stones set in this stunning ruby engagement ring. Professional testing concludes solid 14K yellow gold. Unfortunately, in the last two decades many rubies seen in modern jewelry and rubies set as replacements in vintage and antique jewelry have had the color induced by high temperature heating in chemicals such as beryllium. This is called diffusion treatment and includes surface diffusion, bulk diffusion, lattice diffusion and deep diffusion. There are also sapphires treated heavily with beryllium treatment to imitate rubies. In recent years rubies have been clarity enhanced by filling any fissures or cracks with molten lead glass, sometimes the glass is colored as well, with time the filler falls out or goes cloudy ruining the stone. Polymer resins can be used in a similar way. Oftentimes this clarity enhancement may appear on certificates as the note(s) "residues" or "minor residues" or perhaps "foreign substance". Colored coatings can be applied to the back of a ruby. These treatments are unacceptable and such treated stones are of very low value. We do not sell rubies with these treatments.
