At this relatively early stage of the outbreak in New York City, few people we wearing masks still—probably fewer than 1 in 100 people—but the subway often seemed a little emptier already.

Strangely, this has gone (and left and gone back!) to 15 on Explore! Thank you. Rush hour on the Yamanote line in Shinjuku Station, Tokyo. By all accounts it is the world's busiest train station. The irony of Shinjuku station is that by being the ultimate place for people to pass through, to leave, to get away from; it becomes a place to visit in its own right. A friend of mine named Peter once told me he plays a game during his morning commute into Tokyo by train. He looks at the other people on the train and tries to decide if they are "Up" and on their way to work, or "Still Up" from the night before and on their way home. Some times it's pretty easy to tell. ;)
