| Abstract: | [Dt.:] Die virtuelle Ausstellung „Ausgezeichnet: UNESCO Memory of the World. Handschriften des frühen Mittelalters für das Bistum Bamberg“ präsentiert einzelne Werke aus der Ausstellung gleichen Namens, die vom 7. Mai bis 28. Juli 2018 in der Staatsbibliothek Bamberg zu sehen war. In den Jahren 2003 und 2013 nahm die UNESCO drei der bedeutendsten mittelalterlichen Handschriften der Staatsbibliothek Bamberg in das "Memory of the World Programme" auf: die Bamberger Apokalypse und den Kommentar zum Hohelied, beide auf der Klosterinsel Reichenau im Bodensee entstanden, und das Lorscher Arzneibuch aus der Zeit Karls des Großen. Es dokumentiert, wie die antike Medizin im christlichen Mittelalter fortlebte. Als Heinrich II. im Jahr 1007 das Bistum Bamberg gründete, bat er Klöster in ganz Europa, ihm Bücher für die Kirchen und die Domschule zu überlassen. So gelangten Codices aus allen berühmten Skriptorien in Deutschland, Italien, Frankreich und Belgien nach Bamberg. Heute bewahrt die Staatsbibliothek noch 165 Handschriften, die vor dem Tod Kaiser Heinrichs im Jahr 1024 entstanden sind - ein unvergleichlicher Schatz von einzigartigen Codices. Einige der 2018 ausgestellten Handschriften, besonders die drei oben genannten, werden in der Datenbank ausführlicher präsentiert und besprochen und ihre Werkgeschichte erläutert. - [Engl.:] The virtual exhibition "Distinguished: UNESCO Memory of the World. Manuscripts of the Early Middle Ages for the Diocese of Bamberg" presents individual works from the exhibition of the same name, which was on display at the Bamberg State Library from 7 May to 28 July 2018. In 2003 and 2013, UNESCO included three of the most important medieval manuscripts from the Bamberg State Library in the "Memory of the World Programme": the Bamberg Apocalypse and the Commentary on the Song of Songs, both produced on the monastery island of Reichenau in Lake Constance, and the Lorsch Pharmacopoeia from the time of Charlemagne. It documents how ancient medicine lived on in the Christian Middle Ages. When Henry II founded the bishopric of Bamberg in 1007, he asked monasteries all over Europe to give him books for the churches and the cathedral school. In this way, codices from all the famous scriptoria in Germany, Italy, France and Belgium came to Bamberg. Today, the State Library still preserves 165 manuscripts that were created before the death of Emperor Henry in 1024 - an incomparable treasure of unique codices. Some of the manuscripts exhibited in 2018, especially the three mentioned above, are presented and discussed in more detail in the database and their work history is explained. |
