This has to be applied and buffed in small sections at a time, otherwise you miss the window of opportunity to buff it before it becomes too dry. This gives it a waxy type sheen and the coverage I am after. For a vase this size each coat takes me about 7 minutes, so roughly 21 minutes total (mugs take longer because of the handle). I’ve tried applying terra sig several ways, including not buffing between coats to save time and my arms/hands, but buffing each little section at a time does make a difference for me in the final outcome. 😍🖤 This is only one step in the entire process. My work is hand built using white earthenware clay. After the clay dries, it is sanded, and hand burnished to a shiny surface with a smooth stone. Several layers of a fine clay slip, terra sigillata, are applied and polished again with a soft cloth. The work is then bisque fired to 1830°F. After cooling, it is broken into several shard pieces.
