AW20 PREVIEW So here we are. The second half of a most extraordinary year. In September 2019 when we first put pencil to paper to design this collection, something told me that stoicism would be the order of the day, the British spirit of resilience and fortitude would have to gather up its skirts and petticoats and confront adversity head on. For many people, fashion and clothes are a way to express their personality, showcase their creativity, and add some fun and color to their lives. But what you might not realize is that what you wear can seriously affect your image - especially as you get older.

In Sarah Burton's exploration of the feminine silhouette for Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 2013, the body has been transformed by the extraneous supra-structures of the crinoline and corset. Playing with transparency and concealment, Burton has carved out a wasp-waisted, hyper-feminine look, reminiscent of the crinoline craze in the mid-19th century and Dior's New Look in the mid-20th century.
