Abstract:	This text examines the changing shape of contemporary civic activism. It investigates what kind of new civic activism is emerging around the world and assesses how far this is really different from more established forms of civil society activity. The work also analyzes the impact of recent civic activism, in particular mass protest, offering a set of variables to help explain cases of success and failure. Finally, the author examines how far international support for civil society has kept pace with the emerging forms of civic activism
