| Abstract: | Wenn Menschen nach Neuorientierung suchen, werden sie oft motiviert durch die Begeisterung von etwas, das sich gänzlich vom alltäglich Erfahrenen unterscheidet. Exotische Vorstellungen von Indien oder hinduistischer Spiritualität wirkten prägend auf Form und Inhalte neuer Lebenskonzepte und die Idee des „Neuen Menschen“. Die Autorin analysiert die Rezeption hinduistischer Religiosität und einiger Elemente indischer Kultur in Deutschland als Antwort auf religiös-spirituelle Defiziterfahrungen und gesellschaftliche Veränderungen am Ende des 19. und im 20. Jahrhundert. Die Leitthemen Reinkarnation, Vegetarismus, Körperverständnis, Gemeinschaft und Yoga strukturieren den Blick auf die Phasen der Rezeption. |

| | When people are looking for a new orientation, they are often motivated by the excitement of something that is completely different from everyday experience. Exotic ideas of India or Hindu spirituality had a formative effect on the shape and content of new concepts of life and the idea of the "new man". The author analyses the reception of Hindu religiosity and some elements of Indian culture in Germany as a response to religious-spiritual experiences of deficiency and social changes at the end of the 19th and in the 20th century. The guiding themes of reincarnation, vegetarianism, understanding of the body, community and yoga structure the view of the phases of reception. |
