Neat C1850s Victorian Gold Memorial Hair and Photograph Pin Brooch - Etsy | Victorian gold, Brooch, Gold frame

Presented is a neat antique Victorian low karat gold memorial pin or brooch. This is an American piece, dating to circa 1845-1865. The pin is oval in form, with finely done hair work decoration on one side, along with tiny seed pearls and gold wire. The other side has an old photograph of two girls in prominent hats. The oval center portion with the hair/photograph rotates in place when the pin back is opened, so it can be worn with either side displayed. The gold frame is ornate and nicely hand engraved. The pin has an old C style clasp. This piece is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 6-8 karat gold. It is difficult to test exactly, as this is a non-standard karat of gold. This piece is in great overall condition. The clasp functions well and closes securely. The glass, photo, and hair work are all in great shape. The gold frame has a couple of dings here and there, and an old solder repair at about the 5:30 o' clock position, but nothing easy to notice. This pin measures about 2 3/4 inches long by 2 1/4 inches wide. The pin weighs 38.2 grams. -jm
