Abstract:	[Dt.:] Die gemeinnützige Nichtregierungsorganisation Urban Health Resource Centre (UHRC) beschäftigt sich mit Hygiene- und Gesundheitsproblemen der Menschen in indischen Slumgebieten. Sie entwickelte sich 2005 aus dem Environmental Health Project (EHP) India und arbeitet eng mit Regierungsinstitutionen, lokalen Körperschaften und anderen NGOs zusammen, um die gesundheitliche Situation der Menschen zu verbessern. Ihr Ziel ist es u.a. Gesundheitsprogramme zu entwickeln, die von der Lokalregierung oder nichtstaatlichen Initiativen so übernommen werden können und den Zugang zu Hygiene- und Gesundheitseinrichtungen für Slumbewohner verbessern. Die Webseite bietet ausführliche Informationen zu den Projekten und Partnern der Organisation, mit zahlreichen Hintergrundinformationen zum Thema Gesundheit in Form von Vorträgen und Artikeln. Außerdem besteht die Möglichkeit sich für einen Newsletter einzuschreiben. - [Engl.:] Urban Health Resource Centre (UHRC) is a non-profit organization which addresses the health concerns of the poor, living in underserved slum settlements in India. UHRC has been institutionalized in November 2005 from the Environmental Health Project (EHP) India, a USAID supported project, initiated in March 2002. It provides technical support on urban health to the Government of India, state governments, urban local bodies and NGOs. It works closely with governments, academic and research organizations, professional associations and other stakeholders for enhanced attention and resources for improving health of the urban poor. Main objectives are to develop innovative urban health programmes in cities which can be adapted by the government and non-government agencies, to strengthen Urban Health programming approaches and capacities, to increase the availability of urban poor specific health information and programme experiences among various stakeholders through research, documentation and dissemination, to advocate enhanced attention onurban health, targeted policies and increased allocation of resources for slum dwellers and to demonstrate and advocate for empowerment of slum communities, especially women as a means to achieve and sustain improvements in health care.
