On the global scale, agricultural crop yields have decreased or plateaued over the last several decades. A new paper from Klock et al introduces a new framework to determine if crops can achieve higher yield potentials at specific sites by calculating an Ecosystem Fit index. This study demonstrates that total crop productivity and Ecosystem Fit create a useful index for local land managers to assess growth and yield potentials across diverse edaphic landscapes and for decision-making with changing climates.
